A kilometer away, in a sunken area of the desert, dozens of colossal ancient treants were locked in battle with a relentless swarm of undead creatures. The undead surged over the surrounding dunes, assaulting the treants in waves, undeterred by death. The scene resembled the bugs swarming humanity in Starship Troopers, creating a spectacularly intense visual.
However, the ancient treants were not mere humans from a film. Standing thirty meters tall and possessing king-level power, they were like invincible giants compared to the undead. No matter how many undead attacked, the treants easily cut them down. The battlefield was littered with countless bones, desiccated corpses, ghouls, and even the remains of gargoyles.
Gargoyles, being the aerial units of the undead, boasted formidable defenses and vampire-like speed. Yet, against the ancient treants, they were outmatched. Treants skewered them with wooden spears, sending their stone bodies plummeting to the sand below, where they shattered upon impact—an inherent trait of gargoyles, whose bodies turned to stone upon death.
"Teresa, they're surrounded by evil undead! We must help them!" Amy urged.
"Right away, Amy!" the unicorn responded, galloping towards the fray.
As they reached the battlefield, Teresa's silver horn unleashed a barrage of violet lightning. Instantly, the entire area was engulfed in a lightning field. Thunder cracked, and every undead creature was reduced to charred remains. Thousands of undead were obliterated in an instant, leaving the treants bewildered.
The treants then focused on the sky, spotting the unicorn and the elf, Amy, on its back. They readied their wooden spears, bristling with hostility.
"Hello, I'm Amy from Kyatti City…" Amy began.
"Elves, leave this place! This is our territory!" one treant bellowed in a deep, resonant voice.
Amy was stunned. She sensed intense hostility from these treants. If she approached any further or refused to leave, they would surely attack her—a notion she found unbelievable. She was a nature elf, after all, and treants were the guardians of nature elves. This was an unbreakable truth.
"My friends, what's wrong? I'm a nature elf, your closest ally. Why are you treating me as an enemy?" Amy pleaded.
The treant did not answer but repeated its warning. The other treants, brandishing their spears, prepared for combat. Left with no choice, Amy turned her unicorn away. Despite her capability to defeat the treants, she would never attack them. Elves could never harm treants.
"Teresa, what has happened to them? It's as if they've forgotten our ancient alliance," Amy said, deeply troubled.
"I don't know," Teresa replied, shaking her head. "But we must investigate this. Compared to this, the elven spring and Charles the dragon are of lesser importance."
"Indeed," Amy agreed, still in disbelief that treants would consider her, a nature elf, an enemy. This would be hard for even the Elven Queen to believe.
As they neared the Golden Oasis, Teresa added, "Those ancient treants might be connected to the oasis. Let's speed up."
"We must uncover the truth behind this!" Amy urged, spurring Teresa on.
After Amy and Teresa left, the treants on the battlefield began to clean up.
"That elf was annoying, killing all our monsters and costing us valuable experience. Attracting those undead here wasn't easy," one treant grumbled.
"It's my first time having my prey stolen," another agreed.
"She headed towards our domain. We need to report this to the lord immediately," a third treant said.
"I've already informed the lord," the first replied.
"Good. Should we return to the domain?" another asked.
"No need. The lord has summoned the Eternal Treant Guards back and added the peak holy-ranked zombie dragon king. That elf won't cause trouble," reassured one of the treants.
"Then let's clean up and move out quickly. We need to level up and help our lord conquer this world!" another treant declared.
"Praise the lord!" they cheered in unison, their enthusiasm evident.
These treants were different from the native ones. Their fervor for war and conquest was unprecedented, a sentiment not shared by the local treants, who lacked such strong martial desires.
At the Golden Oasis, Haotian addressed the zombie dragon king. "There's an elf heading this way. Keep an eye on her. If she causes any trouble, don't hesitate to act."
"Yes, master!" Walis, the zombie dragon king, responded respectfully, taking to the skies and circling the oasis protectively.
Haotian, meanwhile, headed to the Dragon's Grave to inter the dark dragon Charles' body.
Interred: Dark Dragon
Name: Wilcotis Charles Victor…
Former Rank: High Holy Rank
Lifespan: 1,359 years
Date of Death: Half an hour ago, slain by the zombie dragon king Walis under Lord Haotian's command
Shortly after, Haotian summoned three undead dragons—a bone dragon, a corpse dragon, and an almost transparent nether dragon. Trading one for three, he had made an excellent bargain.
