StarDuster - Glory of the Umbral Avenger

My Father always told me to stand tall, this is my opportunity to do just that. [ This novel has been discontinued, a redux version of this series is currently in production. ] A glorious reign over the realm only to be hunted, a glorious return only to be haunted. Avery Hall had a fair share of experience when it came to the many layers of humanity. With the death of our real world in the future, everyone gets digitized and becomes... well, Immortal. To a degree. But how to do you spend immortality? Video Games... of course, with everything being digital... and with Hyper Advanced A.I... it's possible to create games that simulate what reality used to be like. Our story takes place in Starduster MMO, a fantasy based MMO game where the game's story is run mainly by player choice, with any choice being an important factor into anything. Our main point of view is Avery Hall, who specializes in the Sniper Class, a long range damage class that uses a Rifle. He is quite efficient at making use of all he has available, and is kind of a jerk. Avery also has been preventing the Progress of the game by holding on to a Key Artifact, other players find out about this and after a while decide they don't want him around anymore. While normally death lowers levels... his reputation is too low within the game and he gets banned, luckily he has a second account, as most V.I.P. users in the world do... Avery, swears to return the status quo, but maybe he'll be good this time... hopefully, habits take a long time to stop. So we join Avery's journey to get back to the top, just make sure he doesn't forget to properly transfer accounts.

Sun, Moon.

My head hurts.

I truly have never felt more pain in my body, this is actually torture. Not even before I was digitized did I feel such pain, and to think... it would be the pain of my own choices.

Let me explain, we have been testing magic at a very fast speed. Many, many, many different combinations... and so far we haven't struck gold yet. But we are getting close, and here is the reason why... so, we mixed explosion magic mana with blood magic mana. Unfortunately, it backfired. The Mana required to pull off that spell was beyond what we could produce and control, and so we had to let it fizzle. Fizzling a spell is basically forcing it out of existence, it requires a huge amount of mental strain to accomplish but it's viable... the problem is, instead of Fizzling upon our attempt to fizzle it... it instead activated a half assed version of the spell.

Guess who caught the brunt of the blow on that one, go on... guess.

To say I'm in pain is to undermine the meaning of pain, this was more primal and unearthly to the point were I've reached perfect harmony with my own body in the intervals where it doesn't hurt. Thinking these complex monologues helps me with the pain, so I''ll continue describing it in agonizing detail in order to starve off away some of that pain. Lets put two and two together, blood and explosion magic... what sort of effect would that have on somebody? If you guessed my blood started detonating like it was nitroglycerin then you'd be correct, of course though my pain can't just be ended by death! That would be too easy! No, I have to be kept alive by the fucking training hall's health regen effects and Melody!

Meanwhile, everyone around me is panicking as my body twists and converges in agony, my eyes pop out every once in a while only to slide back in later, and Melody is fucking pumping away healing magic at me. They are worried, I can tell. But dammit, I won't subside to pain. It's going to take a little more then my blood exploding constantly for... what, two minutes now? Yeah, it's going to take a lot more than that to get me to give up on this theory. If I can find any way to speed up the process of becoming whole then it wouldn't be a yes or no question, It would be a guarantee.

I don't know why the spell took so much fucking Mana to produce, nor why it took such a mental strain to create... I mean, I guess it's a little more difficult than mixing magic circles... this is mixing pure mana, everyone knows that you don't mix mana. I'll prove them wrong, first... let's deal with our current predicament... I know I can think of a way out, but what... If it's the mana causing the explosive blood, that means the mana is inside my body... so... maybe I could move it?

That would be ridiculously hard alone, but here... I'm not. I just need a little boost from everyone. I can't speak, it hurts too much... so I message everyone to pump me full of mana. This plan will either work, make it hurt worse, or something else entirely... it's StarDuster after all, what else would I expect. I wouldn't bat an eye if I puked out a big titty blood demon girl. Finally however, the Mana starts flowing into me... pulsating within my veins along with my exploding blood, using alchemy with what little power I have... I begin moving around the pure mana within me now to search for the source of the failed spell.

I push it through all of my veins, and eventually it leads to my heart. Inside is a huge crystal of varying origins, I can tell... it pushes against my mana, and it seems that this crystal is the source of my suffering. If I could, I would tell it to fuck off... but that's not important. Right now, I want to see if I can push it out. While it's too big to be pushed along my veins, I'll do my best to break it apart within me... then I can work from there.

The Mana flowing into me doesn't stop, and neither does my core stop producing fresh mana to combat this threat... wait, my core... I've got an idea. But for now, I'm currently breaking apart the mana crystal bit by bit... I'm doing this by slamming the pure mana bulb I have tracing inside me against the damn thing, luckily it's working... and the explosive blood calms down just a little bit, now it hurts at about the pain of being inside that destructible all those years back.

Now then, these shards need to get out of me. It doesn't reject the mana as hard as before, and so I'm able to properly push it throughout my veins. Now, I'm going to see if I can lead it to my Mana Core... if anything can get rid of this impurity in my body, it's going to be that. My body, while hunched down into the corner, starts dripping blood from my ears, eyes, mouth, nose, fingernails... everywhere it possibly can, I try my best to get myself sitting upright against a wall... all the while pushing this damn things through my veins. It's like a worse kidney stone, worse in every way...

Eventually though, I manage to get one crystal shard into my core through my veins. I can immediately tell my body hurts less, it's not as I expected but still a little better... and so, I think it's the strategy. Push all the crystals to my core. Strenuously, one by one I push them through... each taking longer then the other, and more than that... it already took about 5 minutes for my first crystal shard. Now this is experimenting! Any Mad Scientist worth their salt would end up like this! Barely making it out alive after a failed experiment, oh jeez... anyone would kill for this kind of struggle for life, it's the equivalent of trying Nicotine for me! Maybe I'm exaggerating, but I don't care!

... What... the fuck did I just say?

Am I going crazy? Well, that doesn't matter... I'm almost done, these damn crystals... tearing up my veins... maybe I should be a bit more careful but, this is taking too long in the first place. Only a little bit more to go... and then I'm done. Just one more crystal. Come on... and... there we go!

Mission complete, baby!

Now, I... well... I just need some rest.

Not like a nap or anything, but I just want to lay here for a bit... I still can't talk, but I can message them I'm ok now and just recovering.

No... fucking... way...

holy shit... I... did it?

So... is that the cost of making a new type of magic?

If only there was an easier way.
