StarDuster - Glory of the Umbral Avenger

My Father always told me to stand tall, this is my opportunity to do just that. [ This novel has been discontinued, a redux version of this series is currently in production. ] A glorious reign over the realm only to be hunted, a glorious return only to be haunted. Avery Hall had a fair share of experience when it came to the many layers of humanity. With the death of our real world in the future, everyone gets digitized and becomes... well, Immortal. To a degree. But how to do you spend immortality? Video Games... of course, with everything being digital... and with Hyper Advanced A.I... it's possible to create games that simulate what reality used to be like. Our story takes place in Starduster MMO, a fantasy based MMO game where the game's story is run mainly by player choice, with any choice being an important factor into anything. Our main point of view is Avery Hall, who specializes in the Sniper Class, a long range damage class that uses a Rifle. He is quite efficient at making use of all he has available, and is kind of a jerk. Avery also has been preventing the Progress of the game by holding on to a Key Artifact, other players find out about this and after a while decide they don't want him around anymore. While normally death lowers levels... his reputation is too low within the game and he gets banned, luckily he has a second account, as most V.I.P. users in the world do... Avery, swears to return the status quo, but maybe he'll be good this time... hopefully, habits take a long time to stop. So we join Avery's journey to get back to the top, just make sure he doesn't forget to properly transfer accounts.

Nidus

In a world where theoretically anything was possible, how far would people drive to limit themselves?

Most people would stop at their morals, some would go further, some would drive themselves mad attempting to find the end.

...

Humans are very fragile minded, which makes sense... after all we are very lucky to even have consciousness in the first place, it would take much longer to perfect it... but I'm rambling. Humans don't like infinite.

An endlessly deep pit makes stomachs churn, and the thought of being lost forever into the endless void of space keeps people up at night. There are some that would take the plunge though, and those people are usually insane.

Nidus was a mutualist. A scrapped together mass of flesh, mushroom, and carbon. Despite his intelligence compared to the others nearby him, Nidus struggled with motor control... and self control.

Preservation wasn't on his mind, rather he cursed his existence in vane. When the ' clean ones ' came, Nidus begged and pleaded to die. They didn't grant such pleasure, instead they added to its suffering. Electricity, Flame, Injections of all sort... it was a terrible fate.

The ones nearby fell to the clean ones and submitted underfoot quickly, to that they were rewarded nicely... Nidus proved to be the only one resisting the temptation of sovereignty.

Words echoed in it's mind, the clean ones nearly forced it down it's spine. ' Monarch ' and ' Crimtane ' they called it .. Nidus didn't know what those referred to, but it certainty knew something else... it was Nidus, nothing more.

How long could he withstand such torture.

...

The time flew by for Nidus... or maybe it stood still, bit the clean ones were in a stir. It freighted the nearby as Nidus calmly enjoyed no such emotion, It was a fresh change of pace... from scorn to utter ignorance.

The clean ones rushed to the side of another one of their kin, red fronds of muck clacked against the derived skull, the being was filled with distraught and opened the glass containing us. The nearby ones were simply corralled into a large object, Nidus was chained.

The Large object began motion, and with motion came the scent of blood. Mutualists love the taste of flesh, especially those of the clean ones... it was rare however, to feast on one of their kind... and as such the ones nearby grew rowdy. Nidus sat in silence, it never enjoyed the pleasure of eating a Clean one... it rarely ate at all.

Could this be a one time luxury? Grand.

After a short while, the large object opened up and the Mutualists fell a great distance, some splattering against the corpse filled field, and others immediately bound to taste flesh.

Nidus hid himself, he felt a presence unlike any other... and he felt afraid.

That would be the right desicion.
