StarDuster - Glory of the Umbral Avenger

My Father always told me to stand tall, this is my opportunity to do just that. [ This novel has been discontinued, a redux version of this series is currently in production. ] A glorious reign over the realm only to be hunted, a glorious return only to be haunted. Avery Hall had a fair share of experience when it came to the many layers of humanity. With the death of our real world in the future, everyone gets digitized and becomes... well, Immortal. To a degree. But how to do you spend immortality? Video Games... of course, with everything being digital... and with Hyper Advanced A.I... it's possible to create games that simulate what reality used to be like. Our story takes place in Starduster MMO, a fantasy based MMO game where the game's story is run mainly by player choice, with any choice being an important factor into anything. Our main point of view is Avery Hall, who specializes in the Sniper Class, a long range damage class that uses a Rifle. He is quite efficient at making use of all he has available, and is kind of a jerk. Avery also has been preventing the Progress of the game by holding on to a Key Artifact, other players find out about this and after a while decide they don't want him around anymore. While normally death lowers levels... his reputation is too low within the game and he gets banned, luckily he has a second account, as most V.I.P. users in the world do... Avery, swears to return the status quo, but maybe he'll be good this time... hopefully, habits take a long time to stop. So we join Avery's journey to get back to the top, just make sure he doesn't forget to properly transfer accounts.

He is so cute in slumber...

Ah, to be of Crimtane... one being like Crimtane show few signs of sanity, ah... that flesh that binds the soul to data, what life!

The Machine's cogs turn further, the mind too, even in sleep he resolves his bitter mind, contaminated by Crimtane... the dreams should be of nothing but nightmares and death, that lady who holds out her sour hand offers nothing but death.

To deal, is her goal. Any deal resounds in hell, in Umbra, oh... to what a fool, a deal was struck. Now Umbra bears his gaze upon the unwilling... should Umbra consume him.

The Flesh of Crimtane, one.

The Flesh of Crimson, one.

The Flesh of Cobalt, one.

Ah, out. I must retrieve myself, his eyes lay blind but bear true sight... the man who first connected to machine, the man who first ate of Crimtane, the man who first became protected by the world itself...

Ah, I forget. I must leave.

The council forbids my stay, the man forbids my existence, and worse... I forbid failure.

... ah, but I cannot help myself... I greed, a last peak of the Immortal Crusader...

...

| - " Hey... wake up. "

Hm? Who's there?

| - " Wake up sleepy head! "

Ugh... where am I...

| - " Hey... say something dumb, maybe that will wake him up. "

| - " Why me? "

| - " It works usually. "

| - " Fine... Hey, Cobalt... I don't think guns are cool. "

Oh... oh oh OH KISS M-

- " ASS! "

...

Son of a bitch... what the fuck was that... I heard voices....

Jotun - " Pff-! That sure fucking woke him up! "

Oh... it was ... them.

Huh, that was weird... what the hell happened to me... ugh... my head...

Went to Mordova's... gathered the gang... went to the ship... then...

Umbra, right. I gotta kick his ass. So... wooden walls painted white, metal outcroppings... pipes... tight cramp spaces, I am inside the ship aren't I?

And judging by the humming of the engines... we are flying.

And here I am, after jolting upright like a rocket shouting ' ASS '... I humiliated myself, damn... whatever Umbra did to me it certainly kicks like a mother fucker.

Jotun - " So you slept for three fucking days straight and only wake up when I say guns suck? Sounds about right, Cobalt. I don't know why you like them so much. "

Anise - " They are weapons from Earth, Jotun. It must hold some sort of special place in his heart... besides that, they are good at putting metal in opponents. "

Dice - " If I remember correctly, he said something about collecting guns in the past, but I don't remember it that well. "

Jotun - " So, Anise. See anything wrong with him? "

Anise - " Everything seems nominal. No toxins or anything either, his organs are in perfect shape. "

Jotun - " People don't just collapse for three days for no reason! There has to be something... jeez... Cobalt, got anything to say? "

- " I ... am going... "

Jotun - " Where? "

- " Back to bed. "

...

I am just going to rest my head for a moment, I don't need actual sleep obviously but I do need just a moment to think.

Umbra.

God dammit...

I guess I should catch you up.

So... when I got spat out of hell, I got a bunch of my old memories right?

According to those... Umbra was one of the 7 people who killed me, upon a large rocky cliff face... with dramatic rain and everything.

Umbra was... well, he was only 7 when he got digitized. I... sort of took him in as my own, not as a father-son kinda thing but more of a mentor thing.

I taught him basically everything.

Those seven people included... Hell Blade, Asura, Umbra, Ruby... and three others... I don't remember that far but... I do remember something else, after I was killed the first time... they ate my body.

Why?

I don't know.

But, I suspect is has something to do with this:

| Cobalt |

| ' Panzer Drake ' |

| Level 28 |

| Human |

| Battle Alchemist |

| Assimilation Rate: 40% |

Assimilation, commonly defined as the absorption and integration of people, ideas, or culture into a wider society or culture. I don't know what this rate is supposed to be, but I don't like it. Especially considering this hasn't appeared the millions of other times I've checked my status.

It's probably like energy, you can only see it in statuses if you know about it... like a secret.

Anyways, looks like I have a few messages to go through... mostly from Arch and his group.... I'll just go through them real quick...

| From Tungston |

" Hey, Cobalt, heard you were in a Coma. Hope you get well soon, anyways I have peered into the secrets of existence itself and mastered a new form of Alchemy that I myself have created. Unlike your crafting form and combat form, this type of alchemy is basically magic. Anyways I am keeping it to myself, if you want it you gotta give me a kiss, so... see ya soon! "

| Message sent to the Trash |

Alright, next.

| From Melody |

" Hey Cobalt, Arch said you forgot something at his base when you came over and he wanted me to message you about it. I don't know what it is though. "

Alright, next.

| From Arch ( Items Attached ) |

" Yo, Arch here. You beat me to my own house-! Whatever, you got what you needed it looks like, but I meant to give you a few other things. They are pretty cool! Check it out, I got your old music cassette tapes and player... this thing is tricked out, plenty of good songs on here too! I also picked up your blind fold thing... you always wear it so I thought you would want it back. Oh! Tungston said she had some new Alchemy techniques to share with you for a price, anyways I stole it. It should be in the dropbox for ya-! See ya later man-! "

Ha-! Arch, what a chad! Holy shit this guy is great, alright... deposit the items please system!

| Confirmed. |

| Crimson Cassette |

| Plays music. |

| Battle Lens 2 |

| A remnant of Origin. Displays an upgraded analysis on command. |

| Book of Solipsism |

| Grants the reader ( Basic: Alchemical Technique - Solum ) |

Looks like Tungston's gotten to the period in her life where she names everything in Latin words to make herself sound smarter... this looks like a technique similar to a Magic Swordsman or Paladin Technique called ' Body magic ' where they enhance themselves via mana.

This... might not be that bad, certainly not worth kissing Tungston... ick.

Alright, I guess I gotta get up sometime...
