Chapter 101

(Ugh. I hate writing on my phone. Hopefully I finally get my laptop fixed today. Over a week of typing by phone is killing me)

Aubrie sat in lotus position outside of the door while Obi-Wan paced back and forth wearing out the soles of his sandals.

"Master. Why do you seem so concerned?" Aubrie was very confused.

Although she knew that the Yautja were more militarian than the Jedi preferred and that they had subverted decisions made by the Republic several times but the group had no major issues.

It was not like they were constantly picking fights with others. In fact, they were perhaps the most lax.

Rumors had it that the Separatist Crisis even affected the Yautja but unlike the Republic, they didn't try to force their vassals to stay.

As long as they paid the required credits, thr Yautja honored their agreements and even remained as allies with most of them.

"The issue is the Yautja as a whole, not their presence here. They had fought hard for independence from Republic laws and have assisted many of the Separatists as well as quite a few Republic planets in the past.

What if they are not just here to act as guards? What if they are lobbying?"

Aubrie understood what his big worry was. The 3 largest commerce guilds that Jial had close contact with for over a hundred years were backing the various Separatists. He also supported many of those planets as well.

Jial had the most powerful military in the entire Galaxy and was a charismatic leader as well.

He could easily sway many planets to defect if he wanted to. Especially if he got such a staunch defended of the Republic to defect.

Obi-wan and Aubrie realized just how much Jial could affect the Republic if he leveraged his personal relationship with Padme.

"Master. You don't think they were the ones who planted the bomb? Let the senator think that the Republic couldn't protect her and have her lean on her old ally instead?"

Obi-Wan acknowledged that it was a possibility that he hadn't considered in his mind.

Both of the Jedi had created their own conspiracy theory in their minds that they were planning to report back to the Jedi Council, unaware of the simple truth.

They didn't give 2 shits about the upcoming war or all of the defections. They were simply helping an old friend and Anakin's lover.

But this misunderstanding on the Jedi's part would cause a much larger problem down the line.

While the Jedi were worrying over nothing, the inside of the loft had a much more relaxed atmosphere.

Anakin was 'guarding' Padme in the bedroom while the rest were sitting around the other parts of the apartment, taking turns to be on watch.

All was peaceful for several hours until it was finally as they had all feared. There was a 2nd assassination attempt.

While Anakin and Padme were laying in bed together, the sound of glass being cut could be heard. At least by someone with cybernetic Implants that increased their hearing.

David rushed up the stairs with his bolter in hand, startling the others but they were quick to react.

Everyone followed him up the stairs but they were a little slow.

By the time they got up there, Anakin was standing atop the bed with his lightsaber ignited and two snake-like creatures cut in half by his feet.

Everyone had arrived just in time to see David jump through the glass window, causing pieces to descend on the citizens below.

David had managed to see a droid and was in the process of pursuing it.

He jumped from speeder to speeder, startling the various drivers until he saw the droid appear next to a woman. She was about to board the vehicle so David acted quickly.

The world around him turned grey and everything seemed as if their speed until they were barely moving.

All except for David. He jumped from vehicle to vehicle, quickly closing the gap until he was only 5 meters away.

The young man aimed his bolter and aimed carefully. He fired 3 shots towards the woman and her vehicle. Each one hit their target.

Bolters were not just typical guns or slugthrowers. They were rather an ingenious combination between a heavy caliber bullet and missile.

The bullet was .75 mm at the smallest and designed to penetrate a target before detonating. Few survived a direct shot from them.

2 shots hit her vehicle in the front and rear. While one shot struck her beneath the knee.

When color returned to David's world, time resumed its normal pace. And then it all happened at once.

3 explosions occurred as the bolters detonated at the same time after they reached their targets.

The speeder lost its ability to hover and began hurtling toward the ground while the assassin had her leg blown off and sent into the wall next to her.

David jumped down his latest ride and landed next to the woman but reeled back in disgust

He was fine with the gore that used to be her legs. Both had been destroyed from the knee and below with the leg directly struck having part of her thigh destroyed.

Bones and blood covered the ground but they weren't the normal human white and red like she had first appeared.

The skin on the ground turned greenish-grey while the blood was blue.

The woman had also changed her appearance and resembled an alien that had saggy skin and greenish-grey skin.

"Nova," David said in amazement. He hadn't seen a Clawdite before so he was surprised

But while he was surprised, he was caught off guard.

One moment, the woman was barely clinging to life and the next, there was a dart in her neck.

David immediately turned around and raised his bolter to return fire but he only barely caught of glimpse of who had shot the dart as they were retreating.

But the armor was very familiar as a few of the Mandalorians still wore it.

'A Mando? This mission just got more fun,' David began to smile, glad that he got reassigned.

He heard how skilled normal Mandalorians were and wanted a chance to test himself against them.

David knelt down and put his hand on the Clawdite to check her pulse but all that did was confirm his suspicions.

She bad died and looked even more shriveled than before.

Caina and Obi-Wan landed behind him while David was pulled the dart out of her neck and was staring at it.

"You killed her?" Obi-Wan questioned with a tint of anger. "How are we supposed to know who hired her?"

"I didn't zero her. That was the work of whoever fired this dart. Thought she was a Solo but she had a partner," Davis turned around and showed them the dart in question

Obi-Wan looked between David and the dart before trying to take it. The larger teen pulled his hand back before he could grab it.

"What are you doing?" David ask as he tapped his bolter against his thigh

Obi-Wan had seen the damage the weapon could do so he didn't act impulsively. Instead, he attempted diplomacy as that was more toward his skillset.

"You're job is to protect Senator Amidala. Mine is to ensure safety on Coruscant. And to so that, I need to figure out who killed the assassin to silence them."

David didn't immediately pass it over but looked to Caina. When he saw the woman nod, he tossed the dart to Obi-Wan who nearly dropped it.

He looked at David in frustration. "Please don't throw poisonous darts next time."

"No promises, man."

Obi-Wan shook his head and jumped onto the nearest speeder. He had to get back to Aubrie an investigate the assassin's partner.

"You did scan that, right?" Caina asked

"Of course. Not fresh on these streets," Davis assured her while tapping on his neck. "Got it all in here."

"Good. Didn't feel like killing a Jedi today."
