"Ivan is here," Luka tells me over the phone. "He was attacked at the club by cartel last night when you were on your way to San Francisco."
So that's the story. Smart. That means I could have gotten away with throwing Ivan over the side of the balcony, though.
"Shit," I growl, glancing at Vanessa in the passenger's seat. "I am on my way."
Obviously Matvey is in the room with Luka, and thus begins the acting that we will be doing from here on out. I hate this so much. But Luka is on our side, and I have to trust my gut and Vanessa assuring me that that's the truth.
If it's Luka, Vanessa, and I against a clueless Matvey and a beaten Ivan who will wake up to find his greatest threat exactly where he doesn't want her—in his father's house—then we can do this. I know we can do this, because as strange as it sounds, I know I can trust the dream version of my dad, too.
