Part 19

Izuku had had enough. He walked toward the front gate of the mansion. He got Ben's address from Paige. He hadn't shown his face once at the lab. It had been another week past. Training with his friends then going to the lab. He'd decided to lay low on the Spider-Man work. Not wanting to draw attention to himself. He'd failed to come up with a proper idea without Ben. He needed Ben to help and he was sick of him having to go do all the work and Ben sitting back and doing Lord knows what.

He walked over to the black gate with a snarl. He saw the speaker and pressed the button before speaking. "Ben! Open up!" He yelled into it and the machine crackled. "Izuku, leave me" he said sounding broken. "Ben! I'm not playing any games. Open up now" he said. "No" was all that came through. Izuku looked at the black gate with his anger sky rocketing. He walked over to it and forced it open. He began to walk toward the mansion. Suddenly a ball with a screen moved by him. "Izuku what the hell!" Ben yelled on the screen. "I'm not playing any games Ben! We're gonna work on this project together" he said without looking at the screen.

So he didn't notice how Ben's condition looked. Ben seemed like he was coming down with something. Eyes with bags, skin pale, lips chapped and in a bathrobe. "Fine! Come on in" Ben said and the ball flew off.

Ben looked at himself and felt irritated. Before walking into his library and picked up a bottle of whiskey on his way there. "Damned kid" he said as he arrived in the library and sat down on the chair in the middle of the library and grabbed a glass cup and drank as he waited for Izuku.

Izuku walked over to the front door and it immediately unlocked. As he walked in, he saw balloons and confetti everywhere. A bunch of rotten and smelly food on a table and he had to cover his nose from the smell. Then his spidey sense went off as he slipped on something. He flipped backwards and landed crouched. He looked at what he slipped on and saw melted ice cream. "Ben..." He said as he started to fit the pieces together.

He began to walk around the mansion and finally found him in the library. Drinking straight from a bottle of whiskey. "Ben..." He said and pointed behind him. "Were you planning on having a party for us for finishing the Nanobots after the presentation?" Izuku asked with sad eyes. Ben looked straight at him. Confirming his answer.

Izuku sighed as all his anger disappeared. He stared at Ben and realised how broken he must have been from this. "That, was my best achievement Izuku, and it got swept aside like day old Noddles" Ben said as he placed the down empty bottle next to the chair. Izuku fully walked into the library and looked around. It was a cylindrical library. Going up in a spiral formation with books littered on the shelves everywhere you looked. And Ben's chair, smack in the middle of it all.

"Hey, you wanna know why I hated you when you first arrived at Nara labs?" Ben asked as he spun around in the chair. Izuku looked at him, his eyes filled with curiosity. He was now interested in what Ben had to say. "It's because you reminded me...of myself" he said as Izuku stepped forward and suddenly something shifted. The ground stared moving up to higher shelves and it was taking him and Ben will it. Then it stopped and Ben grabbed a photo book. He looked at the old photo of him as a child in a lab coat. He smiled solemnly at it.

"I had a dream Izuku, a dream to save the world. But, that dream got crushed when I got told I was quirkless" he said and Izuku felt a pang at his heart. Knowing the pain himself. He gripped his heart and looked at his feet as the memory flooded back. Hitting him like a tsunami. "So, I decided to help people in other ways. And I stumbled upon science. So I devoted myself to it. I worked hard, and here I am" he said and looked up at the light coming from the top. "But, that's not so bad" Izuku said and Ben snapped.

"Wrong!!" Ben yelled and threw the book at Izuku. Izuku caught it with ease and looked at the picture of Ben. "You see! Look at that! You have everything!" Ben yelled as he stared at Izuku with serious eyes. "What do you mean I have everything?" Izuku asked confused. "Like I said, I worked so hard, that I shut everyone out. That's why I have no friends, no family, no one to love, and no one that loves me back. And when I saw you, I thought you were heading down the same path. That you were gonna become an old man with no one. But, you quickly proved me wrong. Making friends, becoming a hero in training, dating Paige, and still working hard as a scientist. You have everything! And where does that leave me? A sad old man with no life!" He yelled and threw another book. The book landed on the floor and flipped open. Izuku saw two pictures, one of Ben and his mother, another or Ben and his father. "That's right, I knew you father. And he was a piece of shit" Ben said and heaved a breath. Izuku looked up at Ben with glossy eyes. "What do you mean?" Izuku asked.

"This was the second reason I disliked you, aside from the fact that I thought you were being foolish by planning to waste your life in a room the whole time doing nothing but working. Missing life and people flying right past you. The second reason I hated you, was because you reminded me of him. Me and your father worked on a project a few years back. To give quirks to the quirkless" Ben said and Izuku immediately knew which project they were talking about.

"We started out with thinking, trying to find out which animals ability to give. Then we decided on a spider. Then we tried it out. Nothing, then we employed All Mights help. Trying our best to work on it. But, it ultimately failed each time. But, your father kept us going. 'Do not worry my fellow scientists, it will work' he said. Trying to get us not to lose hope. And I believed in him! And he had that same stupid smile that you have!" Ben then threw another book. This time a bunch if papers flew out. They landed on the ground in front of Izuku and they were copies of the same pages he saw at the lab where this all started. Where he got bit by the spider and got his quirk.

"And then! Then, it finally worked. We were all so happy. I thought, I can finally get a quirk. I can leave this life of a scientist behind and become a hero. But, your father said 'No, this is for my son' I got so enraged that one night, I tried to steal the spiders. But, when I arrived at the lab, I found everything up in flames. I ran inside and saw your father flipping tables over and burning everything. It was a horrific sight. Everything I had worked toward, everything everyone had worked toward. Gone in one night. Everything was burned, and your father gone. Along with the spiders. I was so mad, I had been robbed by a Midoriya. And when I saw you, I immediately thought of your father. And I got so mad. I hated you, I thought you were gonna do the same thing your father did to me. So, I shut you out, I acted horrible towards you in the hopes that you'd leave me alone. But, you never did. Then, we got paired up to work on the Nanobots. And I got so infuriated. I thought, another Midoriya is gonna steal my work. But, you didn't. And I actually grew fond of the you. I considered you a friend. Then I reminded myself that I was falling into the same trap. That you were just like your father. That, you'd steal my things again" Ben said as he breathed heavy breathes of anger as he stared at Izuku.

Izuku stared down once more and thought.

Was dad really like that?

"But...I'm not like my father" Izuku spoke up. "How would I know that!?" Ben yelled. "I promise Ben, I won't rob you of anything!" Izuku yelled.

"Liar! All you Midoriya's are the same!!" Ben yelled and threw two more books at him. "My father go betrayed by your grandpa a long time ago as well. And he ended up losing his life!! So go tell your stories to someone else!! Because it seems being a bastard runs in your family!!" "Ben I'm not like them!" "In what way!! All I see is a stinken Midoriya in front of me. That's gonna rob me like all the others!!" Ben threw another book and it flipped open and showed a picture of Izuku's grandpa and what he assumed was Ben's father. He seemed Japanese and had Ben's features.

"Go lie to someone else!!" Ben then proceeded to throw more books at Izuku. Izuku didn't flinched though. He sat there and took all the hits. Until a book flew and hit him in the head and caused him to bleed. The blood dripped onto his cargo pants and grey shirt as it covered his eye and some hair. "Just leave, please. I don't feel like going to work" Ben said as he dropped to his knees and shook with anger and sadness.

"Ben... believe me when I say. I won't rob you, I promise I won't Ben. Please, just come back and work on the Nanobots" he said and moved toward Ben. His blood dripping onto all the pictures and papers on the floor.

"How would I know if your telling the truth?" Ben asked. "Look at me..." Izuku said and Ben looked at him with his pale skin and dark bags. "I won't steal from you Ben Tako" Izuku said with a smile. "Okay..." Ben said and stood. He looked at Izuku's bleeding face and suddenly felt guilty. "Now, let's clean this place up" Izuku said and his smile widened.

Ben smiled as best he could and nodded.

"Let's"
