CHAPTER VI

Rachael runs into a park a few blocks away. As a little girl, she would always come to the park whenever she got sad and her father would always come to get her.

He would bring flowers as a gift as he bathe her with compliments to brighten her mood.

But now, that is all a memory of the past. A memory she buried in a box but has now been opened.

Rachael walks until she sees an empty bench where she sits, "Why me?".

"A story is never good without a damsel," Samuel says as he appears before her teary eyes.

"Go away, leave me alone" she says, still agitated.

He sits beside her, "I am sincerely sorry about this Miss McQueen"

"Why me? Why my father? Why did my mother lie to me all these years?".

Samuel scratches his head, "I don't know Rachael.

Look, your mother loves you very much. Your parents hid their secrets from you because they wanted a better life for you, a peaceful life.

Our lives aren't peaceful Rachael, I'm just sorry destiny brought you into it" he says.

"Samuel, please tell me what is going on", Samuel pauses for a while, "Samuel" "Sure, I will. Just not here.

Come on, let's go to the club," he says as he gives her a handkerchief, "I can't let my favorite employee look like this".

Samuel and Rachael take a taxi to the club, the trip is fast and silent.

Bouncers greet them as they make their way into the club.

Samuel inhales deeply as he takes in the vanilla fragrance of the club.

Rachael notices shady looking individuals lurking in dark corners and they leave the place as Samuel's smiling face slowly fades away.

They get to the bar, "Get us something to eat" he orders the bartender, "Come on" he takes Rachael to a sofa and they sit.

"Why are there always weird looking people in the club?

I mean when I first came here with my friend it was the same" Rachael says.

"Vampires, they are running from daylight," Rachael pauses, "This again," she says.

Samuel's eyes flashes a blue glow briefly and Rachael jerks.

For a second, I saw them. Blue eyes.

"Are…are you…a vampire?", she stammers and Samuel chuckles, "No, I'm not but vampires are real. Very real,".

"Then, what are you?" "Miss McQueen,  let's not go off track," he says and she nods lightly.

Rachael's heart beats like it has it's own DJ, she is breathing hard but she tries to hide it. Not like it will do any good in front of him.

Vampires are real.

Ghost? Demons? Are they all real?

"Calm down, Miss McQueen. Your heart could burst any moment from now," Samuel says.

What? Does he mean that?

Rachael's thought exposes her fears to herself alone, so she thinks.

"It's a joke, your breathing is just…weird," he says.

A waiter brings a tray of food and serves them, "Thank you,".

They maintain silence for a while and Samuel starts to feel uncomfortable but he isn't the only one.

Rachael is scared but she has known the twins for a short while and Samuel has always been nice to her.

"How do you know my mom?" Rachael finally breaks the silence, "Finally," Samuel mumbles.

"What?"

"Through your father," "My father?" " Yes. He used to work for Gabriel"

"My father worked here, at the club?" "No, he didn't" Samuel chuckles, "Frank couldn't whip up a cocktail if his life depended on it. He did something else for my brother,".

"What did he do?" she asks, "He…" Samuel pauses, "He stole for us," " What? Are you calling my father a thief?".

"Well, no offence but he was," "How dare you?" , Rachael gets angry.

Her fear disappears, she would not have anyone slander her father's name. Not even a supernatural being.

"You may not like it Miss McQueen but that indeed was his job," "That doesn't make any sense," "His services weren't free of course.  He wanted something from Gabriel in return,".

"What did my father want so bad that he had to steal?" "What most mortals want, to live long and young.

Your father wanted immortality,".

Immortality?

Rachael's confusion only increases, "You are kidding, right?" "Not in the slightest, Miss McQueen"

"You expect me to believe that?" "You are going to believe a lot of things. Anything is possible".

Rachael doesn't know what to believe, her thoughts jump around like a kangaroo.

"He wanted Gabriel to turn him into a vampire," "Why?" "I don't know," "So you are not a vampire but Gabriel is?".

"Miss McQueen, we aren't vampires," "Then what are you two?" "We are worse. Way worse,".

"None of this makes any sense to me," Rachael drinks a glass of water, "I don't see the connection.

What does any of this has to do with my father's death?"

"The price for immortality was to steal a dagger, Nightmare".

Nightmare?

Rachael remembers seeing that name in the strange book she found in her office, the dagger.

"Your father wasn't supposed to accept the challenge but he did and he eventually gained my brother's trust.

Unfortunately, he got caught.

And you followed him but so did the target. They orchestrated the accident that killed your father five years ago," Samuel says.

Rachael's face becomes gloomy, "You and your mother may be in danger because of that.

They think Frank found Nightmare and one of you may have it,".

"Until I met you guys I didn't even know anything about this supernatural bullshit.

I can't even wrap my head around it".

"I know. Look, we aren't going to let anything happen to you" Samuel moves closer to Rachael.

"This is too much," she holds her head in her arms as the weight of Samuel's word causes a mild migraine.

"Here," he takes her hand and tilts her head upwards and their eyes meet.

Samuel's eyes begin to shine and Rachael's face shows a sign of relief as she feels better.

She stares into his beautiful blue eyes.

Blue eyes.

His hand is warm and soft, "I won't let anything happen to you," he says smoothly.

The glow In his eyes go dim but she still holds his gaze, she takes in his perfume and it drifts her mind into a whirlpool of lust.

He giggles as he draws closer to her, he stares down at her lips and licks his as the distance between their face shortens.

A wave of familiar scent enters Samuel's nostrils and he pauses just as Rachael closes her eyes in anticipation.

"Are we interrupting something?".
