CHAPTER 1-1 (PART 3/3): Classroom of the S-lite

POV: Kioytaka

Outgoing Girl: Hey guys, can you give me a second of attention? The prof's gone, and before we head to this entrance ceremony, I'm thinking this is the perfect time for us to get to know each other, right?

The strong voice of this girl captured everyone's attention, prompting us to turn our gazes toward the source of the sound to see a student walking towards the teacher's desk to address the class...

Introducing ourselves, then? Yes, I understand this is a positive step, especially if we are to spend the next three years together.

She was a tall teenager of my age, with turquoise-colored eyes. Her long, light green hair was styled with bangs that parted in the middle of her forehead and tied into a ponytail.

Her natural beauty undoubtedly captivated attention... It's curious to note the proportion of attractive young women here... Are all girls at this elite school endowed with such natural charm?

Beyond her appearance, she exuded an aura of a natural and extroverted leader, as if guiding others was innate for her, a skill she had already honed. She would likely become very popular among both boys and girls, and her demeanor, both sociable, spirited, and slightly tomboyish, only added to her appeal.

Mion: Alright, I'll kick things off if that's okay with you, and then we can go in order! Flashing a broad smile, she began. Hey everyone, super excited to see you all here, I'm Mion Sonozaki... Look, we're from a small town, so forget all that formal stuff, just call me Mion, especially since my twin sister is also around here, ahahaha!! Honestly, I was a bit reserved about this high school at first, but now that I'm here, I feel it's gonna be great, seems like there are a lot of interesting faces, hehehehe!! Oh, and just FYI, I'm the president of the Hinamizawa game club, we're already four, but since the other two are younger and not here, we have room for two more. Don't all rush at once, we'll pick our new members ourselves, and believe me, I'll be scouting for the best of the best. Her laughter echoed again. That's all from me, nice to meet you... Kei-chan, Rena, it's your turn, go ahead!

Surely, with such a personality, she has everything to become a standout figure in the high school... And... a game club? What exactly does she mean by that? Even if I don't grasp all the details of what she's proposing, I can affirm she piques curiosity.

It seems the entire class shares this impression, showing significant interest in her proposition.

Outgoing Boy: Hey Mion, what are you doing? Why did you take the floor in front of everyone? And why are you dragging us into this!! He sighed, grumbling as he approached Mion, who chuckled mockingly. Anyway, yeah, might as well get to know everyone, it'll be better for future relations!

Shy Girl: Then, a shy girl stepped forward somewhat embarrassedly, positioning herself next to Keiichi, to join Mion in front of the others. U-Um, well, uh, we would have had to introduce ourselves sooner or later, so might as well do it now...

Two voices resonated almost simultaneously, belonging presumably to the two people she had just called out, "Kei-chan" and "Rena." Both stood up to join her where Mion was standing.

The boy had short brown hair and violet eyes, with a rather athletic build, while the girl sported an asymmetrical short orange bob, with longer strands at the front and a tousled fringe, complemented by captivating light blue eyes.

Keiichi: Well, hello everyone! Allow me to introduce myself: I'm Maebara Keiichi, the one and only, the incomparable, but you can just call me Keiichi, or 'K' if we become close! I'm also a prominent member of the Hinamizawa game club, and let me warn those considering joining us, facing those demonic girls is no small feat!! He pauses after saying this, then coughs lightly before continuing. Anyway, I'm thrilled to meet you all. To be honest, I wasn't particularly excited about diving into the intensive studies of an elite school, but you see, hehehe, I'm starting to think I'm going to have a lot of fun here after all!

As I thought, he seems to be the kind of sociable person who can quickly make many friends... He will likely gain popularity among both boys and girls, thanks to his relaxed attitude and his characteristic way of speaking and interacting... And they mention this "Hinamizawa game club" again, but what exactly is it? It seems they take certain pride in it...

Indeed, I expected him to be one of the three other members Mion had mentioned, given their obvious acquaintance with each other... A third member as well, then? I wonder who it could be since she hasn't invited anyone else. Could she be in another class, maybe class A? That's what I'm wondering.

Rena: U-Uh, um... Hello everyone and nice to meet you! My name is Reina Ryuugu, but please, just call me Rena, drop the "i". Well, I'm part of this club too, and even if I'm not very strong, I always give my best and... I-I really hope we all get along well!

And here's Rena now... These three undoubtedly make up a very captivating group. Each has its peculiarities, and it's already evident... Rena seems to embody that type of shy but very endearing girl, the kind of person you instinctively want to protect.

However, one detail piqued my curiosity... Why does she insist on being called "Rena" rather than "Reina"? There must be a specific, probably personal reason, which is quite intriguing.

I don't need to get too lost in conjecture for now; better to focus on the others' introductions and gather all the courage I need... After all, I will also have to introduce myself soon, won't I?

Mion: Hehehe, now that our whole gang has introduced themselves, it's your turn. She then pointed her finger at a person... who was Furudo. How about starting with you, huh? After the effect you've made, I bet quite a few here are curious to hear you. And yeah, you seem really captivating, you know. Your way of thinking impressed me, you could almost measure up to me, ahahaha!

I share this view; Furudo is certainly one of the most captivating and intriguing figures here. My curiosity about her presentation is perhaps also tinged with a desire to learn more about her? Who can say.

Following Mion's intervention, Furudo chose to introduce herself, displaying a smile that regained its nobility.

Furudo: Oh, but of course, it's essential that I introduce myself properly, after all. *Giggle* *giggle*. Very well, allow me then: I am Furudo Erika, and I am THE detective, the one who unveils truths. I am particularly passionate about detective novels and mysteries, these are my favorite hobbies. Pleased to meet you, dear classmates, and I sincerely hope we will get along well~! I appreciate intelligent and thoughtful people, and the mere fact that you are in this class leads me to believe that I will probably like you. *Giggle* *giggle*.

...What she emphasized in introducing herself as "THE" detective, particularly stressing the "THE", arouses my curiosity... What is she trying to highlight with this emphasis? For now, I can only speculate, but it is clear that it captured the attention of the whole class, with two people looking particularly captivated.

Then, she expressed her taste for detective novels. That's revealing; it indeed confirms her penchant for puzzles and solving mysteries... I wonder if she perceives the situations she encounters as puzzles to be solved? Probably, and that seems to be an apt comparison.

Indeed, I feel privileged to be in the same class as such a person of stature... With someone as brilliant, charismatic, and complex among us, our class will undoubtedly be very dynamic. Maybe I can even lead the quiet life I desire thanks to her presence. In any case, she is undeniably fascinating.

Keiichi: Huh? What, "THE Detective"? Wait, you're really a detective, but you're the same age as us, aren't you?

Mion: Hehehe, well, that's really exciting. Yeah, for now, you're at the top of my list; I'm super happy to be in the same class as you.

Rena was observing Furudo with an intense and scrutinizing look, as if trying to probe her, a serious expression forming on her face... It's clear that Furudo has caught everyone's attention.

As Furudo gave them one of her characteristic smiles, the next person to stand up did so with as much suddenness as before... It was Sora, the boy who had already interacted with Furudo a bit earlier. I now realize he was constantly accompanied by what seemed to be his younger sister, which intrigued me... Why was there a child who is clearly not a high school student with him? Why was his little sister here? I expect him to provide an explanation, as it certainly draws attention.

Sora always wore his mischievous smile, while the young girl by his side seemed to adopt a more neutral expression.

Sora: Well, why not introduce ourselves after her? You know, Erika, I find you really interesting, I appreciate intelligent people, and I feel we're going to have a lot of fun together. How about you join us for a game one of these days? You could even be a worthy opponent for Blank, right, Shiro?

Shiro: She nodded in agreement with Sora. I, too, would like to see what you can do against us.

Furudo: Oh, I would be truly delighted to play with you as well, I am convinced that we will have a great time... I also get the impression that you will be at least somewhat interesting opponents, *giggle* *giggle*.

It seems I have witnessed the emergence of a potential rivalry... or perhaps a friendship? I cannot say for sure, as the subtleties of social relationships often elude me.

Following this, Sora laughed heartily and then introduced himself to the entire class, along with his little sister, who also sparked everyone's curiosity.

Sora: Ahahaha, perfect then!! Pleased to meet you all. I am Sora Raifu, I think I've already introduced myself earlier, and this... He places his hand tenderly on his little sister's head. This is my little sister, Shiro. We do everything together. And you're probably wondering what a child like her is doing here with me, right? Well, it's quite simple. Blank is a team of two people, we together form a single, inseparable, and invincible entity. He announces this with a hint of arrogance. Isn't that right, Shiro?

Shiro: Yes, I agree, Big Brother. Anyone daring to challenge Blank is bound to fail... Nevertheless, try your luck; there might be worthy opponents for Blank here.

Sora: Sora lets out a chuckle before continuing. Honestly, you gave us quite the show earlier... I was really impressed to see that someone else had similar reflections to mine. There's no doubt, you must possess a certain degree of intelligence. I'm really curious to see what our "detective", as you call yourself, could achieve against Blank.

Furudo: *Giggle* *giggle*. I am truly honored by your compliments, but it was merely a modest deduction, nothing that was overly complicated to infer... I am convinced that, in this class, far more individuals than one might think have managed to glimpse at least part of the truth, isn't it? She offers him a refined smile before laughing again, then continues. Anyway, your proposal is intriguing, and I am just as curious to see how you will measure up to me.

It is perceptible that both Furudo and Sora display a certain arrogance, likely due to their confidence in their own intellectual abilities, which is understandable given their evident skill.

After this captivating interaction between Sora and Furudo, another student suddenly stood up, drawing my and the class's attention to him, sporting a mischievous smile... It seems that our class is filled with significant personalities.

This pale-skinned boy had short red hair and eyes of a metallic sheen, either mercury or gold, lending intensity to his gaze. His build was slender.

Smirking Boy: Oh, but that's truly fascinating, what you're saying there. May I join in the conversation? He bursts into mocking laughter before continuing. I'll take care of the next presentation, that's no problem, right?

He radiated an aura of confidence, with that smirking smile constantly displayed. I imagine he will probably be the kind of student to stir up some trouble. It would be wise for me to keep a certain distance if I wish to avoid complications...

Akabane: My name is Karma Akabane, a fan of all kinds of sports... I also like games, and I'm convinced we're going to have a lot of fun together. Yeah, I sense it's going to be even more fun than over there. *Snicker* *Snicker*. And honestly, I was impressed by what you did, Erika, and you too, Sora. Well, for us, it might have been obvious, but I bet the idiots from the other classes couldn't grasp a bit of those puzzles.

Sora: Ahahaha!! Come on, let's not be too harsh on the other classes. I'm sure class A could deduce such elementary things, don't you think?

Furudo: *Giggle* *Giggle*. Class A, I'm certain, but what about class D? I'm even willing to bet that those poor souls lacking in gray matter will manage the feat of squandering those 100,000 yen in just one month, right?

Mion: Come on, let's not be too hard on them, they managed to get into this school, didn't they? Let's not be too severe; I'm sure some of them must have made some good guesses, don't you think? She added that with a little smirking smile.

Akabane: Hehe, yeah, you make a point, let's be lenient with them, after all... He lets out a chuckle and then turns to the person next to him. Nagisa, come on, it's your turn to introduce yourself to the class, come on. Don't be shy, you'll have to do it sooner or later.

This class indeed seems to be full of personalities who share a certain confidence, even arrogance... They all seem to possess a certain intellectual sharpness. Next to them, I feel somewhat overshadowed.

Following Akabane's intervention, another student sitting behind him stood up, displaying a certain shyness. He scanned the class with a reserved look, scratching his cheek in an embarrassed manner.

He was a delicate-built teenager with blue hair and celestial blue eyes. His hair, falling to his shoulders, was tied in a way to evoke cat ears, probably to minimize its length. His demeanor was androgynous, but a closer examination, aided by the uniform he wore, clearly revealed he was a boy.

He spoke in a timid voice, reminiscent of Rena's, but seemed slightly more at ease with the entire class, not stammering and even displaying a gentle smile.

Shiota: Hi everyone! He offers a gentle smile before continuing. My name is Nagisa Shiota. Well, I have quite varied interests, to be honest... I don't really know what else to add, I come from the same place as Karma, haha.

He probably embodies the type of shy boy that some girls find appealing, right? I have observed such dynamics before.

Suddenly, just after he spoke in a timid and sweet manner, a noise similar to a "pop" was heard from where Rena, Keiichi, and Mion were located. Rena appeared to have steam coming out of her head, her eyes becoming blurry and strange, with a wide smile and a very joyful and overly excited expression, which was bizarre... She seemed to be squirming everywhere, even struggling to articulate a single sentence under the effect of her excitement.

What is happening here? Where has the cute and shy Rena we knew until now gone? It seems we are about to witness an event that is at least unusual, curiously...

Rena: S-S-So cute... Hauuu ~☆!

Suddenly, and with a speed that bordered on instantaneousness, she found herself next to Shiota, enveloping him in a hug while bouncing with enthusiasm, pressing her cheek against his with overflowing zeal... Shiota appeared disconcerted by this influx of affection, which was entirely justifiable. A light pink hue appeared on his cheeks as he tried to comprehend the avalanche of emotions emanating from Rena.

As anticipated, we were witnessing a scene that was quite unusual. What motivated such a display? The attention of the entire class was captivated by this unexpected exchange, eliciting a resigned sigh from me.

Shiota: U-Um, sorry? I...

Rena: She drew even closer to Shiota, pressing her cheek against his with overflowing energy. H-Hau, it's true, you are so, so cute, hau ~ hau!! I'm going to take you to my room, oh yes! Y-You, you're in for some treats, hee hee hee ~☆!

Shiota: Shiota felt his cheeks blush even more, his nervousness increasing. U-Uh, what? W-Wait, I... W-What do you mean, you...?

Keiichi: Hey, Rena, be careful!! You're going to give a funny first impression, you know, ahahaha. Then, he whispered to himself. It's even strange that she hasn't pounced on little Shiro yet, has she even noticed her? It's better to keep her away from Rena...

Mion: Heheheheh, sorry, but with such an adorable face, you have no chance of escaping our dear Rena's 'Kyute mode'... For now, she's in recognition phase, just choosing her next 'trophy' for her room collection, don't panic, ahahaha!! She winked mockingly at Shiota.

Akabane: Pfff— Akabane seemed to struggle to hold back a burst of laughter. Ahahahahaha!! So, Nagisa, it looks like you're becoming popular, huh... What were you saying again? That attitude, you know, it seems to appeal quite a bit to the girls, looks like you've already got an admirer, I might end up being jealous... Ahahahahaha!!

Rena: Hauuuuu~! There's no chance I'll leave you alone, you know, I-I'm going to take you to my r-room right after, don't worry, everything w-will go very well~!

Shiota: O-Oh! W-Wait, I... W-What do you mean? I-In your room? W-Wait... A-Aaah!!

It seems that this year... or rather these next three years could be quite lively, but I suppose that's all part of an overall normal and quiet existence, right? It's not really bothersome; it's more like a kind of entertainment.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the room, Keiichi had approached Sora and Shiro.

Keiichi: Mmmh... Shiro, right? And Sora, right? I would advise you to keep your sister out of Rena's sight, otherwise, she might become a bit... too enthusiastic, ahahaha. Believe me, Shiro, you REALLY want to avoid ending up in her room!

Shiro: Shiro turned her gaze toward where Shiota and Rena were standing and felt a strange vibe. She gently tugged on her big brother's sleeve to draw his attention. Big Brother, can you hide me? I have a bad feeling... I'd prefer to avoid any risk of kidnapping. You're responsible for me, aren't you, as Big Brother?

Sora: Mmmmh... Let me think about it for a moment... He mimed intense reflection before turning his head away, displaying a smirking smile. Sorry, but I find it would be quite entertaining to watch. In fact, I'm even certain I want to be there to see it, ahahaha!!

Shiro: Displaying a slight pout toward her brother, she showed a hint of irritation. That's mean, Big Brother... You'll be responsible if I end up locked in her room.

Sora: Mmmmh... Let me think about it a bit more... No, actually, excuse me!! Ahahaha, I really want to see this, go ahead, I'm convinced you'll have fun. Don't you want to make some friends?

Shiro: Hey, Big Brother, stop... I'll do whatever you want in return, even perverted things! Comical tears seem to well up at the corners of her eyes.

Sora: Sora's smile became more mischievous as he began to speak enthusiastically, raising his voice quite loud. Oh, just look! Isn't it obvious how ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE my sister is? I'm talking about her shapes, her beauty, of course. Even at her young age, isn't she incredible? Haha, I bet many would love to have a sister or even a wife just like her! See how well-developed she is for her age, really beyond her years!

It seems that the performance is far from over, isn't it? I feel almost as if I were watching a play, which is quite entertaining to observe.

However, just as Sora articulated his words in a loud voice, almost shouting, with an unmistakably mocking tone... Before he could add anything else, he was suddenly thrown to the ground, ending up sprawled on the floor.

It almost seemed as if Rena had the ability to teleport, still overly excited, now firmly embracing Shiro just as she had done previously with Shiota, rubbing her cheek against the young girl's without letting go... Wasn't it disconcertingly fast? Had she delivered a knee, fist, or even elbow strike? What exactly had just happened? The action had unfolded too rapidly for anyone to discern the details accurately. It appeared she had used some supernatural speed to strike Sora... This class truly seemed to harbor some extraordinary individuals.

Rena: D-Don't worry, see, look, R-Rena has corrected the mean brother who was tormenting S-Shiro, see, h-hau... Now everything is okay, hauuu... Y-You're so cute, really, with your tiny t-tears... I-I'll take you to my room, okay? Hauuu!!

Shiro: Oh no, not the room...

Sora was now on the ground, sporting a large bump on his forehead. Only Keiichi had approached to help him up.

The class's reactions to this incident varied greatly, with most students displaying expressions mixing surprise and confusion.

Keiichi: Hey, are you alright, man? ...Sorry, I should have warned you... But it's better not to do that when Rena is around... Especially with something she finds cute, like your little sister...

Sora: Sora took Keiichi's hand to get up, appearing slightly disoriented and dizzy. What was that? I didn't even have time to see where the hit came from, was it an elbow or a knee? Oh, but wait... You're serious? Does this happen that frequently?

Keiichi: Yeah, unfortunately... And it always hurts, so a piece of advice, buddy, stay strong and... He clenched his fist firmly, his face tensing. You're going to have to avoid those kinds of jokes or comments in her presence...

Sora: Avoid... Those jokes? But how could that even be feasible! Fake tears seemed to well in his eyes. Cursed Rena, now I'll have to beware of her stealth attacks! I will not stand idly by; no, Blank never backs down!

I doubt that's really wise...

Meanwhile, it seemed that Shiro had an idea. She didn't even attempt to break free from the embrace, observing Rena with a look that could be likened to a puppy's, while the latter was already totally euphoric.

Shiro: Rena, right? You'll protect me from my brother's perverse ideas and... others, right?

Rena: She hugged her even tighter. Oh yes, don't worry, now Rena is here to protect you, hau~! You'll be safe in my room, I promise, hauuu!!

Shiro gave her brother Sora a mischievous look, sticking her tongue out at him afterward. In response, Sora looked at her with an expression betraying a sense of betrayal, while Keiichi patted his shoulder in consolation.

Indeed... This class promises to be very lively, doesn't it?

Shiota: Gradually, Shiota seemed to regain his composure, his cheeks still displaying a slight pink hue, his expression filled with confusion as he watched the scene unfold. What just happened? Hey, I was convinced she was right beside me, and before I could even understand, she had disappeared...

Akabane: Ahahaha!! That was really captivating, I admit... Yes, she was incredibly fast; I doubt many here could follow her movement, but what a hit, ahahaha. His smug smile never left his face. So, Nagisa, it looks like you've caught the attention of an intriguing girl, you're quickly gaining popularity; I'm almost surprised you got an admirer before me.

And, just as suddenly as the previous interventions, a new person abruptly stood up, as if they could no longer sit idly by and watch the scene unfold... A broad smile lit up his face, betraying a state of excitement.

He was a boy rather short for his age and the other students. His black hair was interspersed with streaks and highlights of purple, he had eyes of the same color, and wore a black and white checkered scarf with his uniform.

It seems this class is full of exuberant personalities... Could it be that classes are organized based on these character traits? No, that couldn't explain my presence here... And the two individuals who left the room during the presentations probably wouldn't have fled in that case. The diversity is evident... Yet, I feel that everyone here is in some way extravagant. Although I also possess my peculiarities, I feel somewhat out of place here, like an ordinary element within an assembly of exceptions.

Kokichi: Hey, hey!! You weren't thinking of leaving me out, were you~? I want my share of fun too!! Nishishi! Let me slip into the game and have a blast with you, hihihi, this promises to be exhilarating!!

When the attention of the entire class focused on him, his excitement seemed to rise a notch. He displayed an energetic smile, typical of a child brimming with enthusiasm, and launched into his presentation before all his classmates.

Kokichi: Hello ~ Greetings, everyone!! I'm Kokichi Oma, the supreme leader, yes yes, a talent straight from Kibougamine Academy!! Ah, and just a spicy little detail, I'm also the big boss of a wickedly evil organization, at the head of an army of over 10,000 baddies, nishishi...

The claims he just made raise several questions... "The supreme leader"? What does that title mean? And Kibougamine Academy? Is that another special institution similar to ours? That still eludes me.

He claims to lead a large organization with 10,000 members? What is he trying to convey with that? Is it a way of saying he comes from a wealthy or influential family? However, he referred to "baddies"... This boy seems extremely theatrical and unique, though he certainly draws interest. What he denotes with his words remains nebulous to me. Proclaiming oneself "the supreme leader" does not seem, in my opinion, something to boast about. He is probably another character I would prefer to avoid to maintain some tranquility, appearing like the type to generate complications, like a hyperactive child.

His intervention has evidently sown astonishment among us, suggesting that this unexpected and bizarre presentation has plunged the class into a kind of astonishment, myself included. Too many questions emerge... I should perhaps not let myself be overwhelmed by them, after all, he's just another student with extravagant behavior in my class.

Keiichi: Eh? Wait, what? "The big boss of a terrifyingly evil organization"? The supreme leader? Hey, wait, seriously?

Mion: Oh, that's captivating, 10,000 members? Yeah, that starts to speak, maybe it will even be enough to take on our club, who knows? Hehehe.

Karma: Ah, truly fascinating... An evil organization, ahahaha. His smug smile reappears on his face. Yeah, that's really intriguing, all this.

Sora: Ahahaha!! Absolutely, you agree, right, Shiro? It seems like everyone here has something unique to offer. Blank might finally meet a real challenge for once.

Shiro just stared at her brother and nodded silently.

Then, in the same breath... Kokichi, still marked by that childlike gleam in his laughter, tilted his head to the side and spoke again, sporting a broad smile.

Kokichi: That was a lie!! Nishishi! So yes, I am indeed Kokichi Oma, but that story about a criminal organization with over 10,000 members... That was a lie... Or maybe not!! Nishishi!

A lie... Indeed, that seems quite obvious. Although he showed no clear signs of deceit, the content of his statements was odd enough to raise doubts. I sighed at this revelation...

Nagisa: Ah, it was pretty clear from what he was saying, haha... He displays an embarrassed smile.

It is clear that his statements were nothing but a series of lies... However, what is truly remarkable is his ease in uttering such blatant lies with such confidence, which is fascinating in itself.

However, before Kokichi could speak again, another young man, displaying an embarrassed and reserved expression, timidly stood up next to him. This new character was in stark contrast to Kokichi's overflowing energy.

This young man was notably pale, with short deep teal hair topped with a small ahoge. He had a slender stature and eyes of a yellow-tinged gray, framed by thick lashes.

Saihara: K-Kokichi, you realize you're making quite an odd first impression, right? And... and stop lying all the time, it's really not necessary. He let out a weary sigh, full of resignation. S-Sorry everyone, he is... well, he's often like that, among other things... His voice was tinged with awkward politeness, trying to apologize for someone else's behavior while remaining as respectful as possible.

Kokichi: Oh, come on, Saihara-chan, you're such a bore, you know~! You're not going to make tons of friends with an attitude like that, you know. If you stay so dull, who will want to hang out with you? He said, flashing a broad smile.

Saihara: He sighed again, seemingly resolved to no longer pay attention to Kokichi's eccentricities. U-Uh, hello everyone, I'm Shuichi Saihara, from Kibougamine Academy... as the Ultimate Detective. He paused, choosing his words carefully. B-But, really, it was more a twist of fate, not really... not really something I deserved. So, please don't take that title too seriously, especially since there's someone else here who... He glanced towards another person, leaving his sentence hanging. Anyway, I'm really glad to be here and meet all of you!" His voice, though shy, carried a sincere desire to do well and integrate despite his doubts.

Self-doubt, indeed... It's probably a common trait among teenagers, especially in a competitive academic environment like this one. So, it seems to be quite typical behavior...

And then, this recurrence of the term "ultimate" is really starting to arouse my curiosity... "Ultimate leader" and now "Ultimate Detective"? These titles are intriguingly peculiar. I'm not sure I have the deductive skills necessary to fully grasp their meaning.

The person who had just stood up was a young girl with violet eyes and fair skin. Her long lavender hair was styled with a braid on the side left, tied with a black ribbon. Completing her uniform, she also wore black gloves adorned with studs, evidently custom-made.

Once again, another remarkable beauty... It seems that the elite is not only elite in terms of intelligence or skills but also in terms of appearance.

Kirigiri: Shuichi, I've already told you not to put yourself down like that, haven't I? If Kibôgamine Academy chose you as an ultimate, it's because you deserve this title as much as anyone else... Demeaning yourself also questions the judgment of the academy and the care it takes in selecting its students. She then rose slowly, placing her hands on the table before turning toward Saihara. And now, you have been accepted into the only institution that surpasses Kibôgamine, in this class no less. You have every reason to be proud. She gave him a faint smile. I, too, am proud of what you have accomplished, especially since you came to ask for my help.

Saihara: Saihara's rebellious strand of hair gently fluttered, reflecting his increasing embarrassment as a rosy hue colored his cheeks. He offered a shy smile, his fingers rubbing the back of his head in a gesture of self-comfort. E-Er, yes, that's true, Kyoko-san, I owe a lot to your help too. It's partly thanks to you that I've come this far, so... thank you very much! His smile grew warmer, and he slightly inclined his head, his eyes expressing sincere gratitude mixed with unmistakable shyness.

Kirigiri: She offered him another slight smile, then averted her gaze after a short moment to observe, or rather analyze, the whole class. Well, since I'm standing, I should take the opportunity to introduce myself as well... My name is Kyoko Kirigiri, and I am also known as the Ultimate Detective from Kibôgamine Academy. Another brief, ephemeral smile crossed her lips. It seems we have three detectives in this class, don't we? Furudo-san, your analysis and intervention earlier were impressive. Do you also aspire to become a detective? I am quite surprised I have never heard of you, especially considering your aspiration to become a detective, your intelligence, and your behavior which suggests a noble, or at least well-off, family background.

Kyoko Kirigiri, then? Another person from this Kibôgamine Academy... She implied it was the second most prestigious school in Japan, which means they come from an already exceptional background. Noted... She also proclaimed herself the Ultimate Detective, which raises the question: is it possible for this school to award the same title to multiple people? I don't have enough information to decide, and this institution intrigues me more and more, although I doubt I'll have the opportunity to learn more about it soon.

Finally, in response, Furudo turned towards her, adopting the same demeanor she had maintained since the beginning, and engaged in conversation.

Furudo: That's one way to see it, indeed. I don't come directly from a noble family, but you might say that. Well, let's just say it's a rather isolated place, which would explain why you've never heard of it. She gave them a tender smile before continuing. Oh, and I want to correct a small detail... Her smile then took on a slightly more arrogant nuance. I do not aspire to become a detective, for I am already THE detective. *Giggle* *giggle* *giggle*. That said, I am also quite surprised. So, you are both detectives as well, aren't you? Pleased and very happy to make your acquaintance, then! I look forward to learning more about you!

Kirigiri: Without truly reacting to Furudo's words, Kyoko seemed absorbed in her own thoughts, analyzing the words that had just been spoken. After a brief moment, she let out a slight sigh. I understand, very well. In any case, I might be interested in getting to know you better, Furudo-san.

Furudo: Oh, but I share that sentiment... A conversation between detectives can only be stimulating, can't it?

These three detectives gathered seem to promise particularly captivating exchanges... Three detectives in the same class are indeed unexpected. Faced with such talents, I feel all the more the gap between them and me, a mere ordinary student amidst the exceptional.

Shortly after, another student spoke up, interrupting the flow of the conversation. He was a young man with blond hair, dark blue eyes with a sanpaku characteristic, highlighted by long lashes. His eyes had a striking shine, although he seemed perpetually tired, marked by pronounced dark circles, as if he lacked sleep. His expression betrayed a mix of surprise and impatience, suggesting he might have been eager to join in the dialogue.

Thoughtful Boy: E-Eh, hold on, please... *Ahem* *Ahem*. Yes, I just wanted to clarify... Did you really mention Kibôgamine Academy, uh, Saihara-san, Kirigiri-san, and Kokichi-san, is that correct? Are we talking about that famous academy designed to educate those considered the hopes of our world?

This young man seemed indeed to be struggling internally to mask a form of tension or embarrassment. In such an intimidating environment, filled with exceptional individuals, speaking up must require some courage... I understand this nervousness, knowing that my turn to introduce myself is approaching, I already feel a certain apprehension.

His intervention drew the attention of Kyoko Kirigiri, who turned toward him, showing marked interest. Shuichi Saihara and Kokichi Oma, the latter always displaying a wide smile, also directed their gaze toward him, curious about what he would share.

Kirigiri: Yes, exactly... Does this school pique your interest? She simply looked at him for a moment. And you are?

Shirogane: Yes, you could see it that way. Actually, I... Ah, excuse me. Allow me to introduce myself: I am Miyuki Shirogane, former student council president of Shuchi'in Academy. It's a pleasure to meet you!

Kirigiri: Oh, so you are from Shuchi'in Academy? Being the student council president in the third most prestigious school in Japan is indeed remarkable. Pleased to meet you, Shirogane-san.

Shirogane: Displaying a slight modest smile following Kirigiri's comment. Oh, it's not that extraordinary, it's mainly a matter of discipline and commitment to studies, accessible to anyone who works hard!! *Ahem* *Ahem*. That said, I am indeed familiar with that academy; I had considered applying, but admission is exclusively by invitation, through a special letter from the institution, so I didn't have the opportunity to go there... It is indeed said to be a very renowned institution. I am delighted to share a class with such exceptional students! It is truly an honor!

Kirigiri: She offered him another light smile. The same goes for me. Shuchi'in Academy is known for its prestige, and being its representative is a significant responsibility. If you are here, you belong among us, so there's no need to belittle yourself.

Arrogant Boy: Hmph, as if we needed to be honored by someone as insignificant as you. Your place among us? Ridiculous. If Kibôgamine rejected you and didn't invite you, there must be a good reason... You might find yourself here among us, but don't even dare to compare yourself to a Togami. And let me tell you, there's a chasm between Kibôgamine and Shuchi'in, whether you were the student council president or not.

The conversation was once again abruptly interrupted, this time by a student who did not bother to stand up or turn his gaze toward Shirogane. He remained seated, arms and legs crossed, leaning back in his chair, displaying an expression full of arrogance and superiority.

He was a young man with an imposing stature and remarkably long legs, light skin, and deep blue eyes framed by long lashes, his canary yellow blond hair falling to his chin. His demeanor displayed a mix of haughtiness, superiority, and irritability.

Kirigiri: Hearing that, she directed her gaze toward the individual seated at the adjacent desk, who had just interrupted her. Togami-san... If you wished to intervene to introduce yourself, could you do it appropriately, and not in this manner?

Togami: I certainly do not need to introduce myself... My mere presence here should be an honor for the others. And frankly... It seems they let just anyone in these days. Except maybe for Furudo-san and those from the Kibôgamine Academy, the others seem quite ordinary.

His attitude indeed exuded strong arrogance, which hardly predisposes one to make a good initial impression among his peers.

This display of arrogance seemed to strongly displease another student, who, evidently irritated, stood up abruptly. Her furrowed brows betrayed her irritation. Positioned not far from Shirogane, this student also captured attention with her natural elegance and charm. She was an attractive young girl, with fair skin and long black hair, styled carefully and enhanced by a black and red ribbon. Her eyes, large and almond-shaped, were a deep red, complemented by delicate eyebrows. Her figure was graceful, denoting a discreet but certain femininity, despite her petite stature.

Respectful Girl: Togami-san, huh? After meeting Kōenji-san, it was only a matter of time before I encountered you here, and in the same class no less!! She looked at him with a certain defiance. I do not allow you to address the president in such a manner!! He is certainly far superior to you and your arrogance!

Cold Girl: Kaguya-sama, please calm down, reacting to these provocations will only make things worse... It might also tarnish your image in front of the class. Now that you are standing, let's just take this opportunity to introduce yourself and return to our seats.

Respectful Girl: She briefly directed a look full of anger at her. Hayasaka, I cannot allow him to insult the president like this!! He works hard every day, even sacrificing his sleep, and has managed to gain all this recognition even though he comes from a very modest family!! I certainly cannot let this arrogant guy belittle all the president's efforts!

The tension between these two students, Togami and Shinomiya, was palpable throughout the room, like an electric charge in the air. The look Shinomiya gave Togami was indeed piercing, full of challenge and intensity. It was the kind of look that could intimidate more than one, myself included.

On his part, Togami returned a look just as stern, imbued with a natural authority, which only increased the intensity of their visual exchange. The tension between them was so strong that I couldn't help but feel a kind of apprehension, even from a distance.

Their silent confrontation captivated the entire class's attention, creating an almost theatrical atmosphere. It was a moment of tension that, although somewhat frightening, was fascinating to observe. In this context, staying out of it seemed the best decision... And after all, there was no reason for me to be involved in it.

Togami: Hmph, Shinomiya-san, it doesn't really surprise me to find you here... And superior to me, you say? Absurd. I would like to see how someone so ordinary, devoid of wealth and inferior, could presume to compete with a Togami! You should know better than anyone, Shinomiya-san, associating with individuals of your kind has evidently also diminished you.

The situation had quickly escalated: Shinomiya was visibly furious at Togami, while Hayasaka tried to calm her. Shirogane, meanwhile, seemed lost, trapped in the escalation of a conflict he had not sought to provoke. Initially, he had only tried to engage in a conversation with Kirigiri, and now he found himself at the heart of a melee.

I sincerely empathize with Shirogane. Being caught in the middle of such a storm, despite oneself, is not enviable. It's a feeling I can understand, even though I usually strive to stay on the sidelines to avoid such situations. The current dynamics remind me how much it is preferable to maintain a prudent distance from conflicts, especially in an environment as unpredictable as this one...

Shinomiya: Raaaaah!! You are actually even worse than Kouenji-san in some respects!! I cannot let you belittle the president's efforts like this. On the contrary, being close to him has taught me a lot and allowed me to understand many things that you will probably never grasp, or perhaps even categorically refuse to understand!

Hayasaka: She let out a sigh of weariness, obviously tired. Kaguya-sama, how many times do I have to tell you this leads nowhere... Look and do as I do. She paused, feigned a cough before turning to the class with a cold and disinterested expression. Hello, I am Ai Hayasaka, the personal assistant to Kaguya-sama, pleased to meet you. Then, she turned back to Shinomiya. See, it's not that hard. It's your turn now, and after we can simply return to our seats... You're only increasing your dear president's stress, after all.

Shinomiya: Initially ready to retort, she turned to observe Shirogane, who appeared a bit stressed while following the scene, although he was desperately trying to maintain his composure... Then finally, she turned back to Hayasaka, and lastly to Togami. Aaaah, but I absolutely cannot ignore this!! It's his fault, after all. Seriously, why do I have to end up in the same class as him?

Shirogane: Finally, after regaining some semblance of calm and clearing his throat as he approached, he spoke to them. Hey, Shinomiya, it's going to be okay, alright? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, after all, it's not so important. I'm not going to let it affect me, you know, no need to fight for me. He lies. Inside, his ego and pride are probably more affected than he lets on. A-And, so, you seem to know him too, right? So, do you know him?

Shirogane acted wisely, using a diversion to defuse the tension.

Shinomiya: Of course!! He is also the heir to one of the country's four major conglomerates, the Togami family. But he is almost as arrogant as that Kōenji on the bus... Honestly, if I had to end up with a member from a competing conglomerate, I would have much preferred to be with an Ushiromiya!

Shirogane: Oh, I see... So, he is also a rival for your family, that's why you seem so antagonistic toward each other... Well, a-anyway, I think Hayasaka is right, we should end this ourselves. It might otherwise give a negative first impression of us and the academy we come from.

Furudo: Excuse me, Shinomiya-san, if I may... Do you know the Ushiromiyas?

Shinomiya: Oh? Yes, uh... Furudo-san, right? Indeed, as a member of one of the four major conglomerates, it makes sense that I would be somewhat informed about my family's competitors!! Sure, the Ushiromiyas are somewhat unique, but there are well-mannered people among them. A very good friend of mine is part of it, Ange Ushiromiya... She's not the direct heir, but she is nonetheless very pleasant to be around, far more so than some other people I know! Then, she seemed to calm down after a deep sigh, releasing the air and the tension. But why do you ask, do you have a relation with the Ushiromiyas in one way or another?

Furudo: Oh, I understand. Well, it turns out I may be somewhat related to them, so I was simply curious.

Shinomiya: Oh, I understand, um... Ah, excuse me, I have not yet introduced myself! It is a pleasure to meet you, Furudo-san, as well as the entire class. I am Kaguya Shinomiya, and I am the heiress to the prestigious Shinomiya conglomerate. Finally, for the first time, she seemed to have calmed down... Quickly now, displaying a smile to Furudo.

Furudo: She returned her smile. Well, pleased to meet you as well, Shinomiya-san.

Togami: If you wish to chat, please do so away from my desk. I do not need to hear your childish and uninteresting exchanges.

The sharp tone of Togami once again captured Shinomiya's sharp attention, who turned her incisive gaze toward him.

Hayasaka: Kaguya-sama... Miss Kaguya, please, do not respond to these provocations any longer. Let's just return to our seats; there is no need to prolong this unnecessary conversation.

Shirogane: H-Hayasaka is right! Kag-... Shinomiya, let's just go back to our seats.

Shinomiya cast one final look of anger and somewhat childish defiance at Togami, then, with a brisk turn, withdrew her attention and returned to her seat, accompanied by Hayasaka and Shirogane.

I am relieved that this incident is resolved. The persistence of such tensions benefits no one, and it is best that we maintain a serene environment, especially if we are being observed, although the idea of cameras in a classroom seems unlikely. After all, we are in an institution that values discretion and mutual respect, not one under constant surveillance. That said, it is always wise to remain aware of our surroundings and our actions.

After this heated exchange, Mion took the lead in redirecting the class's attention, displaying a soothing smile. This is an effective way to bring back calm and refocus the discussion, allowing the class to move on after such a tense moment. It demonstrates a certain ability to manage group dynamics and maintain a serene environment, despite disruptive circumstances.

Mion: Alright, guys, after that little interlude, it's time for the next ones to step up, right? Heh heh, no need for any sneaky moves, we're all in the same boat here, right? We make a great team all together! So, who's the next to speak up? Ah, I saw that two little rascals took off before their turn, so they'll save us some time... but for the others, who's ready to go?

When Mion invited the next student to introduce themselves, a young girl stood up calmly, with natural grace. Her dark blue hair, illuminated by bright highlights, fell gently to her shoulders, framing a face whose blue-green eyes sparkled strangely, as if containing stars. Her demeanor was imbued with a kind of contained enthusiasm, a measured and elegant zeal, different from the more raw and palpable excitement we had observed until then.

Her smile had something truly captivating about it, as if she radiated an inner light. It's amazing how a simple expression can emit so much warmth and positivity. She seems to be the kind of person who effortlessly brings a bit of light into the room, just by being there.

Akane: So, I guess it's my turn! Hello everyone, I'm genuinely thrilled to meet you all, and I sincerely hope we'll get along well! She offered a warm and genuine smile to the assembly. My name is Akane Kurokawa, but please, feel free to call me Akane. Perhaps some of you might know me a bit... I am an actress and have had a few small roles. It's a surprise for me to be here, but I thought it was the right time to take a break and focus on my studies to really secure my future. Her smile widened, her joy lighting up the room before she turned towards Aqua, who was still seated. And you, Aqua, why not go next? You'll have to introduce yourself at some point, right? Come on, stand up, I'm sure you'll be great~!

The teenager sitting next to her briefly turned his gaze in her direction before looking away, as if he was embarrassed or hesitant. Then, he stood up slowly, revealing a demeanor that would undoubtedly captivate attention. He had all the attributes of the popular young man, with a certain mystery surrounding him, perhaps due to his elegantly styled blond hair and deep azure blue eyes, one of which curiously sported a star. This peculiarity in his gaze intrigued me. Is it natural or a stylistic effect? Perhaps he wears lenses to add a distinctive element to his appearance.

Aqua: He nodded, a bit formally. Very well, pleased to meet you, I am Aquamarine Hoshino. Yes, I know, it's a bit unusual as names go. You can simply call me Aqua. As you may know, I have a sister here, so it's more practical to use my first name. 'Aquamarine' is indeed a bit long, so 'Aqua' will suffice." He glanced at Akane, his face taking on a slightly rosy hue upon seeing her welcoming smile, but he quickly composed himself. Well, I've done a bit of acting in the past, but I'm really happy to be here. Getting our high school diploma should at least offer us a somewhat more secure future.

Kurokawa, or rather Akane, gave Aqua a charming smile along with a thumbs up, eliciting a slightly nervous reaction from him. Aqua let out a sigh before returning to his cool and expressionless demeanor, the one he had adopted during his presentation.

Then, the sequence of introductions continued with a new student who had a constant smile, wearing headphones around his neck. An intriguing choice of accessory, certainly, but why not. He presented himself as a rather ordinary teenager, with short brown hair and matching eyes, fair skin, and a stature that seemed typical for a young Japanese person. Here was finally someone who appeared a bit more normal, at least at first glance. Perhaps he is not as ordinary as he seems, but it is refreshing to see a somewhat more conventional figure among us.

Shiroyanagi: Ah, Aqua Hoshino, isn't it? I have a vague impression of having seen you before, probably in that episode where you played the antagonist in "I'll Go With Sweet Today". And you, you also participated in "LoveforReal", if my memory serves me right. Intriguing, I didn't expect to find actors among us. He displays a slight smile, almost indifferent, before continuing. Anyway, my name is Akira Shiroyanagi. I find a certain interest in various games, ready to take on any challenge that is proposed to me. Perhaps I will finally find something capable of piquing my curiosity!

After Shiroyanagi's introduction, which had fortunately proceeded without interruption, another student began to speak to introduce herself. Again, it was a young girl of great beauty. She had an elegant stature and graceful curves, with long black hair styled in a hime cut and eyes of a deep burgundy that seemed almost bright red under the room's lighting. Her lips were delicately tinted pink, and her nails displayed a brilliant red polish.

Jabami: Ah, so it looks like it's my turn now, isn't it? We've already seen quite a bit and time has flown with all these introductions, it would be a shame to miss the ceremony at the gym. She laughs softly before continuing. Pleased to meet you, I'm Yumeko Jabami. I love all kinds of games, especially casino games and gambling, you know, like poker or blackjack! I would be super happy to play with you sometime, so don't hesitate to come and find me for a game whenever you want!

This passion for games clearly emanated from her, bringing a more lively hue to her presentation. It made me think that maybe, to break the ice, I could invite her to a game of chess. Although my chances of winning were slim, the experience could prove to be enriching, or even fun.

The next to speak was the young girl seated right in front of me, the one whose mere look had been enough to capture my attention earlier. Rising with natural grace, her soft and measured voice resonated in the room, reminding me of calm and serenity. Her demeanor and way of expressing herself betrayed a certain nobility, reinforcing the interest I had already started to feel towards her.

Tokisaki: Well, well, it seems that the time has finally come for me, hasn't it? She gently tilted her head to the side, displaying a subtle smile. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Tokisaki Kurumi, and I am delighted to make everyone's acquaintance! I hope we will get along wonderfully. Her smile widened slightly before she continued. I must admit to being somewhat disappointed not to be in the same class as Shidou, but that only fuels the fire of our desire, doesn't it? We will appreciate our reunions at the end of the day all the more. Ultimately, it has its charm. Kihihihihi.

After Tokisaki, two students stood up simultaneously, seeming to have agreed to introduce themselves together after a brief exchange of glances and a mutual nod. This clearly indicated some familiarity between them, making me reflect on the importance of having already established a connection with Uesugi in this environment full of pre-formed cliques.

The girl among them radiated captivating beauty, with long chestnut-orange hair and eyes of a deep hazelnut. Her outfit resembled that of a game character, which added an original touch to her appearance.

Her companion, in contrast, sported black hair and features so fine and delicate that he could be mistaken for a girl from afar. However, his demeanor and behavior left no doubt about his gender, confirming his male identity. This pair seemed to have a particular synergy, ready to present themselves before the class with a shared confidence.

Asuna: So it's our turn, perfect! Hello everyone, I'm really delighted to meet you. My name is Asuna Yuuki and I'm passionate about games, especially video games. I would also be delighted to be able to play with you one of these days. She offers a sincere smile to the assembly. And this is my boyfriend, his name is Kazuto Kirigaya.

Kirigaya: He briefly touched his hair, looking slightly uncomfortable. Hi, nice to meet you. Hmm, it seems that there are quite a few of us into games here. Maybe we could set up a tournament one of these days.

Then a silence fell, a silence in which the others seemed to simply wait for those of us who had not yet stood up to do so to introduce themselves.

... Finally, after a moment of quiet where no one else seemed inclined to intervene, Mion chose to break the silence, swinging her gaze between Uesugi and me, the last two who had not yet revealed their cards.

Mion: Yep, it's just you two guys left, and after that, we'll have completed the round, we wouldn't want to drag on, heh heh heh. Come on, buck up, no need to be shy, you'll see, it's not that big of a deal, we're all in the same boat! Her teasing smile as she said this added a touch of mischief.

I then exchanged a look with Uesugi, who, after a brief shared moment, exhaled in a sigh tinged with a sort of weary resolution before standing up with marked nonchalance, his voice taking on a distinctly detached and sufficiently audible tone.

Uesugi: Futaro Uesugi, I don't have any particular passions except for studying, that's it.

Then, Uesugi sat back down, causing some surprise among the audience with his abrupt presentation... And now all eyes were on me. Don't stare at me like that; it's already uncomfortable enough. I feel my heart pounding from stress, a rather foreign sensation.

Breathe, Kiyotaka, you can do it. It's just about channeling all this energy, standing up, and introducing myself... Should I adopt a humorous tone? No, that would be inappropriate, and I prefer to establish a solid first impression to facilitate my future strategic maneuvers, especially if Furudo's hypotheses turn out to be accurate.

... It's time, Kiyotaka.

With calculated effort, I drew on my internal resources to stand up, facing the looks of the entire class.

Kiyotaka: Well... Uh, my name is Ayanokouji Kiyotaka. I, uh... don't think I have particularly remarkable traits, but I will, uh, do my best to collaborate with everyone, uh... Pleased to make your acquaintance... I suppose.

After succinctly finishing my presentation, I sat down, briefly reflecting on the effect I had produced. Probably insignificant, which in itself perfectly matches the image I prefer to project. The silence that followed my presentation was almost comfortable, contrasting with the potential embarrassment of a more marked reaction. Perfect.

I noticed Uesugi's look, slightly tinged with curiosity or perhaps empathy. It's logical, after all, his perception of interactions is likely sharper than mine. I let out a slight sigh.

"So, this is the official beginning of my journey here, in this new academic reality, after a series of presentations as varied as they were enlightening. Fortunately, the last few interventions were more down-to-earth, which somewhat tempered the overall pace. Isn't this a sign that not everything will be so complicated or theatrical here?"

Hello everyone, I'm Phoenix Lore, or Lambdadeltash if you prefer. I hope you enjoyed this first part of Chapter 1!

It's true that it was a long introduction... with 25 characters to introduce. But don't worry, what follows will be quicker. This first part was mainly aimed at properly introducing each character. I hope you didn't find it too tedious!

So, these are the characters of class S. Well, technically two are missing, whom you will see later.

The next part, Chapter 1-2, will be focused on classes D, B, and C. Class D will last at least half as long, and the other classes will be introduced more quickly. Therefore, the next chapter should not be very long!

As you might have noticed at the beginning, I may have made Horikita a bit more aggressive! Don't worry, her development will be somewhat quicker, especially thanks to the kindness and ways of Riku. She will quickly realize her mistakes.

I also want to mention that characters will be named in the dialogues according to how the point of view (POV) character calls them. If the POV character does not know someone, even if the readers have already seen them, they will thus be named based on a characteristic that the POV character sees in them. And of course, when it is a third-person POV, characters will all be named by their first name only.

Additionally, I am taking a moment to mention that I will alternate between this fanfiction and another one, a crossover between Higurashi and Classroom of the Elite (which is at chapter 5). So, here I will work on Chapter 1-2, then I will continue with Chapter 5 and the clues from the other fanfiction.

I wish you a wonderful day and see you soon in Chapter 1-2!
