In the midst of the exam room's subdued lighting,
Nova, a strikingly beautiful woman, stood out with an unmistakable presence. Her features were a captivating blend of elegance and allure that seemed almost otherworldly.
Silvery white hair cascaded like moonlight over her shoulders, shimmering subtly with each movement. Her piercing brown eyes held a magnetic gaze that seemed to draw in all who dared meet it, holding them captive with its intensity.
Her dark skin, kissed by the sun, spoke volumes about her rich heritage, while her subtly pointed ears betrayed her dark elf lineage.
Draped in a form-fitting white suit that accentuated every curve of her body, Nova embodied both grace and undeniable sensuality. As she surveyed the room, a subtle smile played on her lips,
"Shall we begin the test?" she asked, her voice smooth and inviting.
The effect was immediate: the men in the room gulped nervously, their throats suddenly dry, while the women clicked their tongues in annoyance, feeling the weight of her presence.
With a deft movement, she typed something on the pad she was holding. The front wall of the room trembled before slowly lowering, revealing a chained figure that drew gasps from the audience.
"GGRRRHHHH!!!!"
It was a troll, massive and hulking, with coarse, mottled skin covering its immense frame. Its wide mouth was filled with jagged teeth, and its thick, gnarled fingers ended in sharp claws.
Though the chains held it back, anyone getting too close would be easily torn apart by its fury.
The participants swallowed hard, fear evident in their eyes.
'Isn't this overkill for an admission test?' they thought in terror, glancing at Nova for some form of explanation.
'Hmm... is this even a test?' Eli wondered, staring at the monstrous troll. The troll glared at everyone with a fierce intensity, but upon noticing Eli's stern gaze, it seemed to focus its anger solely on him, glaring back as if it wanted to devour him.
"ggggrrrrr!" it growled.
"Hehe..." Eli chuckled softly before turning his attention back to the examiner.
"What is the rank of this monster?" Nova asked, her voice calm and authoritative.
Everyone exchanged uneasy glances before looking at the monster. After a moment of hesitation, someone spoke up, "It seems like a 5-Star Rank."
Nova glanced at that person's ID and made a note. The participants clicked their tongues in frustration; they realized even their answers were being evaluated.
"Actually," Nova corrected, "This monster is a 6-Star Rank... if you had sensed its aura. Now, There will two rounds for this admission test, In this round, all you need to do is show me your skills. Whether you kill it or not will definitely not affect the results."
Relief washed over the participants as they realized she wasn't asking them to kill the troll. Nova noted those who sighed and began calling them one by one.
"Jimmy!" she called.
"Yes," replied a boy, stepping forward hesitantly. The troll glared at him, and he trembled before raising his hand, mumbling a spell.
Aquarion
Aglow with ethereal light, the liquid within his palm surged forward. As the water hit the monster, it barely had any effect. The troll merely snorted and strained against its chains.
"Pffttt---" Some of the participants couldn't suppress their laughter, mocking Jimmy's pathetic attempt. He had been the one to mock Eli earlier, and now he found himself humiliated.
Jimmy glared at them before stepping back, defeated.
Nova called the next person, and the sequence continued. Each participant did better than Jimmy; some even managed to make the monster bleed, which was considered a significant achievement.
Meanwhile, Eli pondered the power system that others often discussed.
Unlike the others, he was soulless and couldn't sense any kind of energy from the monster. He reflected on the classifications within the power system for Transcendents, which were divided into four major ranks:
* 1 to 9 Star Rank
* Domain Rank
* Monarch Rank
* Emperor Rank
Each major rank was further divided into minor ranks, with each increase offering an extension to one's lifespan:
1-9 Star Rank:
* 1-Star Rank: +15 Years
* 2-Star Rank: +15 Years
* 3-Star Rank: +15 Years
* 4-Star Rank: +15 Years
* 5-Star Rank: +20 Years
* 6-Star Rank: +20 Years
* 7-Star Rank: +20 Years
* 8-Star Rank: +20 Years
* 9-Star Rank: +50 Years
Domain Rank:
* Early Domain Rank: +100 Years
* Late Domain Rank: +200 Years
* Perfect Domain Rank: +500 Years
Monarch Rank:
* Early Monarch Rank: +500 Years
* Late Monarch Rank: +500 Years
* Perfect Monarch Rank: +1000 Years
Emperor Rank:
* Early Emperor Rank: +2000 Years
* Late Emperor Rank: +5000 Years
* Perfect Emperor Rank: +10000 Years
These ranks, however, were not useful for Eli, who was soulless. The others in the room were mostly at the 3 or 4-star Rank, and their abilities reflected that level of power.
Eli waited patiently until it was his turn.
"Eli," Nova called.
"Yes," Eli responded, stepping forward.
Nova suddenly raised her hand to stop him. She glanced at her pad before looking up at him, her expression unreadable, "Soulless?"
"Yes," Eli nodded, smiling confidently.
"Soulless? Talk about a country bumpkin! He doesn't even know what—" Jimmy began to ramble, but Nova's glare silenced him mid-sentence. Still, he smirked and sneered at Eli.
"Do you understand that the academy typically does not select a Soulless person?" Nova asked, her tone serious.
"Is there any rule stating that, Miss?" Eli inquired.
"...No, but even so, it would be a waste of effort and time—"
"Thank you for your concern, Miss, but I believe in myself. I can kill that thing," Eli said, cutting her off awkwardly but with determination.
"Oh, yeah? And what next? Are you going to say pigs can fly?" Jimmy interjected, only to be silenced once more by Nova's glare.
'Who is that guy?' Eli thought, frowning. It felt as though Jimmy was targeting him specifically.
"I see... Then go ahead. I will only let you pass if you kill that thing," Nova said, her face serious. She wasn't trying to demotivate him; she knew the next round would be even tougher, and Eli might be severely wounded.
"Good then!" Eli nodded, thinking inwardly, 'Well, let's show these city bumpkins what it means to be a country bumpkin.'
He pulled his black pitchfork from his back.
"Haha... Look at him using a pitch—"
"Mr. Jimmy, next time you interrupt, I will disqualify you without a second thought," Nova interjected sternly.
Jimmy lowered his head and decided to stay silent. Everyone watched Eli as he walked towards the troll, which was growling and snapping its teeth hungrily.
"Mr. Eli, any closer, and you will be killed," Nova warned, ready to intervene. She couldn't allow a participant to die during the admission test; it would cause problems for her.
"GGrrrrrrr...WWrrrrrrr!!" The troll growled, its long nails poised to pierce Eli as he took his next step.
The troll's growls reverberated through the clearing, its eyes fixated on Eli, hungry for blood. But Eli remained composed, his demeanour surprisingly calm despite the imminent danger.
The spectators held their breath as they watched the scene unfold. Nova's hand hovered near her side, ready to spring into action if necessary.
'Sssssggggg'
As Eli drew nearer, the troll let out a guttural roar, swiping its massive claws in a vicious arc. Eli reacted with lightning speed, ducking and sidestepping the attack with practised agility.
In one fluid motion, Eli swung the pitchfork, aiming for the troll's exposed flank. The metal pierced through the thick hide, eliciting a pained roar from the creature.
But the troll was far from defeated. With renewed fury, it lunged forward, its jaws snapping dangerously close to Eli's face.
Nova's heart raced as she watched the deadly dance unfold before her. She knew that one wrong move could mean disaster.
Clang, Clang
But Eli was not deterred. He twisted and turned, using the chains that bound the troll to his advantage. With a calculated strike, he aimed for the creature's vulnerable eye, driving the pitchfork deep into its socket with a sickening,
Squelch
"Arrgggggrrrrrrrr!!!" the troll bellowed in agony.
Seizing the opportunity, Eli's muscles coiled like a spring. He held his breath tightly. With a fierce cry, he yanked the pitchfork free, his movements a blur.
In one swift motion, he hurled the weapon towards the troll's gaping maw. The metal sank deep into the monster's skull with a sickening,
Thud
The troll wanted to fight back, but it was too late. With one final, desperate gasp, the troll slumped to the ground.
'Drip, Drip'
For a moment, silence hung heavy in the air, broken only by the steady drip of blood pooling around the fallen creature.
"You really killed it?" Nova asked her face a mixture of surprise and shock.
"I told you," Eli replied, pulling the weapon from the troll's skull.
'Clap, Clap'
Those who watched the scene couldn't believe it. A Soulless had managed to kill the troll. Jimmy gritted his teeth, swallowing his words and his pride.
