Looking Back At How It Came To Be

The shattering sound came to pass. Ulthris had connected with Tharnomath.

The orcish leader looked satisfied, the smile of joy he had from this battle hasn't faded.

Tharnomath on the other looked worse for wear. Ulthris's strike was quite powerful and launched him through several buildings.

His normally neat and orderly ponytail was no longer there. His white hair with golden tinges has become quite messy.

His upper body seems to be mostly unscathed, perhaps the frost armor spell did its job splendidly. But Thatnomath knew that was only an illusion. His pride forced him to fight this battle, not stupidity.

HIs six golden eyes continue downwards, to look at his leg. His left leg was severely injured, the knee cap seems to have almost been shattered as the leg is twisted in an unnatural manner.

Regenerative powers are unfortunately not one of Tharnomath's strong points. He has, after all, almost never had to taste defeat. It simply didn't evolve like his magical prowess had.

It would take him some time to recover. Ulthris Kaahen would never allow that to occur.

He's in trouble. He has to find a way out. Seeing no way to heal himself in a timely manner, Tharnomath decides to focus on his magic. He can't move, but that didn't mean that he couldn't fight.

Ulthris Kaahen is clearly enjoying the moment. His steps have quickened as he charges towards his lying target.

Tharnomath uses his pressure magic to push the attacker away. Throwing Ulthris Kaahen through some surrounding buildings.

It doesn't do any damage, but it kept him on a distance. The chance of defeating Ulthris Kaahen had been lost since he underestimated the orcish tenacity.

Tharnomath continuously cast spells to keep the brute at a distance. Ice walls to block his path, pressure magic to push him away, simply anything, so he couldn't get in range.

His situation was pathetic. He was pathetic. How could he fail so blatantly against a mere orcish brainless maniac.

'He's stronger than expected. It seems the titan blood is starting to lose its resistance.' Tharnomath thinks, noticing how much stronger his opponent had become.

It was something that he and Ergillaz thought could happen.

'That's why we tried to procure another strong individual. It's why we made a deal with seccesuss. To defeat this idiot.' Tharnomath thinks, lamenting the fact that Ulthris had become stronger than expected.

Ergillaz and Tharnomath were simply trying to maintain their power over the city. Unfortunately, the city had the tendency to turn chaotic at times. That had largely to do with the strongest of individuals who were seen as the pillars of this city.

The church was incompetent.

Sorzana Soquil loved chaos and fun more than she loves Ergillaz. Ergillaz valued the Talvit name and the responsibilities he bore higher than his love for her.

Volathriis was too bestial.

Ulthris Kaahen loved to battle and was also on the slower side. He would not be convinced to calm down and follow in line.

Well, at least that's what they assumed. Until one day Ulthris Kaahen approached them to negotiate. He would become their ally and help them maintain a power balance. In return, he wanted the strength to be able to go against some of the stronger devils.

Ergillaz and Ulthris negotiated for a long time. The golden eyed arch devil suspected that if Ulthris Kaahen was insincere, that he would falter after a while.

He did not falter, however, so Ergillaz decide to offer him a deal. Ulthris would receive titan blood and ingest it himself. In return, he had to sign a blood contract that would kill him if he went against Ergillaz's will.

The deal was struck and all seemed to be well. Ulthris had more power, and we had a powerful alliance.

The existence of Anima was unknown. We've never heard of her, nor did we know her capabilities. She was apparently a powerful wraith with quite the talent.

Such a powerful individual was merely traversing the darkness out of Lucille's light. Never making its presence known. We did not react, we had no reason to. Of course, that was before she broke the contract that Ergillaz created.

Breaking a contract that an arch devil created was nearly impossible. She succeeded, thus she was a threat. Besides, she had made it clear that she was hostile.

We suddenly had 2 powerful enemies, one that we knew was very powerful and one that could become powerful because of the titan blood.

They had to die, for breaking the contract and for our future.

They disappeared soon afterward, only Ulthris would sometimes still traverse the city. We didn't decide to kill him for one reason.

Anima was the real threat, and he was our only connection. If he died, she would probably just wait for some other opportunity. We rather risked a battle against a wraith queen and a powerful orc than a wraith queen and something like another powerful arch devil.

During this tense war of nerves, Ergillaz had another idea. We simply had to create another powerful ally.

After a while, we discovered that the talent to become a competent ally was limited. We decided to settle on the leader of the pale orcs or whatever they called themselves. He could become a sufficient meat shield, and he had some goons that followed him. It wasn't much, but it was something.

He died in a duel, setting back our process. It wasn't a major loss but still inconvenient.

Who would have ever thought that an "inconvenience" would have become the greatest blessing we knew.

His killer was a reincarnated whose growth and potential was frightening. Ergillaz immediately made a deal with this individual. He was never one to miss a bargain.

He even made a deal with Ashmodai. A gambling devil that did not have any notable reputation, but also quickly became a quick help.

The deal was plain and simple. You're familiar with Seccessus, make sure that he's not tempted in to desert his contract, and we promised that you get to share in the boundless benefits that would follow.

Luck and coincidence was all that happened for them to meet. A small smile appeared on Tharnomath's normally frozen face, thinking about the past. The training together, the growth of Eli and even the antics of Ashmodai had become pleasant.

Tharnomath, knowing that death might follow soon, began to realize something.

He was at the very least lucky to have met them.
