Metal Of Creation

Chapter 1 continued....

Part 3

Metal of Creation

"You know the rules. Hands behind your backs with weapons ready to go." A firm voice ordered from behind it. My muscles, tensing to point of pain. Breathe, just breathe. The sound of metal on metal permeated the silence in the room as the door slid open to the right. I squinted my eyes against the onslaught of the bright lights from the hallway. When they finally adjusted, I made eye contact with a black visor. In front of us stood a sentient, dressed in armor painted black. There he stood tall and proud like he owned the world or something. I had to physically relax my face hiding my annoyance at the arrogant fool. His black shaded visor hid his face, but I didn't have to see it to know he was smirking. His condescending voice was all the proof I needed.

"Let's go, ladies. I don't have all day for you to waste my Bio-time." He stepped to the side. Waiting. He was clearly new. I stared ahead, making sure to look absent.

His armor clutched on his lean body like skin. The fabric malleable like rubber bending to his will, but it was as tough as a sheet of a diamond. Cutting through it would not be an easy task, but I was willing to bet if I shaped my dragons into katanas, I could easily take him out. They were sharp enough to cut through anything.

Their metal of creation was able to withstand any and everything. Like he sensed my thoughts, the guard gripped the blank shocker on his waist. I fought the smirk rising on my face. I've been on the receiving end of that cylinder-shaped stick before. That black crystalline pole he had on his waist had enough bolts to shoot a Bio-rocket into space and bring it back home safely. I fixed my stare ahead. I had to be smart about this, which meant knowing when to pick and choose my battles. I paused in the hallway, waiting.

A pressure on my arm had me tightening my hands into fists. I stared down at the hand the guard was going to lose.

"Not, today Ms. Silent." The guard that had come to "retrieve" us taunted.

"I was ordered to make sure everyone stuck with their teams today and arrive on time. So, no waiting for your little chameleon buddy." I cut my eyes at him and made no motion to move. His grip tightened painfully on my arm.

Gritting my teeth against the pain, I fought with every ounce of my will not throw his ass through the wall. With his free hand, he pulled his blank shocker from its holster. He bent down slightly. His black visor, popping my personal bubble.

"This isn't a debate."

I didn't even so much as wince when he tightened his grip. To enforce his threat further, he pressed the button of the blank shocker, and the sound of electricity filled the hallway. I stared at my reflection in his visor.

My face was impassive, but my brown eyes held in their depths something dark and sinister. The birthmark going down the side of my face flashed white for a second before turning back to its original black color. I sighed, just shy of stopping myself from shaking my head. I pushed it down. Looking toward the floor instead. I heard him chuckle and knew he had a smug smile stretching that face of his again. I was not giving in. I was disappointed. There were Bio-vids throughout this hallway. I was pretty sure SHE was watching. No matter how placated the situation, I remained the sentient/ GI guard's actions would still be met with consequences. The GI guard had just sealed his fate. I tugged my arm out of his grip. When he wouldn't let go, I stared at him. He tightened it and laughed when I flinched. Idiot. With as much force as I could muster, I yanked my arm out of his grip, rubbing it.

Without a second glance, I sidestepped him picking up my pace to catch up with the team. I caught with my group slipping in behind Daisha. She glanced in my direction once before returning to stare at the back of Zaylee's head. Zaylee did a double-take. Wrinkles appeared in the middle of her brow as she shot a confused look in my direction. Zaylee reached up, tapping the back of Kira's shoulder. She glanced back. Her eyebrows rose high on her face noting my presence as well. I chose to ignore them, staring ahead at our surroundings.

The walls were just the same as when we first arrived here. Dreary and depressing as hell. Gray limestone walls surrounded the hallway. Grey marble floors covered the ground, and dark, gray metal doors ways belonging to other occupant's rooms were open. Girls like us going through the same thing we were going through. Inspection or just plain being pushed to join the line. They joined us as we walked past, stepping in the line forming behind us.

The line, moving in only one direction. Forward. Gravitating us toward one place. This building we were walking in now was hell, but the place we were headed toward was purgatory. When I felt a tap on my shoulder, I turned my head slightly so I could stare at little Masha out of the corner of my eye. She was a head shorter than me coming up small ways past my forearm. Her bright doe white eyes stared at me. Her pixie shaped nose scrunched like she smelled something foul, and her pouty pink lips were in her signature frown as she mouthed the words.

"Why didn't you wait for me?" I untucked my hands from behind my back to sign my answer.

"The guard forced me to go ahead. I didn't want to risk retaliation. That last attempt put me on her radar."

Masha frowned. Her long platinum blonde hair was made into interlacing patterns of three strands for each plate.

They slid on her shoulders as she titled her head to the side. She looked sweet and innocent; her smooth, pearl-colored skin showed her age. She was the youngest out of all of us. Her aged years no longer 12. Her pupils were normal, now. Well, normal for her. Her faux kind white eyes searched mine. Her real talents were well-hidden again. Her archaic virtue act, nothing, but a ruse. She was smarter and faster than most of the people here. She gave sweetly poisoned a whole new meaning. Masha was one of us. The Sui Generis. We were all defects of what was supposed to be a perfected Bio-DNA enhancement.

One of Masha's defects was her ability to blend in with her environment. Bending the light of her surroundings to hide her form. Her camouflage wasn't just her ability to cloak herself invisible to the trained eye. She could bend light to her will, hiding other things or people as well. She used her young age as a way of creating a ruse. If you saw her as any type of fragile. You had already lost. The first moment I saw Masha; I saw her naiveté act for what it was. A facade. I knew the moment they threw her in the room to train with us; she would be lethal. I was right. As soon as she joined our Sui Generis squad, she held her own and dominated. After helping her learn the trade, she and I became close. I wouldn't call us friends, but I wouldn't name us enemies either. Masha eyed me up and down before signing her next question.

"What's your next plan?" I glanced around, eyeing the guards. Some were getting everyone in line. I watched with a blank face as one of the guards shoved a girl to join the line. The girl took her eyes from the ground, making eye contact with me.

I sighed, shaking my head.

I watched as the girl's face turned deadly. Before the guard could react, she shoved the guard clear into the room she probably resided. There were a yelp and a thump, and then silence. He must have been new as well because no other GI moved to pacify the situation. They just kept ushering the rest of us into line. There was one unspoken rule that new guards didn't seem to get. You NEVER touch a genetic Bio-offspring. The guard next to the rebel girl pulled out his blank shocker as a warning. She held up her hands, surrendering before moving to join the line. Like the rest of us, she didn't want to get hit with a million bolts. Blank shockers were deadly.

More and more of chapter one coming. What do you all think of the Sui-Generis?
