Riya blinked several times but he was gone.
At first she wanted to tell herself that this was just her paranoia getting the best part of her but she looked at the ashes and rotten empty looking body still wearing the cloak on the ground again and it wasn't really easy anymore to assume that.
Just then she heard police sirens outside and doors of cars slamming. She got up from where she sat and opened her door to see police officers swarming the front of her house. She just stood there looking deranged and lost.
Sergeant Joshua and detective Kol walked up to her. Riya just stared ahead like no one was present right now.
"Miss Sindell I understand you're still in shock, if you would just let us come in and sit so we can talk abou__"
"No Sergeant Joshua my house is perfectly fine, go away all of you" she whispered cutting him off.
Detective Kol sighed. he knew how she felt right now.
" Miss Sindell please come let's talk Inside, your neighbors alerted us" said Detective Kol
Riya turned around without a word and stepped back into the house while the officers followed behind her and signaled for their team to come in and secure the scene.
Riya sat on her sofa still having that lost look in her eyes while the officers stood taking in the scene in the living each having a look of disgust on their face.
"Miss Sindell what happened here?" Detective Kol asked her carefully.
Riya narrated everything from her tormented dreams the night she witnessed the murder scene till date, not leaving out a thing.
Both officers and the rest of the team including forensics gave each other a questioning look.
" So miss Sindell you're saying, the body on the ground was possessed by a demon that later left it looking like that to attack you, and the dust on the floor is from the Demon that suddenly bust and dissipated into the air after you screamed?" Detective Kol asked with his brows furrowed.
She nodded.
" And it was this same thing in the cloak that dropped the man from the top of the building?" Detective Kol asked again
She nodded again.
Detective Kol took sergeant Joshua to a corner and asked,
"What are we possibly up against?" he asked the sergeant his brows still furrowed.
" That thing or empty body shell on the floor was the exact description she gave of the person that dropped the man from the top of the building that night. Not the superstitious type but I don't think what we're up against is natural at all Kol" Josh said
" What are we supposed to tell Chief Anthony?" Kol asked
" Exactly what we saw here" Josh said nonchalantly
" For now let's see what Leya can find, we'll check on the results tomorrow morning" Kol said.
" Yeah, for now let's just wrap this place up and I'll see if I can talk to the priest tomorrow afternoon too, his family has stayed longer in sleepy hollow, he might have an idea of what is happening" Josh said thoughtfully.
" That does it then" Detective Kol said as they both turned around and walked towards Riya who seemed to have come out of her trance.
"Miss Riya I'm sorry for all the inconveniences but we'll need you to vacate the house right now to ensure that the teams work effectively and also your safety" Sergeant Joshua said carefully.
" What do you mean vacate my house, i live here, where am I supposed to go?"
" We can arrange for you to be brought to a witness protection cen__
" I'm not some glass that needs protecting, I won't break, this is my house and I'm not leaving" she said with a tone of finality interrupting the sergeant.
"We understand Miss Sindell, but it isn't safe here for now as another attack cannot be overlooked" he said reasoning with her.
" I'll leave for now but I want to be back to my house by next week" she said.
"Alright then" the Sergeant said.
Riya turned from them and dialled Rick's number. It rang thrice before he picked up.
" Yo Riri I'm sorry I couldn't call back sooner" he said immediately he picked up the phone.
Riya exhaled, glad that he was fine.
"It's okay Rick, can you please.... come pick me up?" She asked hesitantly
"Sure sure, but what's wrong Riya?" he asked worried
" I'll tell you everything later Rick please" she said
" Alright I'm on my way" he said and hung up.
"My friend Rick is on his way" Riya said turning to face the officers.
" Well that's good then" Sergeant Joshua said trying to smile.
Riya sat down and waited while the officers went back to their team asking questions and taking closer looks at the body in the bag and the dust samples the forensics took.
In less than 30mins, Rick arrived and walked into the house, Riya ran straight into his arms when she saw him.
Rick!!!!!! she screamed.
" It's okay I'm here now" Rick said scanning the living room now filled with cops.
" Jeez What happened here Riri?, Are you okay?" he asked checking her body.
" I'm fine I'm not hurt" she said still clinging to him.
"Okay let's go" he said .
They were about to turn to leave when the sergeant called out,
" Mr Rick, a word please" he said tilting his head.
Rick let go of Riya and followed the sergeant to the kitchen area. when they were far enough, the sergeant started to speak.
" Look Mr Rick, I don't know what voodoo stuff is going on here but you need to get miss Sindell away from this house until we can fish out what's really going on" he said with a serious look.
" So you're saying it's not safe here till we figure things out" asked Rick.
" Exactly, this is the second time she has been attacked, the first might have not been directed at her but this one tonight surely had her name on it" Sergeant Joshua said
" Well I'll keep her with me and make sure she doesn't come back here for now till everything makes sense" Rick said assuring the officer.
" Alright then, Stay safe" said Sergeant Joshua.
" You too Officer" Rick said and walked away from the spot and went back to Riya
" Let's go" he said and they both left the house and headed to his car outside.
Riya saw her neighbors, the Jacksons sitting outside, they got up and walked towards her when they caught sight of her.
Mrs Jackson came and put her arms around Riya, Riya leaned into the woman remembering her mother.
Mr Jackson shook hands with Rick and they both stood and watched as the women hugged.
" Thank you so much for calling the cops" Riya said after stepping out of Mrs Jacksons' embrace.
" Of course, we were scared with all the screams and all" Mr Jackson said assessing Riya for any injuries.
"Thank you, I'm fine now" she said to them
"That's great news" Mrs Jackson confessed.
Riya really appreciated this couple, they haven't really been close but they always came to her aid anytime she needed it without thinking twice.
"Thank you" She said one more time smiling at them.
"Anytime Hun, be safe " Mrs Jackson said and they both turned and went back inside their house.
" perfect neighbors ehh" Rick said smiling as they drove off
