We kept a slow steady pace as we continued to walk down the empty highway. I look up and down the highway but it's still empty. I knew many people weren't driving since the whole world started going to hell but I was still hoping we would run into someone.
I squint against the freezing wind and my heart speeds up. "Do I really see vehicles up there or am I losing it?" I say with hope. Chip snorts and says "You lost it a long time ago but you aren't seeing anything. There are indeed vehicles up there."
I smile and pick up my pace. If we can get one of them I can jump start it and drive it to the City. Chip and I come to a stop by a small red car. I pull the door open and lean in. I frown when I see that it's out of gas.
I look around the inside but it's empty. I shut the door and walk to a white truck. I pull on the door but it's locked. I raise my elbow to hit the glass but stop short... I look at my nails then back to the lock on the car door.
