Chapter 8

Anna could hear the man cursing, but she didn't wait to see his angry face or reaction, instead, she directly ran towards the head of the bed, stretched one hand, pushing the calling button hoping she'd get some attention from outside, while her other hand was shaking Alex in a desperate attempt to wake him up. Her voice calling him, though, turned into a cry of pain when a harsh grip pulled her hair cruelly. The attacker who knew what she was doing had already locked the door from inside, and with an angry voice, he cried while pulling her from Alex's side "You little rat, do you think you can fool me ?" He finished his phrase, throwing her as hard as he could to hit the wall and fall to the ground so hard that she felt pain in every bone in her body. The sounds from outside came to Anna, so she fought the dizziness and the pain and stood only to fall on her knees, shocked and terrified when she realized what she saw, the man was pulling the injection out from the drip after emptying it in the IV hangged in Alex's arm. For a second, Anna froze, she felt her heart freeze along with every muscle in her body. Is it the end, Alex...Anna thought.The man turned to her, saying, " Now it is your turn, kid." Anna watched him with cold eyes as he walked towards her, the sound of a gunshot woke her up, and she looked at the door to see Liz and a group of nurses trying to break the glass after all their failing attempts, Liz shot the glass.Anna moved her head so her eyes fell on Alex, so with no delay, she ran to him. The man who had no idea where she got the strength to stand tried to stop her. However, she skillfully dodged him, to fall next to Alex's bed, and with a quick move, she pulled the needle out of his hand, the man was outraged "You little rat, I'll kill you " he tried to catch her again but she stepped back quickly avoiding him. Anna was fast because of a few self-defense movements she learned after going back to school back when she was living with her brothers, because of the accident and her amnesia she got in a lot of trouble and got bullied a lot. Despite that, the man was huge and much stronger than her small injured body, and with nowhere to hide nor a thing to use against him, she was once again pulled by her hair the cry she let go didn't soften the man's heart he once more hit her head to the wall, but his stretched hands to slap her again was dropped to his side when a needle slashed his back, he turned to meet Alex's angry face, who continued his attack and stabbed the man more than twice, then kicked him to fall to the ground, all he was hearing were Anna's heartbreaking cries that pulled him to reality only to see that criminal hitting her with no mercy. When the man fell to the ground, Alex wanted to keep stabbing him, but Anna's faint groans made him drop the needle and run to her, " Annaliz, are you all right?" He asked, helping her sit down, Anna lifted her bleeding head to smile to her dear brother's eyes. She touched his face, confirming that he was real and not some sort of hallucination as a result of the beating she took. She dropped herself in Alex's arms as soon as she grasped that he was real and awake, "Ahh, easy angle, I am still hurt, you know," Alex complained, hanging her too. Anna raised her head and started saying, " I am sorry..." Her words though, stopped mid-sentence when she noticed the huge man standing behind Alex, holding a chair up to hit him, Anna's eyes opened even wider when she heard the gunshot and the man fell to the ground hugging his knee, then Liz's voice getting closer asking " Are you two ok?" Alex's cry stopped the group of people trying to enter the room," stop, this is a crime scene now, agent Inderson deal with it" Alex said while standing up and supporting Anna, everyone stepped back letting him lead her out of the room, where Gorge met him " you are ok?" He asked. Alex nodded a yes and ordered, "Ask for backup if he has an inside man find them," Gorge replied. " Sure, we'll do." Alex stared at him and said coldly, "If you want to survive what happened here, you better do, " he passed him leaving the place. Alex was in pain and a bit dizzy, too, still, his grip supporting Anna was firm showing no weakness, she by her turn was hanging to him like he was her last hope. The first person they ran to as soon as they got out of the ICU ward was Adam, who gently pulled Anna from Alex and enfolded her in his arms, asking, "How are you, baby girl? " Anna whispered." I'm okay" he smiled at her and looked up to Alex, questioning, "You?" Alex rolled his eyes and said," Alive. " Adam smiled, " thank God for that. " Alex pointed at Anna and said," Let a doctor see her she was hit pretty hard.." he looked at his bandaged body and his bleeding arm and added " And so was I ".
