As the blinding light enveloped them, Kael felt a surge of energy wash over him. For a fleeting moment, he felt himself unbound, free from the weight of choices and responsibilities. But just as quickly, that freedom gave way to panic.
"Morgana!" he shouted, but his voice was swallowed by the brilliance. He could no longer see her, or the altar, or even the skeletal figure that had offered them the dark bargain. All that existed was the light—intense, consuming, and yet oddly soothing.
And then, as abruptly as it had begun, the light vanished.
