Ch 24: I will head in myself [pt1]

Rook jumped toward Rachael to grab her, but Luca grabbed Rook's foot to stop him. 

The demon had not expected something like this to happen, and he fell. But not before he smacked Luca in the face and made him dizzy.

"Kid, I will hold the demon back. You need to run as far away from us as you can. If you are here, I cannot use my abilities properly."

Luca yelled at Rachael to get her to move. Only after she was yelled at did Rachael find the ability to move around. She gave Luca one last look before fleeing away.

Rachael knew that she had no chance to help Luca out. It would be a miracle if she would not hinder him if she stayed back. The only way to ensure her safety was by running away.

"Where do you think you are going."

Rook yelled as he used the shadow beneath Rachael's feet to hold her hostage. Rachael was suddenly not able to move, and Luca noticed.

He had figured out Rook's powers over shadows, and there was no way for an average human to be able to oppose him. But he also knew that Rachael was clever and would figure out a form.

"Rachael, close your eyes and jump when I say 'go.' There is a compass on the log in front of you. Grab it, and do not look back. Then, run toward the portal and get someone to help me."

Luca could handle Rook alone, but the fight would be tough. It would be better to have some backup. 

Also, it would take Rachael out of the danger zone, which was his primary goal.

As soon as Rachael had understood what Luca was saying, she nodded and quickly waited for Luca to give her the signal.

Luca raised his staff and yelled as loud as he could.

"GO"

Rachael attempted to jump and close her eyes. Even with her eyes closed, she could feel the sudden burst of light that filled the place. And her legend was suddenly free, causing Rachael to jump and run toward the log.

She finally noticed the compass Luca was talking about and grabbed it in her hands. Then, she ran as fast as she could toward the other direction, being pointed at the compass.

"How did you! You ruined all my plans. Do you know how long I had my eyes on that human? As soon as she entered the forest, she lost the protection. Why did you have to interfere? And why are you so powerful?"

Rook looked at Luca in shocked annoyance. He could not figure this man out. First, a human had no business being this strong and still holding back. 

What's more? Rook feels his opponent is working based on someone's orders. He seemed too dedicated to the kid, but it was neither love nor familiar duty.

"You talk too much. Now that the kid is out of the way, I can let myself loose. Get ready to experience a world full of pain."

Luca threatened, and he let loose. Electricity came out of his staff and electrocuted the place. Rook looked uncomfortable, but his skin was thick enough to take this attack.

He still looked at Luca with an uncomfortable expression, and his eyes seemed to be searching for something when he looked at Luca.

"Hey, I will ask you this question only once. But are you even human? You look human, but you do not feel like one. The more I take note of your power, the more demonic it is in nature."

Rook admitted as he looked at Luca. He could feel Luca's immense magic power at his disposal. And there seemed to be even more that was locked behind a door that the humans did not even seem to be aware of.

'This human would become a problem in the future. At first, I only wanted to catch my pray and go out. But now I can see a future where his man becomes a problem for our side.'

"Huh? Do you want to know whether I am human? Well, the answer is obvious. I am what I want to be; no one can stop me. If you try to, I will burn you to a crisp."

Rook gritted his teeth as the provocation got to him. He hated being in a younger form since it made him more susceptible to teasing and similar provocations.

This time was no different, and Rook let his shadows out. He tried to immobilize Luca by binding his feet. But Luca cut off his attack by flashing his rod with lightning and lighting up the area.

"Getting rid of me will not be as easy as you think. Now, let us get to the real fighting."

Luca held his staff at ready and attacked his opponent. Rook was in a small body, and his powers were bound. There was only a little he could do now with his limited power.

"Young master, you need to calm down. We are getting constant reports from Luca, who says he is close to the gate. We shall be seeing them heading this way any second now."

Elias was tired of these words. He had been doing the same thing repeatedly for a long time. And by a long time,' he meant that the past 2 hours.

As soon as Luca has disappeared into the gate, the other people from Dark Matter also show up on the scene. They all knew about Elias's obsession with Rachael, and they all felt scared of his mood as well.

Their young master was sometimes unpredictable, but he was a calm man. They had only seen him lose his temper once before, and that had been enough for them to know not to anger their young master.

"Are you asking me to calm down now? Then, would you take responsibility for your words and help me calm down? Huh?"

Elias asked as he looked toward one of his guards. He was sure this one was selected because of his high intelligence and combat capabilities. 

But right now, Elias could not see where the intelligence lay in this man. That made him doubt if this man was strong enough to be his guard or not,

"Young master, I….it is all my fault. I shall not open my mouth carelessly again."

The guard backed down when he noticed his young master's bad mood. At the same time, he looked toward the communication team to get any news from them.

They were the only ones who could brighten their young master's mood.

At such a tense time, the stupid teacher decided to make her appearance. She strolled into the gathering and looked at Elias.

She felt sorry for the child and wanted to cheer him up. And she knew just the way to do so as well. 

"Elias, you should take a break now. I know you are worried and feel responsible for what happened to Rachael, but there is no point in beating yourself up now. Also, Suzie had woken up. So, you should go and see her now."

The teacher felt incredibly solving two problems right now.

She was confident that Elias liked Suzie as a little sister, and it would take his mind off Rachael if he spent some time with her. At the same time, it would also fulfill Suzie's demand to see Elias.

Since Suzie had woken up in the hospital room, she had demanded to see Elias. And the teacher needed to learn how to respond to Suzie's request.

Suzie was incredibly spoilt, and the teacher did not want to give in to her. But Suzie's parents had also been in the hospital room, and they would do anything for her.

It did not help that Suzie's parents were from an excellent financial background and were also dungeon hunters. The school could not afford to offend them.

'And so, the principal asked me to bring Elias back. But I am sure that Elias would want to see Suzie as well. He's a kind boy…maybe.'

The teacher looked at Elias for an answer and was about to deny her when his subordinate spoke up.

"Sir, we are getting a signal from inside the dungeon. Luca says that he found Rachael, and they are heading back."

That was good news, which finally caused Elias to release his tension. The teacher smiled, knowing she would finally get what she wanted from Elias.

But just as the happy news came, the person in charge of communication frowned again. He looked at his readings and could not help but feel something was wrong.

Seeing him look back at his calculations, Elias could not help but be curious. He looked at the person in charge of the communication to tell him what was wrong.

"Sir, there might be something wrong with our communication device. It is picking up weird readings from the dungeon. This is supposed to be the lowest level of the dungeon, but the energy inside belongs to high-level demons."

Blood drained from everyone's faces as soon as they heard these words. They looked at the guard, almost asking if the guard was alright and not hallucinating.

But the guard continued to look more and more confident by the second. 

"I will be heading inside the dungeon, and there is nothing you can do to stop me. If you try, the consequences will not be ones you like."

Elias threatened his guards, and they all backed down.

Unlike Luca, they did not want to risk their lives and fight with their young master. They had to follow what he said, or they would all die.

'This sucks. If we follow orders, then we die. And if we do not follow orders, then also we die. Life is so unfair for us.'
