Chapter 5 Into the Tiger's Den_1

The next day, Shen Xian arrived at Shen Fei Building's office tower as scheduled. After she entered the building and explained her purpose, the receptionist directly led her to the exclusive elevator for the thirty-fifth floor.

Behind her, there were faint whispers, "Who is that? How come she's going straight to the top floor?"

"Who knows? It was personally arranged by Mr. Gu, so we don't dare to ask."

"Could it be the warehouse clerk from the bomb dismantling incident yesterday?"

"Indeed it is. She looks quite similar. No one knows what exactly happened with that bomb yesterday..."

The thirty-fifth floor housed Gu Chen's office, a place not accessible by ordinary people. When the elevator arrived, someone was already waiting at the door.

"Miss Shen, this way, please." A girl dressed in a smart outfit smiled and led Shen Xian.

Shen Xian, dressed in white and black, looked pure and out of place in this luxurious office tower. From a distance, people stole glances her way, curious to see what the hero from yesterday was like.

No one expected such an unremarkable girl; but at a glance, she seemed incredibly clean-cut.

Yes, clean! Her aloof temperament seemed to radiate a chill, making the surrounding temperature drop.

When Shen Xian arrived, Gu Chen had already been waiting.

"Zhang Chi was injured yesterday, so during his recovery, you will temporarily take over his duties..." Gu Chen, dressed in a coffee-colored suit paired with a white shirt and wearing gold-rimmed glasses, looked refined and elegant.

He sized up Shen Xian and, seeing a hint of bewilderment on her face, hesitated before saying, "For now, you'll start by dealing with some daily tasks alongside me."

Just like that, without much elaboration, Gu Chen arranged Shen Xian's work.

Shen Xian was somewhat astonished. Wasn't there usually an interview process when entering a company? Even if her coming was special, there should still be some basic understanding, such as what her strengths and weaknesses were.

"Don't you have anything you want to ask me?"

Shen Xian stood in place and inquired of the man behind the spacious desk.

Gu Chen's gaze was deep as he looked into Shen Xian's eyes and stood up to ask, "If I asked, would you tell me everything?"

Shen Xian calmly met his gaze, pondering what sort of questions he might ask. Though she had prepared a bit the night before, her intuition told her that the man in front of her was not easy to deal with.

Gu Chen did not pose any more specific questions. Shen Xian fell silent, then, following what she knew of the interview process, earnestly and in detail recounted her three years of work experience in the logistics warehouse.

Gu Chen listened thoughtfully, without questioning or adding further queries.

Regarding Shen Xian's three years working at Shen Fei Logistics, he had a clearer picture than even she did. All the staff and the Human Resources Department asked said she was diligent, meticulous, helpful, and came up with ideas to improve work efficiency for everyone.

Compared to others' assessments of her, Shen Xian's self-introduction was starkly reserved and modest.

After Gu Chen listened to her, he didn't ask further questions and had his secretary take her to complete the induction procedures.

Shen Xian was led by the girl earlier to another floor, where they were greeted by a very respectful staff member from the Human Resources Department. With their guidance, Shen Xian filled out various documents, followed by fingerprint recording, staff card creation, and a series of other procedures like authorizing access to the thirty-fifth floor.

After finishing these, Shen Xian was taken back to the thirty-fifth floor to a room not far from Gu Chen's office.

"This used to be Assistant Zhang's office; you can use it for now. Apart from Mr. Gu on the thirty-fifth floor, there are three of us secretaries. My name is Ma Qi. The other two are responsible for different secretarial duties. You'll gradually learn more about the details. For now, settle in, and I'll be off to my tasks."

After speaking, Ma Qi turned to leave.

"Um..." Shen Xian felt suddenly bewildered, "Excuse me, my -- job, what exactly should I do?"

Ma Qi turned back with a smile, looking at Shen Xian who was a few years older, a flicker of disdain in her eyes.

"Your position is special, all the work content is personally arranged by Mr. Gu. To put it simply, you do whatever Mr. Gu tells you to do. Since Mr. Gu hasn't arranged anything yet, just stay put for now."

With that said, she left a confused Shen Xian turning and leaving.

Shen Xian looked around the spacious and bright office and felt a bit at a loss for a moment.

She had never been part of the workforce before and although she had heard issues about office life, standing here truly made her unsure of what to do.
