Her grandparents had been hounding her to get married but she still had a negative image of marriage that she loathed. She only needed the cute little angel but not the father. But when her grandmother’s health failed and the old lady kept wishing for a grandchild, Anna had to stop procrastinating and have the baby she wanted no matter how she got it. And in a desperate impulse, she ventured into a famous club to make herself a mother. And so started a journey that she never expected as she unknowingly got tangled with a Mafia Lord. She had a steamy night with a stranger and finally got her wish. She got pregnant. And she fully intended to raise it on her own. But the child’s father, whom she did not know was a mafia lord, suddenly appeared and insisted on marrying her. Grandparents Gets Involved

"I'm a man of my word, Ms. Anna," Lexus tried reassuring her and held both of her hands. But Anna had simply stopped trusting those words a long time ago.

He looked sincere as he said those words. And he may indeed be planning to be a good husband and father. But people change.

Her best friend Brenda's husband was like that at first too. But as time passed by, he changed and turned into a monster that they could not recognize. He was so different from the man who promised a world of happiness to her friend. It was scary how a truly good person can change so much.

"I'm sorry. I understand that you may be sincere and serious about this. But I simply can't," she sighed deeply once again and Lexus did as well. Marriage was a truly heavy and taxing topic for her.

"Please think about it for the sake of our child. I'm willing to wait until before our child is born. I don't want the child to be labeled as illegitimate," he said and kissed her hand.

"It's difficult to be a fatherless child. I don't want our child to be bullied by his or her peers in the future because he didn't have a father. I don't want to limit the child's future because he was illegitimate. I'm sure you know how society unfairly treats such a child. It would also be difficult to be a single mother," Lexus pointed out.

Anna looked down. She knew that. And that's exactly why she plans to leave the country. She was planning on resigning from work and staying in their house abroad and raise her child there. She knew her grandparents would surely follow her there because of their great-grandchild.

But before she could reply, she heard a familiar voice.

"Anna!" she heard her grandmother's voice scream her name. She glanced outside where it came from and gasped when she saw her grandparents standing outside her door.

"Anna! What happened to you?!" her Grandma's alarmed voice echoed and froze both her and Lexus as her grandparents entered her room.

"Grandma?! What are you doing outside your room? You're not yet discharged," Anna asked as well instead of answering. She rose to help her Grandma sit, but Lexus beat her to it.

"Who are you?!" her Grandma narrowed her eyes at Lexus. He eyed Anna for help.

"He is a colleague from work," Anna quickly reasoned. "More importantly, Grandma, you should go back to your room."

"What are you talking about? I'm the one who should be asking questions here," her Grandma silenced her. "Why are you hospitalized? What happened?"

"I'm fine, Grandma. I just passed out since I threw up everything I ate," she lied.

"What?! Are you hurt anywhere? Is the baby alright?" her grandmother asked.

"I'm fine since my colleague kindly brought me here," Anna faked a smile. "My baby is also safe and sound."

"What's this?" her grandfather suddenly asked in an angry voice. Anna froze when she realized that he noticed the red marks on her wrists.

"Oh, it's nothing," she quickly hid her hands behind her back.

"Those were handprints. Clearly from a man," her grandfather said and his eyes went to Lexus who looked down guiltily and avoided looking directly at the old man's face.

'You're being too obvious!' Anna wanted to hit him.

"Are you the father of the child?" her grandfather asked and Anna froze. Her grandparents were too experienced that it was too easy for them to figure things out.

"Y-yes," Lexus admitted and Anna stomped on his foot. But she was wearing indoor slippers while he was wearing leather shoes.

"No. He is not," Anna corrected. But they were already caught.

"Anna, are you hiding anything else from us?" her grandmother eyed her.

"No, Grandma. What else would I hide? Haha," Anna laughed awkwardly and sat on the hospital bed in defeat.

'I'm ruined,' she sighed deeply.

"If he is actually your boyfriend, you could have just said so. Why did you have to hide it? Is he already married?" her grandmother asked as she carefully eyed Lexus.

"He is not my boyfriend," Anna quickly corrected.

"I am not married," Lexus also clarified.

"You! You dare make my grandchild pregnant and not marry her? Do you know how many decent men we have arranged for her? Do you think my granddaughter is just a dipping sauce?! Are you forcing her to abort the baby?!" her grandfather suddenly scolded Lexus.

"N-no, sir. Not at all. I'm more than willing to marry her. And I would never harm my child," Lexus replied quickly.

'What the hell is this man saying?!' Anna held her head. 'Wait, did he say that on purpose?!' she glared at Lexus and he just looked away. 'Bastard! Just wait until my grandparents are not here.'

"Are you sure about that?" her Grandma asked next.

"Yes, Ma'am. I'll marry your granddaughter and take care of our child," he responded and Anna stomped on his foot again.

"As you should. A man needs to be responsible for his actions," her grandfather glared at Lexus.

"Yes, sir. I will take responsibility," the latter agreed. He was suddenly interrogated by her grandfather about his work history and Lexus answered all of it.

Anna could glare at him all she wanted; but with her grandparents in the fray, she knew she had been defeated the instant they caught her with the father of her child.

"Then it's settled. Let's have your wedding as soon as possible before Anna's belly becomes noticeable," her Grandma concluded and Anna almost fainted as everyone but her came to a consensus.

"Grandma, Grandpa. Please don't do this. You know I don't want to get married," Anna pleaded.

"This child! You are now already responsible for another life. Since the father wants to marry you, what else are you hesitating for?" her grandfather suddenly gave her a long scolding that Anna was shut up.

"Dear, don't scold her so much. She's pregnant," her grandmother reminded.

"Anna, I know you had it hard because of your father. But we are here for you. If this man makes life difficult for you, we can always file a divorce," her Grandma gently assured her. "I'll be sure to find you a better husband," the old lady even said with a warning smile at Lexus.

"I don't need any husband!" Anna sighed in exasperation.

The grandparents were the key. Lol. Stay tuned for the next chapters. Thanks for reading!
