Chapter 20: Misleading Truths

Phinn POV

Dorin continued staring intensely at Phinn. He was patient and would wait until Phinn found his words.

“Sir, I apologize. I should not have been in there.”

“Climb out of there and come face me,” Dorin demanded. Phinn finished his leave of the cellar. “I want to see your face as we discuss your reasons for you being here.”

“I was simply curious was all, sir. I was trying to remember an old story you had told us.”

Dorin burst into laughter at Phinn’s response.

“You know how I can tell that you are looking for something? It is because you have been nothing but respectful since I caught you.” Dorin was still smiling, staring at Phinn, who couldn’t help but start to feel uncomfortable. Did Dorin know exactly why he was there? And what would he tell his father, Roderick, when they got back?

Dorin interrupted the down spiral of Phinn’s thoughts. “So, tell me, were you down there because you were looking for something to prove your theory about the butcher’s boy?”
