I took a step back. My brain paused for a moment, and as my thoughts caught up, every part of my body stopped. Her answer shook every breath of air out of my lungs.
Did I hear her right?
"What?" I spat. "You won't let me in?" I walked forward, almost crossing the border with anger. "That's it, Elizabeth? That's all? You won't?"
"But if you want, we can go somewhere else."
"I won't leave unless, wait, what?" I stared at her. "What do you mean?"
She looked at me.
"I think." She stopped to take a deep breath, "I'm ready to hear you." A warm smile spread across her face.
I didn't when the tension that kept me awake vanished into thin air.
I almost crossed the border again so I could feel her in my arms, but I restrained myself at the last second.
'She said yes?'
'Say something, you idiot.'
"Elizabeth... I…" I stuttered.
