Poetry

The following week, Sandra stumbled upon the library. It was a grace from heaven itself, it seemed. Even though Sandra and Cecily had been welcomed to court, they were yet to receive any formal title.

From Cecily’s tales of their parents, Sandra knew that Cecily and herself came from a house of a baron. They were both fallen nobility. Even so, Cecily had practically no land to look after. The entire Borrad barony had been ruined, leaving nothing but ashes in its wake. A hollow, meaningless title and fallen nobility—that was what Sandra and Cecily remained.

They were excluded from major activities of court, not that there was much happening around. She only noticed the nobles when they were flitting around, drinking, smoking, eating and enjoying their lives doing practically nothing productive.
