“How is that? I ran into the building, and that set off the chain of events that followed. If I hadn’t—”
Marc interrupted. “Your father set off the chain by not being able to stay away from fire. Your mother knew your father. She had to be aware that he’d at least stop to see the fire. She acquiesced, letting him take you with him knowing that he would want to be part of the action. The chain of events didn’t begin with you, Colin. It started with your parents.”
“B-but…” Colin stammered.
“Do you think Armand would take Elena into a dangerous situation like a fire or a challenge for leadership?” Marc asked in a soft voice. “Did you notice all of the pack business was finished before Elena arrived? What do you think Sean would have to say if Armand told him he was escorting Elena to watch a challenge where the chance existed that she would be hurt?”
“No…” Colin whispered. “No Armand wouldn’t do that and if he wanted to, Sean wouldn’t let him.”
