I felt the blood drain from my face as my mouth gape open and eye bulge. Feeling lightheaded as my legs failed to support me. I crumbled back on my aching butt, staring at the towering figure which formed before me.
What my eyes saw, my brain refused to belive. A Giant spider, for the lack of better word, which easily towered over ten meters high, with 8 petrifying red eyes gazed down at me. While menacing, carried on a oddly tranquil quality.
"W-What are you?" I managed to stammer out.
"Bugs will fly into your mouth if you keep it open that wide." Great. At least it has a sense of humor.
"As for what I am, I am known by many names but you can call me Anasi." The colossol creature said with its eyes seeming to gaze through me.
"What do you want?" I said as I managed to regain a bit of my composure, walking a bit closer to the creature.
"My bite only bring death to those of evil intent... I will bestow upon you a greater torment... The curse of power." Anasi stated as he opened his mouth to reveal thousands of spiders.
The world around me moved in slow motion as the spiders leaped to bite me. An intense wave of searing pain spread all over my body, leaving me helplessly immobile as streams of tear rolled down my cheeks.
Every muscle, every pore, every fibre of my body felt like it was getting pierced by a thousand blades. I wanted to let out a primodial cry of pain but I didn't had the strenth to do even that.
My eyes shot open as I was greeted by the glow of the morning sun.
Everything was still blurry but I could tell I was inside my room. My breathing was still short and erratic.
'Was that a dream? But it seemed so real.'
Squinting, I attempted to get up but immediately retreated back underneath by blanket.
Suddenly my blanket - the only thing protecting me from the outside world - was ripped away from me.
"Morning, Master Michael." Came Bernard's familiar voice from above me.
"As your Master, I order you to unhand my blanket and let me sleep." I mumbled impatiently.
"No can do, you have a field trip to Stark Expo today to show that project that you have been working on with Master Peter." He said pulling my unwilling body up. "Splash some cold water on your face and come eat breakfast." Said Bernard before leaving.
Grumbling under my breath, I got up, taking in my surroundings for the first time. As I turned and prepared to leave my room to eat breakfast, I got a good look of me at the mirror.
Before I would say I had a healthy body but now I looked like a lean greek god with muscles made up of pure testosterone and a six pack abs.
"Spider bite gave me abs?" I asked myself confused while trying to make sense of the situation. Just as I was trying and failing to process this information a knock awoke me from my thinking process.
"Hurry up Master Michael, the food will get cold." Stated Bernard as he stood outside my room.
I sighed 'Problem for another time.' and went to eat breakfast where I saw Harry who was already eating pancakes while texting someone in his phone.
"You know, I read somewhere that people who eat food while texting become braindead." I said attempting to initiate a conversation.
"Oh yeah and where did you read it?" Asked Harry not taking his eyes off the phone.
"Well I wrote it and I read it... I believe everything I read." I said. "Funny, are you ready for our field trip to Stark Expo?" Asked Harry finally taking his eyes off the phone.
"Yes but there was a problem with our project. Hopefully Peter has fixed it by now and it ready to be shown in the Expo."
"Right." Said Harry. After this an awkward silence fell before us like everytime we were alone.
We weren't always like this. When we were young we were practically inseparable however, after Mom's death we slowly drifted apart. Harry tried to cope with Mom's death by surrounding himself with 'Friends'.
While I mostly preferred to stay alone having a small amount of friends consisting of Peter and Gwen and dad neglecting us wasn't exactly helping our relationship.
We ate in silence and left for school after finishing breakfast. After we reached school, we got into the Midtown High bus to reach the Stark Expo. As I entered the bus I saw that it was nearly full. Harry had seated with his friends while Peter seated with Gwen. Peter was rambling on about something while Gwen was blushing. 'Young love'
As I made my way over to the only available seat I saw a girl sitting next to it while reading 'Crime and Punishment'. She looked to be around 16 or 17 with a silvery hue in her long hair. She had a pair of gleaming teal eyes shaped like perfectly rounded almonds.
Gotta say, she was one of the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my 16 years worth of lifetime. "Hey, I am Michael, Michael Osborn but you can call me Mike or anything you like just don't call me late for dinner." I joked as I approached her and took a seat next to her.
"Uh.. hey, Felicia." She replied shyly.
"Are you reading Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky?" I asked smiling at her.
"Yeah, it's a preety good book." She said with more composure than before but still awkwardly nonetheless.
"I know right, it's a very intense and well thought out book especially for people who come from a orthodox background." I said.
"Yeah, because it shows the battle of the main character with his own demons!" She said exitedly with a certain glint in her eyes like she had found a friend who was missing from her life.
Felicia was a pretty reserved, if not shy girl. She was very polite to me. We talked and debated about certain points in the book. It was a fun experience to talk to someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
Time seemed to have moved rapidly as I was conversing with Felicia. Before I knew it, the bus had reached its destination which was the Stark Expo.
"That was fast." I remarked as students started to make their way into the Expo.
