His eyes blazed a sapphire blue as he looked at me intently. It was always his eyes I could make out, the rest of him a blur. Sometimes we're in a meadow gazing from opposite ends, others we are laying in an elegant bed gazing at each other but never touching. It always seems so real; the heat between us, the goosebumps that prickle and raise the hair on the back of my neck in anticipation for his touch. A touch that never comes.
In the end one tear falls from his beautiful eyes and that's how I know we will never be together, that's how I know I'm about to wake. Waking up is always the hardest part of my day. I want to continue to sleep, see his eyes again, but I know I can't. Instead I unwillingly pull myself out of bed, like I have done every day this month, since the dreams started, to get ready for school.
Leaving the warmth of my bed I step onto the cold, hard wood floor. Stretching to wake up my limbs a little, and then walking to my closet to grab my unflattering uniform. Consisting of black slacks, a white button up, red tie ( a color I got to pick because they don't care as long as there is a tie) and black suit jacket with our school crest emblazoned on the chest, our uniforms are anything but stereo typical. When I first got the uniform I was glad it didn't include a skirt like most female school uniforms. Anyway as I grab my uniform and undergarments I make my way to the bathroom across the hall to shower and get dressed. Leaving my hair to dry naturally on its own I apply some natural make up and Chap Stick. When I finish getting ready I grab my bag and phone from my room and walk down the hall to the kitchen. Since I'm the only one up I quietly make a frozen breakfast sandwich and make coffee in a to go cup for me, while leaving the pot on warm for when my mom wakes up. With my bag over my shoulder, phone in pocket, keys and coffee in one hand and sandwich in the other. I make my way to the door and slide on my black one inch heels (because as part of our uniforms girls must wear black heels that don't go over three inches).
Putting my sandwich in my mouth, I carefully open the door and quietly slide out and lock it. I walk to my red Dodge Challenger, with black leather interior, and slip in with ease. Starting the car I let it warm up for a couple of minutes while I finish off my breakfast and then turning on my morning talk show, I back out of the driveway and drive the ten minutes it takes to get to South Point Academy.
Pulling into the gate of the fast filling parking lot, I quickly locate a decent spot and park. Grabbing my bag and turning off my car I get out. Locking the car doors before walking to the grand doors of the Cathedral looking school. Quickly locating my locker on the right wall of the first hall off of the entrance hall. I put my bag away and grab my English binder and Algebra three binder and close my locker. With the bustling halls I hadn't noticed someone come up behind my locker door. So when I closed it I jumped back startled seeing my best friend Angelique.
"Well good morning to you too!" I say trying to calm my heart; Angel is bent over trying to catch her breath because apparently scaring me is funny. "I…d...didn't mean t...to do that" Angel stutters out, still laughing. I roll my eyes and smile at the ridiculousness of my best friend. I spot my other best friend, Jason, making his way toward us. Angel started sobering up by the time Jason reached us. "What happened to her?" he asked, pointing at Angel. I shrugged not wanting to tell him how easily she scared me. "I scared her and now she doesn't want to admit it" Angel says while moving out of someone's way. "You didn't scare me; I just jumped to amuse you. Anyway let's get to homeroom we only have two minutes left" I say matter of factually.
I walk across the hall to my homeroom not looking back to see if they were following. Feeling Angel's arm link in my right one as we walked through the door, to our desks in the middle of the classroom, I let a wide smile consume my face. This little girl sitting at five foot three inches, with a brown bob of hair and a heart shaped face always puts a smile on my face just by being there. Jason, sitting on my left, while Angel sat on my right, stands at six foot with a mop of dirty blond hair and a face normal girl's drool over. I never drooled over him though because we have been together since the diaper days.
We chattered about nothing and everything all through our twenty minute homeroom class. Deep in a meaningless conversation about how Angel broke up with her first boyfriend, Josh, the bell rung. Jason picks up his things to head to first period, while Angel and I sit contently in our seats ready for English to start. Telling Jason we would see him next period he hastily exits the class trying not to be late. Angel and I carry on with the conversation from before as our teacher, Mrs. Bakers, walks in and starts writing our assignment for the day on the board.
We all get quiet, knowing that if we continue to talk that we will suffer great consequences from one of the strictest teachers ever. Angel and I look at each other one last time in a silent mutual good luck in this class right before Mrs. Bakers turns around to address the class. "Good morning class. I expect you have had a good summer?" Mrs. Baker pauses to allow a quite murmur of yes's and good mornings to ripple through the class.
"Now let us get down to business. We are going to start off this semester by reading A Midsummer Night's Dream, a play written by the great William Shakespeare. You will be separated into groups of my choosing and you will read an act of the play I assign each group and then you will have a month to get ready to perform it for a big part of your grade. If you do not do this then you can expect to fail my class because this semester will be focusing on Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe" Mrs. Baker drones on about how important this assignment is. I take notice of the board and what she has written on it: Each group will have a month to read their section. You may read it at home because in class we will be reading Macbeth together. I expect to finish with this section by mid-semester and start on Edgar Allen Poe. I write down a reminder to myself to stop and buy copies of these plays after school, because I definitely do not want to fail this class.
"Now I'm going to assign groups if you have a problem with any of your classmates, please come talk to me after class and we will get it-" Mrs. Baker is interrupted in the middle of her sentence by the principle opening the door. Walking in our principle motions for someone behind her to follow. Mrs. Baker puts a tight smile on, obviously irritated by the interruption of her class. "Sorry to interrupt, but I have a new student here and would like to introduce him myself" the principle says speaking to the teacher. A low murmur erupts throughout the class. I look at Angel and see a curious look etched on her face. It is very rare we get new students, due to how hard our curriculum is, most would rather go to the public school across town.
"Come in and introduce yourself sir" Mrs. Baker says to the figure standing in the doorway. In walked a guy who looked about six foot, maybe taller and had straight black hair and a lean body. What I noticed that startled me the most was his eyes, they were the eyes. The eyes I have been dreaming of, those sapphire eyes. My breath catches in my throat when his beautiful eyes land on me. Just staring at each other if feels like hours are passing when I truly know its only seconds. "Hi I'm Isaac Crimson, and I guess I'm the new guy" he says. His voice is like honey to my ears and the hair on my arms stand up in a good way.
The teacher points to the only empty desk that happens to be on the left side of me, where Jason had been sitting. I try to start breathing again even though I can feel his gaze on me. Mrs. Baker starts up the class again, right as the principle is leaving. Now that he is here I can't seem to concentrate on anything. What bothers me the most is I don't know why I have been dreaming about him. Mrs. Baker divides us into groups, and of course I'm separated from Angel.
"Ms. Jamie you will be in a group with Mr. Isaac, Mr. Blake, and Ms. Hale." Mrs. Baker points to us and assigns us act two. I sigh knowing that with Blake and Hale as my partners I was probably going to have to pull most of the slack, I don't know about Isaac though. I have read this play before though, that I know that this scene is a twisted love scene between the four main characters.
"Good luck with that, I hope you play Helena, you like her character." Angel whispers beside me. I nod because it is true she is my favorite character. She was unloved by the guy she wanted who is thrown away by a girl who could be her sister. She feels resentment toward Hermia and Lysander for having what she wants and then when she gets them both by accident, well she feels that there is some big trick and they are making fun of her.
The teacher dismisses us for the last five minutes to get with our group, figure out parts and times to get together. " So what part are you interested in playing?" I hear his voice say. Hesitating while turning his way, knowing I will meet his eyes. I answer with Helena. Blake says he wants Lysander and Hale readily agrees to be Hermia. That leaves the part of Demetrius to Isaac. I stare at him for a minute and think, he will make a good love interest, play or no play. Surprisingly it seems that Blake and Hale might actually do their side of the work because they obviously can't dump it on me. So we agree to meet up at my house after school to get started on it.
"So I don't have a car to drive to your house do you think you could give me a ride?" Isaac says next to me. I nod nervously, because the thought of the two of us alone in my car was weird, even though I just met him. The bell rings and I gather my stuff quickly, not even waiting for Angel, and leave going to math. I don't know why I wanted to get out so fast but I just did. Isaac made me nervous but not only that, I had dreamt about him, intimately. I went through the rest of my morning classes in a daze trying to figure out if I had met Isaac before. But with no luck I couldn't think of one thing.
At lunch I sat at my usual table with Jason and Angel. Jason had already bought me something from the lunch line because he owes me, considering I vouched to his parents he was over at my house, when he was really at some chic's house getting laid. "So the new guy is the one from my dreams" I say while tearing into the turkey sandwich Jason picked up for me. Jason looks at me puzzled because I haven't told him about the dreams, but Angel started to choke on her Coke. "And you didn't tell me this in class!!" she screeches at me. I wince at how high her voice got.
"I'm sorry, it was a big shock to me as well. Not only that but we are working on the English project together, and I don't know I just feel this weird connection to him." I say taking a sip of my Pepsi. "What dreams, and what new guy?" Jason asks out of the loop for once. Just then Isaac walks into the caff and I stop and stare. I know it is rude to stair but I just can't help it, there is something about him that draws me to him. "That new guy, and she has been having dreams about a guy she can't touch but they are always staring longingly at each other, kind of like what she is doing now, oh and he always has sapphire eyes and that's all she can tell from him" Angel fills Jason in while I'm just staring. Just as Isaac looks at me, I look away, hoping not to get caught.
"How do you know he is the guy from your dreams, I mean you only saw dudes eyes, so you can't be sure" Jason says trying to be logical, but it isn't just the eyes that tells me it's him, it is this burning feeling in my gut that I can't seem to shake. "His eyes, that's how I know, he has his eyes. Not only that but I just know, you know?" I say, hoping I make since, but knowing I don't. Angel just grins at me, this mischievous grin. "HEY! ISAAC COME SIT WITH US!" she yells to him from across the caff. I stare at her wide eyed, with heat in my cheeks. You can never tell what this crazy girl is going to do.
I duck behind my hair and silently glare at Angel, while Jason just laughs. Suddenly I feel a presence behind that makes the hair on my arms stand on end. "Did you call for me?" I heard his voice. Angel looks at me while nodding. "Hey man, I'm Jason and well you must already know the rest of the gang." Jason extends his hand in greeting and Isaac takes it. Isaac sits next to me and I start to feel warmth rush to my cheeks and I look up trying to seem confident. "Meet me by the front doors after last class, don't be late or I will leave you," I say while getting up and be lining for the cafeteria doors. I decided to spend the rest of my lunch in the library getting a head start on my Algebra homework.
