Because people are focused on integrating with their contract beast they have forgotten how to use weapon imagine all your beast died and got crippled? Of course you would rely on weapon.

The masters could easily win without integrating their beasts due to high cultivation or mastery if they had a weapon whether it's strong or not.

For short, even if you have eight of them you can only choose one of them during fight.

Plus if your beast dies, you can only contract again for another three years, that's why you have to protect it not to die, because training for years would be wasted.

In the Serpent Academy you'll be given a serpent based beasts species once you entered third year class. The strength of the beasts depends on the grades and potential you've shown. Unfortunately for the kid he is the counterclockwise of his brother and sister.

You can choose if you like to contract it or not but you have to have contract beasts for graduation assessment where you will be deployed somewhere dangerous and wild, some training ground for government facilities like the academies, life and death matters is unknown.
