Chapter 21

His newly awakened sharingan shone ominously as a single tomoe spun lazily in both of his red orbs.

With his newfound sight he could see the world much clearer than ever before. The unevenness of the door, the fluttering of the leaves outside the open window in front of him, the tiny bug crawling around in turn corner of the room…he could see it all.

He watched in slow motion as his own aura seeped out from the many but minuscule pores on his skin. He turned his sight to his mother and couldn't help but be amazed at what he saw.

He could see the coat of aura surrounding her body protectively but what made him feel amazed was the amount of aura he saw. He didn't know if that was the normal amount someone should have neither could he use it to measure his seeing as how his aura was quantified with numbers.

'On that note, aside from my eyes I feel different.' He thought as he brought up his status screen. Once again he couldn't help but be shocked at the change.

'What the hell!?' He didn't know that to expect when his nodes were opened but he didn't expect this much of a change.

'My health points are a bit more than double it's previous amount and my aura increased by over five times the former amount.' His stats had also increased a lot with strength still being the lowest physical stat. He made a note to work on that.

He was snapped out of his thoughts by his mother putting her hand on his shoulder.

"You're still leaking your aura. You need to learn to rein in it and control it. You already have a head start." She spoke as he took in her words.

"You may have already noticed that your aura has a negative effect on weaker faunus. The people here are all faunus so until you're able to suppress it to a decent level, this room is where you'll be staying." She finished as he looked both surprised and confused at his literal imprisonment in the very room he was in.

She let out a chuckle as she turned to exit the room. "I'll be meeting with Ghira to discuss a few things so practice until I get back. If you need anything, ask Lisa."

With that, she left the room. The first thing he did was open his skills tab. Nothing had changed except for one skill.

'I expected to get nen as a skill but opening my aura nodes only leveled up aura…by a lot.' Unfortunately, he didn't see nen in his skills list or status screen so he could only move on.

Looking outside the window, he could see a faunus laying flat on the floor, foaming at the mouth. His body shivered and convulsed on the concrete floor.

'I guess I should get started.' He thought ad he concentrated on his task.

With [Aura Control] that was now at level 19, it was a bit challenging but not too difficult. The only problem was that it took too much time.

Almost two hours had passed since he started this and even now he had to consciously control his aura from leaking out. His mother had yet to come back so he decided to do some exploring.

Opening the door and checking if Lisa was nearby, he activated [Presence Concealment] and began exploring. He remembered passing what resembled a library and retraced his steps.

Without much difficulty he found his way there, making sure to avoid the few guards that he had come across.

'This place is bigger than I thought.' He thought as he snuck into the library. Nobody seemed to be in here but he didn't deactivate his skill. It's better to be safe than sorry.

There were so many books here and they were his reason for coming. He wanted to test a theory he had for a while. He walked to the closest shelf to him and started looking through the title displayed on the bindings while running his fingers on their surface as he moved.

He did this for a few minutes and was losing hope until a notification from his system popped up causing a victorious smile to emerge on his face.

[*Ding!*]

[Do you wish to learn 'Art of Diplomacy'?]

[Yes] or [No]

He refrained from verbally rejoicing because while [Presence Concealment] was a great stealth skill, it didn't hide sound so he still had to be careful.

The thought once passed through his mind about whether or not skill books existed and if he could make use of them. The reason he hadn't tested this theory at home was because all the books he had found were history books and such.

With a goal in mind, he perused the library for any skill books it could have. He came across more of them but they weren't skills he would like to learn. He dropped a farming skill book and picked up another one.

[*Ding!*]

[Do you wish to learn 'Sword Mastery'?]

[Yes] or [No]

He slipped it into his inventory and continued looking. He kept it in mind that he'd have to leave before someone caught him so he tried to make it quick.

It was quite a while since he found the first skill book but so far only two other books caught his eye before he decided that it was time to leave. He limited himself to those three books otherwise someone would notice.

He silently made his way back to his assigned room, once again avoiding the roaming guards. Upon getting to the room, he found a strangely familiar child standing in front of it, peeking into the keyhole…or at least trying to.

"What are you doing?" He asked now behind them, making his voice known. The child faunus who revealed themself to be female jumped in fright, not expecting anyone to sneak behind them.

"Who are you!?" She asked in apprehension as she backed up. He really had to raise a brow at that.

'Are all faunus this obnoxious from such a young age?' He recognized the person in front of him. Blake Belladonna, daughter of Ghira and a member of the future team RWBY. She looked to be around the same age as him.

"Isn't it rude to answer a question with another question?" He asked rhetorically as he turned away from her, towards the room. He had locked it as he left which explained why she didn't just go in. She seemed to be very impulsive which was something that was starting to irritate him since he came to this island.

Seeing that he didn't plan on saying anymore, she seemed to make up her mind. Before she could do anything, she heard his voice once again.

"If you're thinking about trying something stupid, I'd ask you to think again for your own well being." Unlike before when he was calm and collected, his irritation slipped into his voice, stopping her dead in her tracks.

He didn't bother waiting to hear what she had to say as he unlocked the door, entered and slammed it shut.

Blake stayed rooted for a few seconds in front of the door. She had heard that her father was having a few guests stay at their how. She didn't think there was anything strange or wrong with that. That was until she found out that they were human. Her curiosity got the best of her and she had to come and see for herself.

She had never set foot off menagerie so she had never encountered humans face to face. She had seen what they did to her kind, the discrimination and the alienation but she has seen all that through a screen.

This was her first interaction with a human and it was strange. From what she was told, she expected blatant hate and disgust from him but he only looked bored and indifferent. That had only changed towards the ending and it was only due to her actions…or at least what she was about to do.

She was going to scream for the guards but something told her that it wouldn't end well. He seemed not to hate faunus or her at least but she wouldn't be convinced.

Unaware of the thoughts going on through the mind of the hound cat faunus outside, he rubbed his head in irritation as he tried to focus on his gains for the day.

'If all faunus are like this, this is going to be a pain.' He calmed himself and brought out the first book he had stolen.
