General – now king – Edgar Dormer was worse than Amir had anticipated. No king was ever entirely fair but this one in particular was far from it, he truly was monstrous. He’d burnt the corpses of Lord Black and his wife. Where Amir came from, that was the proper way of treating the dead; they believed the ashes left from the body would take the soul to lands of paradise. But in Elwaira things were different. Here burning a corpse was no better than cursing it; it only meant that the soul would vanish, never finding its way to afterlife.
Amir believe in his heart that none of those things mattered, the dead would find their way to where they were supposed to go but those rituals would only affect the living. And no matter how bad a person was, they did not deserve to be disrespected after death.
