3. Motherly love

He had already seen all the memories of the body he was occupying and familiarized himself with the lifestyle of Lu Shang and how he behaved in the clan.

Though he knew that occupying this body and acting the way the previous owner did wouldn't be easy, but with time he was surely going to get used to it. Everything was going to be alright.

The only thing he didn't know about now was how to cultivate; his first move now was to learn how to cultivate and become a cultivator.

He decided to go to the clan library later and read about it. He had confidence that since he had taken over the body, he would be able to cultivate it.

He was so confident in himself that if he could avoid death, then there was nothing that could stop him from cultivating as a normal cultivator.

Lu Shang walked towards his wardrobe. There were many luxurious clothes inside with varying designs for specific occasions.

Lu Shang picked a few out of them to wear.

After getting himself ready, Lu Shang looked at himself in the mirror. He had to admit that he certainly did look like the prince of an empire. No wonder the others were so jealous.

After admiring his appearance for what seemed like eternity, he walked out of the room.

Along the way, he passed through different guards and maids; only a few of the guards and maids paid respect to him, while the rest ignored him because that was how their behavior had always been towards him; who cares if he gets angry or is unhappy about it? Nevertheless, he didn't retaliate because he had already gotten used to it.

Although the servants didn't respect Lu Shang or do according to his will, they could treat Lu Shang anyhow as they wanted when no one was around, but it was a different matter if his mother found out about it. That is why they had to maintain a respectful attitude when taking care of their young master in front of others.

Soon, he got to the room of his mother and gently knocked on the door; he didn't receive any response for some minutes, then he pushed open the door.

The door wasn't locked; it opened, and he stepped inside the room, coming face to face with his mother.

He could see that his mother's mood wasn't good, seeing tears in her eyes.

His mother quickly cleaned her eyes and feigned a smile when she realized that Lu Shang was the one who had entered the room.

Lu Shang smiled when he saw his mom and was also sad because, in his previous life, his father and mother died when he was a very young age; now, in this current life, he was opportune to have a father and mother. But his father in this current life didn't even care about him, while his mother was extremely loving and caring towards him.

"Mom, why are you sad, and why are your eyes teary?" He asked out of worry, with sadness in his voice.

"Nothing, as long as you are happy." "I am also happy," his mother said, trying to fake a smile on her face although she was not happy.

"Why are you trying to fake a smile for me?"

"You can directly tell me what is bothering you." He asked, getting closer to his mother.

Lu Shang's mother's name was Zhang Xiao, and she was from the Zhang clan in the town.

The Zhang clan was a small clan in the town and wasn't that powerful. The clan's power wasn't that influential in the town, making its existence ignored by the powerful clan in the town.

"There is no need for me to tell you; it will only make you sad if I do. I don't want you to be sad and worried over my matter." Zhang Xiao looked directly into Lu Shang's eyes while smiling.

"Okay if you say so," Lu Shang replied with a smile while looking at his mom.

"How are you doing?" His mom changed the topic to avoid any further questions from Lu Shang.

"Great! As great as ever!"

Lu Shang laughed while putting a hand behind his neck and tilting his head back before continuing, "I am thankful and happy that you love and take care of me."

"Do you have to say that? You are my son, and it's my responsibility to take good, proper care of you. Who else will take care of you if not me?" Zhang Xiao laughed out loud; her mood was beginning to lighten up.

At that time, both of them heard footsteps approaching, and then they both turned their glances toward the door and saw two maids outside of the room.

The two maids were Su Yan and Su Qing; they were twins. One was tall and slim with an oval face and black hair; the other was short and chubby with a big round face and white skin, yet they had the same profession: they were both maids for Zhang Xiao.

Both maids had on the same dress; the dress they were putting on was the uniform the maid in the Lu clan wore, yet these two did not have expressionless faces like their counterparts in the Lu clan. Both of them were good-looking people with gentle features.

Su Yan had dark brown eyes and beautiful lips, as her white teeth revealed her youthfulness.

On the other hand, Su Qing was as pretty as Su Yan; however, the differences between them were very obvious. Although Su Qing was only slightly taller than Su Yan, she had bigger hips and wider shoulders than Su Yan. She also had lighter skin than Su Yan and, darker eyelashes and eyebrows, which gave her a look of prettiness.

"Good day, her majesty," the two maids said, grinning at once when they saw Zhang Xiao.

Zhang Xiao's eyes lit up at seeing the two maids, and she smiled.

She knew that the maids cared deeply about her and looked after her well. She treated the two maids with love and care.

"Food is ready," Su Yan announced with her head down.

"Can you guys bring me and my son food to my room?" "I am not in the mood to eat at the dining hall," Zhang Xiao said.

"As you wish," Su Yan said, nodding without asking further questions.

The two left the room and soon arrived with a tray full of food and some drinks.

The food was simply good. The food had just been prepared a few moments ago, yet it still tasted fresh and smelled fragrant.

The tray came right in front of Lu Shang. It was piled high with some steamed rice mixed with various fruits and vegetables. Next to it was a tray full of fish soup.

A bowl was placed next to the plate of food, along with a pair of chopsticks. In addition, there was another dish set next to the teapot.

On top of all the trays were flowers. They were red and green water lilies and sweet oranges, two kinds of beautiful flowers Zhang Xiao loved.

Zhang Xiao and Lu Shang began eating.

"Wow, it tastes great, especially the fish soup." "You guys are good at cooking, can you tell me the secret ingredients you use in preparing this food?" Lu Shang praised while he tasted the fish soup.

He found the food delicious, more than anything he has tasted while on earth which made him amazed.

Both the two maids grinned happily and shrugged their shoulders. "We learn to cook at a very young age, so it's not surprising that we can cook so well; there are no secret ingredients we used in cooking this food," Su Qing replied.

Zhang Xiao smiled, seeing that Lu Shang was enjoying the meal. "They are the best cooks I have ever seen; enjoy your meal," she said.

Zhang Xiao put down the chopsticks she had taken and grabbed a peach from the fruit platter. It was ripe but still soft, juicy, sweet, and delicious, which was why she always loved peaches.

She didn't eat much because she wanted Lu Shang to eat until he was full since he was enjoying the food. Besides, Zhang Xiao often ate little during meals.

During the times she couldn't sleep or wasn't feeling well, Zhang Xiao would pick up a piece of bread, eat it slowly, and relax. It was not difficult for her to get used to this lifestyle.

Soon all the food was devoured by Lu Shang; there wasn't a single untouched food. He ate to his satisfaction and then topped it with wine that was brought alongside with the food.

The dishes were taken away by the maids, who brought clean towels to wipe up the dirt. After the dirty bowls were wiped off, the two maids cleaned up the place.

"Mom, I'm going to the library," Lu Shang said after some time.

"What are you going to the library to do? You have never been to the library before, and you never took interest in going, so why now?" She asked with her eyebrow slightly raised as she focused her eyes on Lu Shang.

"Mom, it's boring to be alone, so since there is nothing to do, I want to busy myself reading about the histories and legends of our continent," he answered, drawing close to his mother.

"All right, dear, be careful; stay safe," Zhang Xiao replied without finding anything suspicious in his words.

"Okay Mom," Lu Shang said with a smile, getting up and then leaving the room, not forgetting to bid his mom farewell.

Zhang Xiao got up and opened the windows. She breathed in the fresh air that blew in. The breeze was refreshing. She walked over to the dressing table near her bed and picked up the robe that lay there.
