Meeting The Squad Members

Fang's orifices shot open as his lungs kept beating up and down uncontrollably in an uneven manner making it hard for Fang to catch his breath with his body masked in sweat.

*huff* *puff* *huff*

Fang's chest contracted and expanded as he tried to catch his breath. Fang's body was wet and sticky but most importantly, it was very shaky even to the point of not being able to hold a pen. The mana in Fang's body was coursing violently in his mana circuit as if searching for something, but unable to grasp it even though it was within reach.

The violent mana circulated through his mana circuit a few times as if going around in haloes causing Fang's body to shiver in agony and his veins to pop out of his body making it seem as though they would pop at any given moment.

The agonising pain lasted for a brief period before dispersing as if it was never truly there. After the pain dispersed Fang could finally catch his breath as a familiar ring resounded in his head.

Fang felt very angry towards the system for putting him through such a hellish night and disturbing his much-deserved rest but since it was morning and even though his body was overflowing with vigour his mental state was the exact opposite.

After going through 8 hours of being treated like a punching bag by some mysterious creature that resembled himself took a heavy hit on his subconscious causing his mental condition that was already hanging by a thin thread to deteriorate at a fast pace.

The thing that made him pissed off the most was that he couldn't land a single solid blow on the shadow beast even though it was in its weakest setting. Fang wanted to argue with the system about the unfair treatment that it was giving to its host, but his mind was in no state to argue with anyone so he chose to listen to the system's advice and rest.

Fang slowly slid his eyelids apart revealing his pitch-black orifices but if someone looked deeper into his pupils they would notice a small silver dot that shone scarcely within the dark abyss that was Fang's eyes. The silver dots were originally not there in the beginning and made their first appearance after Fang's first bloodline evolution.

It was not only Fang's eyes and body that went through modifications since his unkempt black hair's tips had also turned white. All these modifications were unknown to Fang except for the changes in his body which he could not only feel, but also see.

Fang stood up and observed his body which he discovered to be in peak condition. Fang also noticed that his mental condition had improved greatly after the brief nap he took. After confirming that his condition was better than earlier, he noticed a female white wolf standing beside him startled Fang greatly.

"Maria, why are you staring at me all of a sudden? that started me you know," Fang almost got a heart attack when he saw Maria staring at him, and his body trembled slightly as he felt as though he was being stared at by a being he couldn't begin to phantom the full extent of its strength.

Maria pondered on what to say for a moment before opening her mouth, which was filled with sharp teeth, "well to tell you the truth I've been here since the moment you opened your eyes," Maria answered Fang's question as honestly as she could, but that only made Fang even more freaked out.

Maria noticed Fang's bazaar reaction and couldn't help being confused, "why are you shaking like a leaf? anyways I came here on serious business today."

Fang heard the change of tone in the latter part of her sentence and couldn't help but ask, "And what business is that?"

"It's time to introduce you to your new squad members," Maria replied to Fang's question in the sweetest voice that she could muster.

"Squad members? what are you talking about?"

"Oops! I guess I forgot to inform you beforehand."

"Oops my ass, just get on with it."

"Ok fine I'll tell you, it's like this. every male member of the clan is assigned to a squad after they awaken their mana."

"I see, so what do these squads do and which squad am I assigned to?"

"The squads go out to hunt beasts and you've been assigned to the beginner low-rank squad Reaper."

Fang was surprised by Maria's words as he followed her out of the damp cave.

Somewhere within the wolf's territory

Fang followed Maria as they chatted while they walked. The walk was a bit far but after a while, Fang saw five wolves who were standing in a group as they happily chatted with each other.

The wolves weren't trying to lower their voices so Fang could vaguely hear what they were talking about from a mile away. From small bits of words that he heard from the various wolves, he concluded that these were his squadmates.

The five wolves were gathered near a large tree that was way thicker than any other tree that fang had come across since coming to this world. When the wolves noticed Maria approaching them they could help but turn their gazes towards the creature that was walking beside her and couldn't help but wonder, "Is he our new member?"

Fang and Maria approached the wolves and stopped 3 meters away from them.

"This is Fang and he'll be joining the Reaper squad from today onwards which makes him your new squad member."

Fang observed the five white wolves that stood before him almost as if he was sizing them up, but he was not the only one who had that idea since the five wolves were also sizing him up. After sizing each other up Fang opened his mouth to introduce himself first.

"Greetings everyone, my name is Fang and I'm the latest member of the White Wolf Clan, so I hope that we can work together in the future," Fang's polite attitude made the wolves soften towards him.

"Nice to meet you brother, my name is Sato and besides me is Ito, Suzuhime, and Suzuki," Sato introduced the other white wolves one by one.

Fang noticed that Suzuhime was not a male but a female wolf unlike everyone else which startled him greatly, so he went to consult his dictionary which was Maria.

"Hey didn't you say that only the males could go out to hunt?" Maria heard Fang's question and couldn't help but find it rather humorous.

"Little Fang, there are always exceptions in this world," Although Maria's words were extremely vague Fang could somewhat understand what she meant.

Fang kept looking at his teammates as he conversed with Maria, "So does that mean that you're also an exception."

"fufufu...who knows" Maria didn't agree nor did she disagree with Fang's statement.

The five white wolves looked similar except for slight differences such as the marks under their eyelids. Sato's marks were blue, Ito's were gold, Suzuhime's were pink, and Suzuki's were black. The marks on their faces were something of a birthmark that brightens up when they use their mana.

Maria stared at everyone then pointed towards the enormous tree behind them and said, "The king has deemed that you're all too weak and after you've all healed up your first task is to put a dent on that tree behind you, and after you've completed that task you'll go out into the forest to finish what you started with that beast hybrid also all of this must be completed before the end of the first season which is in four months."

After Maria had left and his teammates were trying to attack the enormous tree, Fang decided to take another look at his status screen and check out the skills that he bought.

Fang selected the [Skill Inventory] option and after a bit of searching, he saw two skills lying in his inventory and couldn't resist the urge to laugh like a maniac.

Fang stared at his two skills for a while before exiting the [Skill Inventory] option and selecting an option that he hadn't selected previously.

Fang analysed his stats for a while as he pondered on what he should do to increase these stats, but unlike before the system, texts didn't appear this time which made his heart sink to the bottom of his stomach.

"Damn system! why must you always make things difficult for me?"
