The site of the awakening ceremony was at one of the spirit springs of the Shai clan. The Shai clan had three spirit springs, the one that people now stood on the highest part of the mountain.

Normally it would be a forbidden place for people, but in the awakening ceremony it was possible to enter the spiritual source. The awakening ceremony consisted of the mortal walking by the spiritual source as far as possible, depending on how far she walked she would have a certain degree of talent. When the mortal could no longer walk, the various Gu of Hope at the location would awaken her aperture transforming her into a Rank 1 Initial Stage Gu Master.

There were more than three hundred people in this place waiting to be tested and find out if they have the aptitude to cultivate. In Shai Yang's case he was confident of achieving at least grade C aptitude.

In the awakening ceremony walking less than ten steps meant that the person had no aptitude to become a Gu Master, ten to twenty steps he would have grade D aptitude and would have 20 to 39% primal essence in his aperture, usually these people could only achieve Rank 2 in their lifetime.

Twenty to thirty steps would mean that Master Gu had grade C aptitude, with 40 to 59% primal essence in their aperture, they generally reached Rank 3. With thirty to forty steps would be a grade B aptitude, having 60 to 79 % essence on aperture, hardly going beyond Rank 4.

Finally there were the Gu Masters with Grade A aptitude, those who walked forty to fifty paces, with 80 to 99% primal essence, those who had the potential to reach Rank 5.

Above that were the Ten Extreme Physicists with 100% Primal Essence in their aperture.

The reason Shai Yang was confident of achieving at least Grade C or maybe B aptitude was because his mother had Grade C aptitude with 56% Primitive Essence, and his father Grade B Aptitude with 72% Primitive essence , being the blood lineage one of the factors influencing fitness.

The other factor influencing fitness was the person's accumulation. But in the novel it was not explained what this accumulation was, not even the superiors of the clan knew, if they did, they would do everything to improve it and generate several A-grade skills. At this point, Shai Yang could only count on luck.

Less than a hundred people were left to try to awaken their openings when Shai Yang was called. About half had the aptitude to cultivate, while the rest would remain mortals for the rest of their lives, unless they had a chance encounter.

Shai Yang followed the Elder's instructions and entered the primordial sea. Contrary to logic he didn't sink when walking on water, but the Gu world was like that there was no logic.

Each step that Shai Yang took was like climbing a mountain, he lacked breath and his body was heavy, bathed in sweat, under the expectant and contemptuous eyes of many, Shai Yang reached the twenty-step mark. But he didn't stop, he continued until thirty steps, thirty-five, thirty-eight, forty, forty-five, when it looked like he was going to reach step number fifty he stopped at step forty-nine, the Gu of Hope had awakened his aperture.

The smile on Shai Yang's sweaty face was wide, he had surpassed his own expectations and achieved a grade A aptitude, even though it was a distant dream, an illusion, he could feel he had the potential to reach the top of Gu World.
