Upon gaining entry to Viridian forest, Kimi and her father started to wander along the path towards Pewder City.
The deep and sprawling woodland was home to many kinds of Pokémon and allowed many types of bug Pokémon to live among the trees and grass to provide them enough places to hide in to avoid predators or allow for an ambush on passersby.
The dark and shaded forest allowed for the Pokémon to ambush trainers who were passing through so there were often tasks given to reduce the numbers living there just like on route one and other locations.
The population and growth speed of the Caterpie and Weedle evolutionary routes were a major cause for alarm and often got too out of hand which made them overpopulate and forced some to be pushed to migrate to other locations.
Being in between two routes which lead to cities would cause the Pokémon to be pushed in either direction which would lead to many people being harmed and the cities property being damaged.
If the population grew too much and they were aggressive then they could pose a threat to those living within those cities so they needed to be checked regularly.
Many bug catchers or trainers hoping to challenge the Pewder gym would train within to capture new Pokémon or train.
Some with camping and survival experience even camped out there and slept in a tent overnight or for a couple of days before continuing on their journey.
In preparation for entering the forest, Kimi had already prepared antidotes and paralyse heals just in case she, her father or her Pokémon were affected by the poison, grass and bug type Pokémon.
Bellsprout was in the middle of the path so Kimi pointed forward. "Go Eevee!"
Growlithe looked a little unsatisfied but Kimi spoke calmly. "Just watch for now."
Grass And Bug types were weak to fire so it would be too easy for Growlithe to handle them but there were many kinds of different moves that were used which could pose a little threat by binding, poisoning, paralysing, and putting their opponents to sleep.
Eevee was smaller and needed the practice more than Growlithe so she was given a chance to perform.
Eevee ran forward towards the Bellsprout and hit it with tackle but the Bellsprout was still very flexible so it reduced the damage a little. "Eevee!"
Its body bent a little upon being hit but its lower half remained firmly planted in the ground, a vine came out and whipped towards Eevee who had just finished her attack while attempting to retreat to a safe distance.
Kimi gave a command. "Sand Attack!"
The dirt beneath the feet of Eevee was kicked up towards the Bellsprout and Eevee jumped to the side to avoid the vines.
The vines turned around to follow Eevee to grab onto her which came from Vine Whip being changed to Wrap.
The speed of Eevee increased as she used Quick Attack to avoid the vines grasp and came close to the Bellsprout.
Kimi could feel that the Bellsprout had an ace up its sleeve so she gave an order to retreat quickly.
Some strange spores were released and flew around the Bellsprout and travelled around with the wind.
The dirt was once again flicked towards the Bellsprout and was aimed for the eyes by Eevee before retreating to a safe distance.
Kimi observed the battle and frowned. 'This is why there is a need for ranged moves or ones which can remove such things which can cover the environment.'
The battle became one sided as Eevee was put on the defensive while she avoided the vines, stun spores and poison powders.
It was a dangerous combination of tactics which could often be used to wear down an opponent but Eevee had Kimi to direct her.
Eevee had been able to avoid being whipped, restrained, stunned and poisoned each time by making use of sand attack to flick the dirt towards the poison or spores in an attempt to push them in another direction a little or slow the spread down while using quick attack to increase her speed to escape the vines. "Eevee!"
Each time Eevee had gotten better and more natural in avoiding the attacks, Kimi continued to praise her. "Good job! Keep going!"
Although Eevee had expended a lot of energy to keep herself safe, so had the Bellsprout as it had released a lot of spores, poisons and vines to aid its attacks on Eevee.
In the end it was becoming a battle of attrition but Kimi was not satisfied with that result. "The accuracy of the attacks have lowered thanks to you getting it in the eyes with your sand attack so now we should aim to end this."
She continued to direct Eevee with the use of her aura then Eevee used quick attack to rush into a large bush to the side of the open path which allowed her to disappear into the tall grass and trees.
The Bellsprout looked around confused then its eyes laid upon Kimi and Growlithe cautiously. "Bell. Bellsprout!"
Growlithe looked over and took up a protective stance in front of Kimi which made Kimi feel a little happy and proud over the Growth of her companion.
A small figure jumped and ran quickly from a blind spot where Bellsprout was not looking and avoided the spores that were lingering around.
The wind had mostly directed the larger amount of poison and spores towards one direction which allowed for a place around the Bellsprout to be unprotected.
Eevee slammed her body into the lower half of the Bellsprout and knocked the roots from the ground.
The Bellsprout did not have time to turn around or counterattack as it was tackled down and its head had been pinned under the tiny claws of Eevee.
A Pokéball landed on the Bellsprout as Eevee jumped away which sucked it inside.
It rocked to the side a little until the indication came that Bellsprout had been caught.
The Pokedex belonging to Kimi was updated with an additional Pokémon and Eevee had been able to gain a little more experience in combat which allowed her to level up but that was not the end of the battles within the forest because that battle was just a warmup.
