"We're gonna play here for the time being and afterwards she's going to leave. Of course I'm going to accompany her on her way…, let's go Ivy."
4
We advanced to my room. I asked her to sit on the small chair. I grabbed my writing board and chalk.
"Your room is quite big."
"Oh well, It is."
"What are you going to do with it?"
"Here take this chalk. Do you have any idea what are we about to do now? "
She nodded her head left and right.
What am I asking? Of course she don't have any idea. I just handed her chalk without hinting something.
"I'm gonna test how much you've improved in your literacy skills."
I put the writing board on the small table.
"Now, you're going to write your name on it."
"That's easy."
As she replied me she began writing.
Oh, she is writing it correctly. I guess I'll ask her to write letters and numbers.
"You have improved."
"Yeah…"
"Now, write numbers from zero to nine."
"That's also easy."
She wrote them undoubtedly. That's great, that's great.
She seems to know not only letters but numbers and knows how to write them. Now it's time to see if she can do math or write four basic mathematical symbols.
"See, I can write them. It's easy."
"Yeah, I'm impressed…"
"Really?"
"Yes, you've improved a lot. Now it's time for mathematic. Do you know four basic symbols of mathematic?"
"Yeah, they are these…, right?"
She wrote all four symbols and showed to me.
"Yep, now tell me what is one plus one."
"One plus one… hmm…, maybe it's two."
"Are you sure that it is really two?"
I put a little pressure under her.
"Um…, one plus one…,"
She began observing her fingers.
"Yes I'm sure it's two."
"Correct. Now tell me what's two plus one."
"Um…, it's…"
She again began to observe her finger.
"It's three."
"What about five plus five?"
"It's, one, two, three…, …ten…, it's ten."
"Right. Now let's do subtraction, what's seven minus three?"
"Seven minus three…seven minus three…, three, four, five, six, seven…, hmm, I think it's four."
She used her fingers to calculate.
"Correct, now tell me what's nine minus six."
"Um, six, seven, eighth, nine… it's three."
"Good. Now let's do multiplication and division. Do you remember which symbol represents each of the mathematical operations?"
"Yes, multiplication is this one and division is this one."
She said as she pointed out it to me.
"Correct. Now I'll teach you super easy way to understand what is multiplication. Observe carefully."
I cleaned the board and wrote one, multiplication symbol and two.
I asked her to write two, multiplication symbol and three.
"What this line means is to add the number 'one' two times. Like one plus one. However this line is different. It's says to add the number 'two' three times like two plus two plus two. So do you understand the concept of multiplication?"
"I'm not sure. If I want one to multiplied by two, I've to add the number 'one' two times which is one plus one and the result is two, right?"
"Yeah you're right and what about the second one?"
"Second one…, I've to add two three times. Two plus two plus two is…, um…, it's… six, yeah six."
She used her fingers every time.
"Correct, I'm impressed."
"Now tell me what this line means?"
I cleaned the board and wrote three, multiplication sign and three.
"It's mean to add the number 'three' three times, isn't it?"
"Yeah, and the answer is?"
"Um…, it's…, it's nine."
"Correct. Now let's do some divisions."
I wrote four, division symbol and two on the board after cleaning it.
"This line says four is divided by two and what it actually means is to find how many two can be added so that the result is four. Did you get that?"
She nodded left right.
"Okay let me show you an example."
"Here four is divided by two means how many times the number 'two' can be added to get the number 'four' as a result."
"I got it."
"Huh!, really?"
She really got that this fast. I'm impressed by her learning speed.
"Yes."
"So the answer for this is?"
"It's two."
"What about six divided by three?"
"Six divided by two…, it's three."
"Correct."
"Once again, nine is divided by three means?"
"It means to found out how many time we can add the number three so that the result will be equal to the number 'nine'."
"Correct. Now tell me what's six minus three?"
"It's…, three."
"And four plus two?"
"It's…six."
"What about eight divided by four?"
'Eight divided by four, four plus four is eight so it means the number four is used two times so two is the answer."
"Good."
"What about four multiplied by two?"
"Four multiplied by two, it's…eight."
"Yes, correct… You surprised me really. Multiplication and division is harder to learn but you learnt it instantly."
She's really learns fast. I guess I'll start teaching her addition and subtraction of more than two numbers later after some times.
"Now let's start testing your reading skills."
"Reading?"
"Yeah…, can you read what's written on its cover?"
I showed her my magic book.
Wow, she is reading it slowly but correctly. I guess she'll be able to read the book after few months.
"Impressive. You must have worked really hard."
"Of course. I always studied and practiced what you taught me when I got back home after being with you and I asked my parents about things that I didn't understand. They help me a lot in my studies."
As she nodded she began.
"That's good. Let's go outside."
We headed outside. I wanted to see how much she have improved in her magic since when she started.
We're at yard but how am I gonna inspect her magic skills? Maybe I should just ask her about it.
Wait I got it.
"Let's play a game. We'll use magic to create water ball and try to hit each other's while avoiding each attacks. But remember use environment friendly attacks or spell and you can also use snow ball but remember to make it friendly for surroundings, you got it?"
"Yeah…"
She nodded.
"Then let's get started. You stay here, ok?"
She nodded up and down.
I made some distance between us.
I remembered her teaching how to attack and make each attacks less effective and weak or more effective and powerful.
Determining its size and speed and impact helps to alter spell's characteristics. For example, if she creates water ball and make its size small and determines its impact and speed then it's going to effect its attributes. Like going flying slowly or fast, destroying whatever it lands on or dampen it without causing any damage.
Oh wait, I can activate magic without using any chants but she can't. That's really unfair. If she thinks it as learning process then it's ok. That way she'll understand how important incantation-less method is.
We're facing each other ready to attack or dodge.
"Our game will continue till i you hit me or got hit by me. You can get close but remember there's high chance of getting hit by me or you hitting me so be cautious about it. You can use various other environmental friendly magic also run around dodging so don't hold back, okay?"
I yelled.
"Okay."
"So, when I say begin we'll start playing, got that?"
"Yeah."
She nodded.
I said the word "begin" and we started attacking each other with water and snow ball.
At first her attacks were easy to dodge. So I made my attack real easy. She was dodging it effortlessly.
Afterwards her attacks got better. It was neither easy or hard to dodge. It was perfect for training. I made my attacks similar to her but a little easier.
Later she started using snow and water balls randomly. Her attacks got much better.
It's time to remind her how important is chant-less method to cast magic.
I rapidly fired water and snow ball towards her.
She dodged all my attacks easily.
She is really good at dodging. She's gonna be a difficult opponent to face in the future.
I continued attacking her giving her zero chance to attack back. Since she'd to chant every time to activate, she have no other choice but to dodge and after while I stopped my attacks.
"Why don't we take some rest. I'm gonna teach you something new while we take break."
"Yeah."
I approached to her. She was catching her breath.
I created a small target looking figure.
"What are you doing?"
Oh she caught her breath already.
"It's time."
"It's time?"
"Yeah it's time."
"I'm gonna teach you chant-less method to use magic."
"Really!"
"Yes…, do you the remember the feeling when you first created water ball on your hand?"
"Yes, it felt like my blood was burning as it flowed throughout my veins and my body suddenly got warm. And when the water ball started to appear on my hand warmth from my body slowly flowed to my hand and disappeared from my hand. It felt like as if warmth was transferring into water."
"Right, now what you've to do to successfully perform chant-less method to use magic is to feel the exact same sensation and use your imagination to create water ball…, now try it."
I made a water roughly sphere in shape as I spoke and shot it out to the target I created earlier.
"Oh…"
