The hourglass Zhang Mei Xing always saw every time she closed her eyes stayed there in her subconscious, its sand all yet to fall down.
Around this time, she had already accepted that she was made a spectator for the life of the girl called Xiang Lixin, that same girl begging the gorgeous, heartless man in that opulent office to not break off their marriage agreement.
Zhang Mei Xing learned that the two were engaged since young by their parents. Both were from big, rich, and influential families. In terms of appearance, they were a match made in heaven. The background was almost the same too, albeit Song Heng's family occupied a slightly higher standing than the Xiangs.
Time passed slowly and the girl turned into a famous socialite while the boy became a known and feared CEO.
Perhaps because the lady grew up sheltered, groomed with the thought that Song Heng would be her future husband, she had become too observant of him, and conscious of his every action. Without her knowing the exact date or reason, she had learned to love the guy.
Sadly, her love was not reciprocated.
Who Song Heng wanted was not her, but her beautiful, elegant, and sickly younger sister. Unlike Xiang Lixin who only fell for him after some time, he had been smitten with Xiang Lixin's half-sister from the moment he laid eyes on her. If there was one thing the two shared similarities with, it was their devotion to their loved ones.
And well, actually Song Heng suited the half-sister of Xiang Lixin more since both of them were like-minded and scheming people.
Zhang Mei Xing was only a bystander, and her understanding of things was limited to what she saw since she appeared in this strange world. She was not clear about the details of their past. But she knew the ending.
Xiang Lixin was a girl who was arrogant and proud, but without enough wits to back it up. She ended up thrown aside by her fiancé who was later revealed to be in a hidden relationship with her sister. The half-sister wanted not only her man but also the entirety of the Xiang family. The man wanted to control two great families, to become more powerful and influential.
Xiang Lixin's mother died from the schemes of her half-sister and her father's mistress. From here, she lost her greatest supporter.
Later, drugs were found in the girl's dwelling place, so her other family members viewed her as the Xiangs' disgrace. The photos of her appearing in shady places reported being prostitution dens or where unspeakable things usually took place worsened her reputation. Several more similar events happened, which resulted in her getting disowned. And without the halo of her family, began her rapid fall.
So why did everything seem to have slipped away from her hands?
It was at the end of her short life, after a car purposely collided with her car one night that she drank her sorrows away, that she learned what went wrong with her life.
Song Heng accompanied Xiang Lixin's half-sister on the site of the explosion and enlightened the girl about everything.
From the beginning, she had been used and manipulated.
From the beginning, she was doomed to be betrayed.
And now, her life had ended.
…
Zhang Mei Xing sighed after she finished watching the downfall of the girl called Xiang Lixin. It was such a short span of time, a mere month. But surprisingly that was all needed to see how the world turned against a proud girl whose only sin was being too trusting.
With all the facts laid out before Zhang Mei Xing, there was no denying that the woman was the victim. She was schemed against by her half-sister, her fiance, and perhaps, even her own father. The friends she thought would extend help to her avoided her. Not only did they ignore her plights, they even talked behind her back, furthering the smelly reputation forced upon her. Even the kindest among these 'friends' was only someone with a conscience to not join others in speaking ill against her.
'How pitiful.'
'I hope the guide also takes pity on her and allows her to reincarnate into a better life.'
Such thoughts crossed Zhang Mei Xing's mind several times as her heart became filled with nothing but sorrow for the girl.
It took quite a while to extricate herself from the emotions building up inside her.
lt was like she had watched a movie and the actors were so excellent so she was so touched and distraught for their sake.
Unfortunately, Xiang Lixin's case was not a movie, it was her real world.
After a few minutes of careful pondering, she realized Xiang Lixin seemed to be the type that mostly appeared in CEO+villainess reborn stories.
Of course, fiction was fiction and reality was reality. But since the guide flashed this person's memories to her, it should mean this lady Xiang had a good chance of being selected for a test, no?
A few moments later, Zhang Mei Xing stopped thinking about the tragic life of somebody else and thought about her own circumstances.
'So when can I return to my real body?'
In all honesty, her situation did not seem that good. After all, for an inexplicable reason, she suddenly found herself… still in the same plane, appearing intangible and invisible to all, like a wandering spirit.
Fine, there was no threat to her existence. But now what she should do?
She grimaced. 'Should I have cried hard for that woman so the guide would find me merciful, kind-hearted, and emphatic?'
The girl was simply not liking her puzzling state where she had no idea if she was still a human or already a ghost.
But not long after, an answer came to her.
It was Xiang Lixin's soul, with blank eyes that suggested her mind was elsewhere, heart torn into innumerable pieces.
Zhang Mei Xing felt a chill behind her back due to the fact that this female ghost seemed to have purposely found her.
'Shocks! How did she locate me?'
But then while she was still in shock digesting this, a booming voice just suddenly rang inside her mind, heavenly-like and commanding.
"Guide-in-Waiting 102597 Zhang Mei Xing."
'Eh?' Her body froze in the air. Her mind seemed to have stopped working the moment she heard her name and her birthdate being mentioned alongside the word 'guide'.
It was just that hard to process whether she was hallucinating or hearing things only crazy people would. Zhang Mei Xing shrank in fear with her eyes swimming around in hopes the one of finding who just spoke to her.
"Receive the decree pass down by the Holy Temple of Reincarnation." Yet these words seemed to be just an appetizer for the shock the next sentences would bring to her.
"Trainee Guide 102597 Zhang Mei Xing!" Her pupils involuntarily dilated.
"You're done viewing the last few fragments of the examinee's memories and the examinee's soul is also currently in front of you."
"You are now to oversee the test for Examinee Xiang Lixin!"
"Accept the decree!"
Without fully understanding what she just heard, Zhang Mei Xing's body shivered. She shook her head madly, and wondered again if an evil spirit was playing a prank on her.
What guide? What trainee? What decree?
Did it think it was funny to be made fun of?
The girl had yet to process everything she heard, and so before she knew it, she had already blurted out, somewhat angrily, "Just which drunk guide or god is messing with me? Huh?"
