Sword-wielding (2)

"What the hell are you saying?!" The teacher asked with a yell, making the others a little frightened.

"I'm only saying the truth, I overheard the Dean having a conversation with the Lord of the Northern continent. The Western continent's Lord announced the sudden raid to them at the Lordship Council meetings," the newborn said, his face completely sincere.

"This is strange... Does this mean that the monsters break down the walls of their Academy?"

"I—I don't really know sir, I just heard a little from the conversation," the newborn said.

Seth who was standing next to Master Den was not so surprised. Actually, he remembered that it was his plot. Curling the right side of his lips, Seth spoke inwardly:

'That's not over, the Eastern continent is also going to announce an Airship crash on the Moon Day. Actually, that's no much of a misery, how about a large number of newborns dying in the Menace Isle due to the vengeful actions of the well-grown Unicorns.'

After this thought, Seth cursed again:

'Hey, you fool Seth... Don't pray it to come through. It can be stopped! Yeah, It can.'

"Get your asses in here and join the lecture before I lose it!' the teacher yelled at the punished newborns, causing them to run swiftly toward the Sword-wielding spot.

'This is strange.'

The teacher thought with a confused look.

"Let's continue..."

The teacher grabbed the sword again and placed it into the fire once again. This time, they didn't wait for so long because the sword would only get heated to 1420° Fahrenheit.

Seth's concentration remained at its actual stance: not-so-attentive. His pale face was fixed on Master Den whose face had suddenly changed after hearing the news.

'Don't panic, nothing is going to happen to the Northern continent's Dormant Academy,' Seth thought.

Shortly, Master Den withdrew the sword from the fire and placed it into the short tank of water on the right side of the tank of fire.

"Remember, if you are not fast in quenching the heated steel, your sword won't be as hard as you want it," the teacher lectured.

Everyone nodded in unison excluding Seth.

After the heat had been quenched, Master Den ordered Seth to provide the Belt Sander which was placed in front of him. Seth quickly moved the item to Master Den at a fast pace, not wanting to have a fault in his service as the Class Head.

"This step is called Sanding. It is a process whereby the swordsmith uses the Belt Sander to whip off the particles on the sword," Master Den lectured.

Everyone nodded in unicorn again except for Class Head Seth.

Moments after sanding the sword, the teacher moved a little bit to face the sharpener. He positioned the cutting edges of the sword at the sharpening sides and switched on the sharpener.

Suddenly, the sword began to get sharpened, more sharp than the actual state.

Seth was watching.

However, it seems like the other classes were done with their Sword-wielding lecture. The noise at the passageway could prove the assumption.

'I'm sure you are a slow teacher... We wouldn't have much time to train today,' Seth thought angrily and clenched his fist slightly.

Suddenly and surprisingly, Master Den placed the sword into the fire again. This time, it only took a moment before he withdrew it and dipped it into the opened tank of cold water.

"At this last moment, you have to be careful so that you won't ruin your long-time work. You shouldn't cool the sword to a very cold state... A room temperature would do okay?"

"Yes Master!" the newborns answered.

Seth did not.

"Now, we are going to make the hilt. For me, it's going to be leather-made. However, you can use a tangible metal if you would prefer that... It's not a problem," the teacher assured and continued, "but make sure you don't mess things up by not making it tight enough. A naked sword's handle is harsh to palms, and it can totally distract you from defending yourself in a battle."

Everyone nodded this time.

After speaking, the teacher grasps a yard of thick sand-brown leather and cuts it into two parts. After cutting, he reshaped the leather to suit the size of a normal sword's hilt.

This step was one of the most important steps in Sword-wielding, so none of the newborns would want to miss a process — not that they really wanted to make their hilts leather-made.

Seth, somehow, started feeling sleepy. What the heck! He was just tired of watching the teacher take different steps just to create a sword. Was this how swords were really made? Actually, the fool outlined that in the Sword-wielding scene in chapter 20 and 21. However, he made a research about the procedures, and that conveyed a relief after recalling that moment.

Soon, Master Den began to attach the leather to the sword handle section. His veins suddenly turned huge and green as he huddled both leathers to the steel.

After ensuring that the leather was well fixed, he took the scroll nail — which was as thin as a pin — and pieced them at different sides of the hilt. Soon, the Sword-wielding lecture was finally completed.

Nice!

Glancing at the wall clock by the side and studying it, Master Den grinned and uttered:

"Uhh, that was somewhat slow but I promise that none of you would have the worst of swords after making yours. That's a promise, don't hesitate."

The newborns smiled sweetly, and suddenly a round of applause started from nowhere... Soon, it began to spread until he reached Seth's spot.

Not trying to hesitate, seeing Ivy clapping, Seth couldn't help but join the clapping.

He cursed inwardly though:

'When will you guys realize that we are unlucky to be in Class B? When?!'

*******

After the teacher had told them to join the other newborns in the training field, Seth left without even looking back. He was rude, he knows, but he can't help but keep being a rude chap.

Suddenly — Seth hasn't walked quite long — a female voice called from behind.

It was Ivy.

"Hey Seth, you didn't even say a word to me before leaving."

Seth shrugged.

"Common, let's train together."
