(Between Chapter 6 and 7) (Canon)
[??? POV]
Waking up today I thought it was going to be a normal day, well a normal day in Gotham that is. After waking up and eating breakfast with my wife, I kissed my sleeping 5 year old daughter and went off to work.
My daughter had turned 5 this year and would most likely attend first grade, starting this upcoming September. It may be a bit overprotective and worrying sometimes but it was understandable, after all we live in Gotham. But then again, she's also one of the reasons I wake up every morning and go to work, trying to make Gotham better a little bit at a time.
Arriving at the GCPD I was informed about a strange case, a criminal was turning himself in and seemed to be panicked, apparently his friend had been stabbed and was bleeding out, he only had an hour until he bleed out. Disregarding how he knew, he would bleed out in an hour, a criminal turning themselves in wasn't exactly rare, it wasn't common, but it wasn't unheard of. The thing that was strange was an aspect of the call, apparently the criminal was frozen in ice.
Recently, a new vigilante, other than batman, had emerged and seemed to have the ability to control ice, somehow. But he was relatively new and at this point only targeted muggers, rapist, and other small time criminals in the back alleys of Gotham.
Another trend of his would be the fact, he restrains a criminal in ice and takes out their phone and leaves them with the only way of getting out being, turning themselves in. Some of the guys working on the police hotline, started calling them ghost calls because of the vigilante's appearance.
His crime fighting record followed a pattern, all the cases involving him met three different criteria; One he would usually only fight crime at night. Two he seemed to target only armed individuals. Third he never caused any bodily or sever harm, in fact he would end the fight by quickly incasing the other party in ice with his first move, because of this he was quite popular with kids and the public had quite a good opinion of him on top of that.
It was nice having someone who didn't cause any unnecessary injuries in a bat costume, but he was still standing on the wrong side of the law. Though in their defense most of the GCPD were as big a criminal as the ones we tried to keep off the streets. Many where being paid off or working under a gang leader or businessman's thumb.
Though the case today was a bit different today, apparently this new vigilante had broken his pattern, one of the men were stabbed. If this was the case, the new vigilante would be wanted under attempted murder instead of just assault.
Grabbing my coat, I hopped into a cruiser and had another officer drive us their, as I called for any available cruisers to reach and secure the area. I called for an ambulance to also be ready for 1 to 3 potentially fatally injured men.
Reaching the site, I quickly had my officers close down the area, and inspected the crime scene. There I found two men shivering against the wall half incased in ice and another man on the ground with a frozen stab wound in his chest. The crime scene wasn't just bizarre it was superhuman, deciding on a plan of action, I got my men to go to work.
''Get those men off that wall in take them into custody! I want them warmed up and ready for questioning!'' I gave orders and had my men ready to secure the suspects.
''Yes commissioner!'' Two officers replied and went over to try and melt the ice.
''Also officers Paul and Blart, secure the area and make sure no one but the paramedics get in or out!''
''''Understood'''' Two officers replied in unison.
Examining the stabbed man lying on the floor, I examined the man's wound, the ice seemed to have been used to seal the wound rather than cause it. Judging by the size of it, it wasn't that deep... but could still cause him to bleed out.
Examining the rest of his body, I turned to his arm. It seemed to have a bite mark. For this much damage to be done, the bite must of been really deep. Turning my head to the opposite ally wall, I looked for any clues, and their and behold, I found a few long strands of red hair.
Suddenly this case was looking a lot more simple. Turning my head to the other men still frozen in the wall, I noticed their pants unbuckled and sloppily put on. Realizing something I ordered to two officers trying to get them out.
''Both of you stop what your doing!'' I yelled at the other two officers, who confusedly looked at each other and decided to just stay in place.
Turning my head I started searching for something, there a few meters away from the wounded man was a knife covered in slight bits of blood.
Suddenly a picture formed in my head, these three men had tried to assault a red-haired women. One man most likely held her at knife point, the woman then bit down in the man's hand and caused the knife to fall. In a panic she picked up the weapon and the man most likely attacked in a frenzy, getting stabbed in the process. It looks like after that, the vigilante arrived and incapacitated the other two men and stabilized the other man.
After going through the scenario, I shook my head and let out a sigh. Having an officer take pictures of the crime scene, I then turning back to the knife and put on a glove and picked it up, careful of not ruining any fingertips. Placing the knife in a sealed bag and handing it to on of my officers.
''Take this to the forensic department and see if we can get a fingerprint. Also see if you can get a DNA match for this hair strand.'' I told the officer.
He nodded and horridly took both back bags of evidence and rushed to his cruiser.
Turning back around to the two officers I had stopped I continued giving orders, after you get them out, detain them under charges of suspected sexual assault and run a background check on any criminal activities involving them.
They quickly nodded and went back to getting the two men out of the ice, the two men still restrained in ice, faces changed into distraught ones. They most likely did have a criminal history and this would probably be a repeat offence.
Sighing, I lit a cigarette and took a deep inhale, I had promised to quite smoking after my daughter was born, but even I sometimes need a cheat day.
Blowing out a puff of smoke, I once again sighed.
''The media will be all over this... again.'' I mumbled as the paramedics arrived.
