Chapter 270

Vorbuk did not dream much since he had entered this world. In fact it could be considered foreign to him. Maybe it was due to the fact that his species was one that was meant to become bound to another. Companions were known to help guide and protect the ones they became bound to. It was almost as if they shared in the dreams of those they gave their souls to. He was uncertain why but he had come to accept that he could not dream at night when he slept.

Perhaps that was why he understood the moment he looked around. His consciousness had slipped into a dream. It was a beautiful forest that seemed familiar to him at a glance. Was it the place he had first awoken to see in this world? The sound of a familiar clear water river could be heard off in the distance.

"What is going on..?" The wolf flicked his ears back as he glanced at his surroundings carefully. He felt as if he should be on guard against something. However he could not understand what put him at unease.

[ WARNING ! ]

The bold red word spammed his vision. Vorbuk felt sick to his stomach the more the word clouded his eyes. Why was the system acting up now?

"What is wrong with you now?" Vorbuk growled in annoyance.

[ Threat Detected ]

[ Someone is attempting to invade your dreams ]

"What are you talking about?" Vorbuk could not understand what the system meant. Someone had never tried to invade his dream realm before. It was something that happened to Prince Leo on occasion. Yet the prince had never spoken to the wolf about what happened to him during the night.

[ They are someone with the dream walker ability.. They are attempting to invade your dream realm]

[ WARNING ! ]

The bold red word clouded his vision once again as the wolf struggled to calm his mindset. It was hard to understand if the system was helping him or trying to make him sick. Snapping his jaws the wolf let out a fierce growling bark.

The wolf's voice deepened as he kept glancing around, "If you keep spamming me with the warning I do not care if you turn out to really be a god because I will kill you myself."

[ ... ]

The system calmed down at his words before continuing.

[ Attempting to prevent invasion ]

[ Sensing usable object... Will host give permission to merge with object? ]

"Object? What are you talking about?" Vorbuk wanted more information.

[ There is not much time. Will host give permission to merge with the pure spirit stone? ]

"Yes," Vorbuk paused for a moment before continuing, "Pure Spirit Stone?"

A white light began to envelope around the wolf. He could not help but glance over himself and the dream realm around him. The white light was spreading and covering the whole area in a heavy white fog. Heat burning throughout his body from the inside out so heavy that his body in the real world could be felt getting extremely hot. In a matter of seconds that heat burst downward into a deep chill.

Vorbuk could not stop himself from breathing heavily as he stumbled back and forth, "Wh-WHat the hell are you doing to me??!"

[ Please endure the merge with the stone. It will be beneficial to you in the future. ]

"You-!" Vorbuk wanted to swear at the system more then ever before. It was in that moment that things started to change.

That uncomfortable feeling that he once had began to feel almost soothing. It felt like something deep inside his soul was breaking free. Darkness from deep within himself began to fight back against the pure light that was trying to consume him. He could feel his own mana fighting back with everything it could.

No, perhaps it's not simply protecting me. Vorbuk thought to himself as he watched.

It was more correct to say the darkness wanted to swallow up that pure light element. Consuming it with everything it had. The more it consumed the more at ease the wolf felt. Darkness that was terrifying before could only be considered a nightmare. Now when he felt the dark element within himself it felt clean.

The more the darkness ate the pure light it became purer in return. As the system guided him to merge with the stone he carried close from Zoe and the Priestess, Mai, he could feel his mana purifying. It was a strange and yet exhilarating feeling.

[ Merge Complete ]

[ Unique Skill Gained: Spirit Sense ]

[ Host can now converse with the spirits ]

Vorbuk turned his head to look at his shadow fur. The dark shadow like fur that gave off and aura as if it was flames seemed darker. Almost as if the shadows were purified and cleansed his body. He could only imagine how the others would react in the real world if his body had the same changes. The red guardians jewel on his forehead had gained a smaller red jewel just below both his eyes.

Those jewels must be the ones that held his new skill. Were they by his eyes because they had something to do with his skill?

Whoooooshhhh!

A gust of wind blew through the area around Vorbuk as he stood there. His fur blowing in the breeze as he watched black fog slowly fade out from his body and take shape in front of him. The more the shape solidified in front of him the more his body began to shake where it stood.

Vorbuk could not make out the face of the one who stood in front of him. They seemed to use some sort of magic in order to hide their face from him but he recognized them almost instinctively, "You really are a god. Are you the one who keeps talking to me through the system?"

"Invalid." The voice spoke to him from the blurred figure before him, "Who I am does not matter. I am the one who indeed brought you here to this world."

"Why would you bring me here? What was your purpose?!" Vorbuk felt all his bottled frustration with the gods burst forth from him. He wanted answers even if he had to fear angering the god that stood before him at that moment.

The god did not get angry with Vorbuk and instead simply shook his head as he turned away from him to speak further, "This world is dying. If Chynir is allowed to complete his goals there will be no more continent and the world may very well see its end."

"You're a god so why don't you simply step in yourself?" Vorbuk asked him.

"It is not that simple. I can not take his life even if I wished to do so myself." The god answered him.

Vorbuk swallowed before asking, "You want to use me?"

"There are laws to creation and laws to the way of life. Can you say I have taken anything from you? Your old life was one of misery was it not?" The god stopped and looked at Vorbuk as stumbled to respond before adding on before the wolf could retort to him, "You have seen the dark side of life as well as the beauty it has to offer. Chynir was a child that only ever knew heartache and betrayal. I hope you are ready for what is to come, ~~~"

"What did you-?" Vorbuk felt like he had heard the person speak a name he had not heard for a long time. No it was a name that only those in his previous life would know.

Was it because they were a god? Why were they calling out that old name?

"You have others waiting for you," The god said as a gust of wind blew past them once more, "it's time for you to wake up."
