Chapter 147

A large portion of land was swept away by a sea of flame. Burning much of the earth and trees to charred wood and ash. The flames gave the area a golden lighting that brightened up the surroundings in the darkness of the night.

From above them the lightning flickered across the sky. It was crackling and flashing keeping them away that Chynir was still around. No matter how powerful Bredret's flames were they could not match up to the god's might.

"Incoming!" Daryl shouted as he kept watch on the sky.

"Eh?" Zoe glanced up where Daryl was watching and saw the lightning running wild.

Twisting her body around carefully so that she could reach her hands out towards the sky she left her balance on the dragon to her faith in Daryl. She knew that he would never let her fall. Holding her focus to her mana without hesitation she sent her barrier out above everyone.

She could see what Daryl was worried about coming straight towards them. There was no time for her to worry about other things. A golden light barrier spread out above blocking the lightning covered sky.

That barrier was hovered there as lightning began to strike down at them. It felt like the heavens were angry.

Bam!

One bolt of lightning struck the barrier. Crackling electricity running along the barrier as if it was trying to devour the shield that protected them.

Bam! Bam!

Another strike was followed by a next. They continued to strike down at the barrier with an electrifying brute force. Every time they struck the barrier Zoe's body would shudder. It was hard for her state to remain stable against such a violent power.

"Zoe, are you alright?" Daryl grit his teeth as he felt her body shaking. "Bredret!"

"I know!" Bredret could sense the danger Zoe was in. It was hard for him to not be away of the power behind the lightning. The dragon swerved from one side in the sky to another trying to avoid the lightning. His flame had to be cut short in order to avoid the lightning as much as possible. If Zoe's barrier shattered the others would be at risk including himself.

As the flames in the sky cleared up they could see Chynir floating in place. The god had not moved an inch among the blazing fire. His black clothes and clean look seemed as if the fire had not even grazed him. Smiling among the golden light in the night his hand swerved in the air. He was driving the lightning to attack them.

Twitch. Bam!

Every time his finger slightly twitched another bolt of lightning would strike down at their barrier.

"Heh." Chynir smirked as a shadow cast over his face.

'Stop.'

A cold and stern voice echoed in Bredret's mind. His entire body shuddered as his body reacted against his will. Coming to a halt in mid air Bredret's eyes stared in the direction of Chynir.

God's Authority was something they had over dragons. Not even Bredret was immune to the authority a god held.

"How immature of you to think you can stand a chance. I find it amusing. However I know something more enjoyable." Chynir's smirk never left his face as a twisted idea in his mind had him filled with joy.

'Kill them.' 'Kill them.' 'Kill them.' 'Kill them.'

The cold voice echoed in Bredret's might like a haunting ghost. No matter how much he tried to react he could not move. His body was not in his control!

"Bredret? What are you doing?" Prince Leo asked the shuddering dragon. He could feel the dragons reaction had become strange.

"Shit! We have to get away from Bredret, now!" Johan Lovette was the one who shouted as soon as he realized what was going on. After his years of servitude to the gods he was well aware of the effect of their authority over the dragons in the mortal realm. Bredret of course would not be an exception to Chynir's authority if he used it! "We have to get down now!"

"What's going on with Bredret?" The prince asked because he had never seen a dragon being controlled by a god before.

"Chynir's using his authority over Bredret! He wont be able to go against a gods commands." Johan Lovette began to look around them. They were still in the sky. Distance was something they had to put between themselves and Bredret as soon as possible. He could feel the dragon trying to struggle against Chynir's authority but that would be impossible.

"What do we do?" Leo asked while understanding they were in a bad situation. They had intended to only stall until another god showed up. In the end Bredret being a dragon only gave the god a chance to turn Bredret against their own group. Guilt filled his chest the more he felt as if they fed Bredret to Chynir unknowingly.

"We jump." Johan said bluntly.

"What?" Several of them asked at the same time.

"As I said. We jump." Johan repeated himself as he opened his umbrella.

A gust of wind wrapped around himself and spread out wide. Although he could not fly at the very least he could help slow the fall. On the ground they were still being followed by the faolan so they would need to avoid as much risk as possible.

"After me just follow me down." Johan said confidently as he left no time for others to refute him.

Diving off of the dragon with his umbrella open and firm in his hand he cast his wind out above him. Every time one of the others jumped down they could feel the wind wrapping around them and pushing up against them. It felt as if the wind was trying to protect them against their rough decent to the ground.

'Kill them.' 'Kill them.' 'Kill them.' 'Kill them.'

The voice echoed more loudly in Bredret's mind as his golden eyes glowed brightly. A loud bellow in his chest brought itself to a loud roar. He could feel the others leaving him.

Sadness. Was he sad that they left him behind? Maybe he was and it felt strange. He had never felt sad over another mortal other than his beloved, Celeste.

Thankful. Yes, he was also thankful that they left him behind. He knew he had lost himself to the gods authority. The dragon was well aware that he could not stop himself against the authority of the god.

"Bredret.." The dragon heard a soft and loving voice echo in his ears. He knew he was hearing things again but in the corner of his eye he could still see the worried look on Celeste's face. There was nothing he could do for her. At the moment he could not even look at her because his body had lost control of itself.

Bredret found himself staring downward at his group as they all roughly landed on the ground one by one. He could see them running for their life and he felt a heavy weight on his heart that he could not understand. Watching them run as his body roared. From his back he could feel Chynir's cold and heavy presence as the god landed on him. Standing still on the dragon's back as if he had become his personal mount.

The dragon began his hunt as he dove towards the ground after them.
