Chapter 100

Vorbuk sat on the floor beside Daryl. The man had several books placed across a long table to help him concentrate. Taking all the knowledge from his own experiences along with what he knew from the books he taught Vorbuk everything that came to mind. Learning everything was not something that could be done overnight so the man did his best in order to personally teach what felt necessary for the time being. Regardless of how much he shortened the lessons hours still passed by while Daryl went on.

There was no topic too small or too large for Vorbuk as he listened. He wanted to know everything he could. Even when Daryl gave him simple understandings on how differently laws could vary upon the twelve kingdoms on the continent Vorbuk's attention did not waver.

"Among the twelve kingdom's the symbol of a royal family's bloodline is the one that stands strong for the kingdom above all else. The symbol of the royal family for Cista Kingdom is that of a phoenix. They are extremely rare, even more so then dragons. Rarely showing themselves to others nobody knows whether they have gone extinct or simply choose to remain hidden. Their breeding rate is even lower then a dragon so their numbers are expected to be drastically small." Daryl's words caught Vorbuk's interest. He had always been fond of such creatures in his previous life. It made him curious what they would look like in this one where they really were known to exist and not just within the pages of a storybook.

[ Phoenix are powerful birdlike beasts. Their bodies burn only the purest level of flame resulting in their flames color to burn blue. ]

A calm description of the beast was sent to Vorbuk from the system in his head. The more he heard about the creature the more he wanted to see one in action.

"Cista Kingdom worships them because they are known to be peaceful creatures. They rarely attack others and prefer their solitude and peace according to history.." Daryl paused as he thought deeply.

Glancing to the wolf he could see the determination to hear more about the stories this man could come up with. It felt almost like an adult telling old stories to a child. Though inside Vorbuk had lived a life long enough to surpass the man who was telling him these things.

"The symbol of Cadirade that Leo wishes to protect.. it's symbol is a horse. The kings throughout history were known to take to the battlefield personally. It's said many of them gave their lives on the field while riding into battle on their steeds. Resulting in a valiant steed becoming the symbol of Cadirade due to the king's will to sacrifice themselves for their people."

Daryl slowly slid a book towards the wolf that showed the various symbols for the kingdoms. They were the symbols of royal families throughout history. Some of them changed while others remained inherited throughout generations.

"If we are going to Theapan next, however, we will be heading into a kingdom ruled by werewolves. You could say their symbol is a wolf for their kingdom. The king is known to be a heartless brute and they are a location for black market dealers to reside almost openly because the king does nothing to stop the shady dealings within his own territory..."

While listening to those words from Daryl as he went into talking about the Theapan Kingdom the wolf's attention hung firm to every word spoken. It was unknown to them both how much time was passing by as Daryl spoke. The more Daryl went on he could see Vorbuk beginning to fall asleep as the night crept upon them. It did not take long for his body to feel heavy til his eyes could no longer remain open.

Standing up he paced himself over to the wolf and knelt down. His hand carefully caressing the fur of the beast's neck. He did not know why the wolf had taken to the prince or why the beast would refuse to become a companion to someone he was still so willing to follow. The more he watched everyone in the group the more Daryl felt like he was becoming like a mother hen to them all. It gave him the chills when the thought crossed his mind. Yet he could not completely say he disliked the fact. Could there ever be someone who truly disliked feeling needed by others?

"Do you dislike what you are that much? It's like your trying to run from what you really are.. working so hard to step foot into the world of humans when you are still so desperate to avoid what you are." Daryl thought out loud as he continued to pet the beast slow and careful not to wake him.

He knew the wolf did not like to be touched by others. With it fast asleep on the floor he could not help but take the opportunity to stroke the fur of the beast that was always around them. There were so many strange things about the beast that followed their group.

Vorbuk never tried to hide his personality because he did not consider what others would think of him. As long as he was safe and comfortable in his life it was never about hiding what he was. He would never directly scream to the world that he was reborn from another world but he was not the sort of person to pretend to be ignorant of human knowledge. His personality and knowledge exceeding that of a normal wolf was something that would easily draw the attention of others.

Daryl was not sure where Vorbuk got his unique personality. It was something he was unaware of just like everyone else. When he thought about how easily the wolf could grasp the attention of another it made him worried how things would turn out in the future. The stronger Vorbuk grew the more risk it involved on his life. Many people if they became aware of him would eventually want to claim him as their own companion.

How long can he really hold out without accepting to become someone's companion? If the wrong person forces him to become their companion beast it will get dangerous later.. Daryl pondered his thoughts on the matter. He respected Vorbuk's choice to refuse a mark to become a companion pet to another. What bothered him was the risk it put on Vorbuk's life. It was not the kind of choice that could be taken lightly because Vorbuk would have to be willing to live and die for the person. But Daryl was not certain Vorbuk could ignore the risks of more eyes on him as they kept going forward. These were all worries Daryl held within himself as he did not want to pressure the beast.

They could not stay much longer or Daryl knew they would end up getting caught for certain. Nudging Vorbuk awake he could see how exhausted he was from listening to him the past hours.

"We should head back to sleep. Get up before we get caught here." Daryl spoke lightly as he watched the beast stand up and stretch.
