When Harriet had called Maddie yesterday and asked her to stop by the flower shop, she'd almost said no. She'd broken things off with Parker, had been yelled at and ordered to leave the house of a couple whose daughter she'd tried to help, and she wanted to crawl under a rock to die.

How quickly things had changed. Just a day before, she'd woken up in Parker's arms, secure in the knowledge they could possibly have a future. Then, bam. Bye-bye joy. Karma had the last word again.

Much as it killed her and she missed him, she'd done the right thing. He was the town hero and everybody loved him. Her included. He deserved nothing but happiness and a woman who wouldn't put a hitch in his career. When she'd walked away from him, she'd made the decision to stay in the Ridge one more year, pay off the last of the victims, then find another town where she could start fresh.
