Building a Universe

I sat down at my desk with a blank document open on my laptop. I was trying to get started on the script for the Superman movie. Since the merger was set to happen and the rights to DC characters would soon be in my grasp, I decided to get started on the first movie of what would become the DCU.

I wanted the first Superman movie to be grounded, steering clear of the gritty, CGI-filled Superman movies I had known from my life before. Man of Steel was good, but it didn't capture the essence of Superman that I knew and loved.

I had a vague idea in my head about the plot of the movie. It would focus on Clark Kent, first working as an investigative journalist with Lois Lane. The plot would unfold gradually, showing how events force Clark to embrace his destiny and become Superman. Maybe Lex would be the villain, or maybe someone else.

I did not want to start off with a bang. I wanted this movie to be like the first *Captain America* movie in the MCU—light-hearted at times with some serious action. I wanted Superman to be the character he is most often portrayed as in the comics: a kind, genuine person who simply wanted to help others and befriend them. This contrasted with the cynical takes on the character I had seen in the movies that came out from my time.

I knew the movie wouldn't make everyone happy. There would always be complaints, but I was determined to stay true to my vision.

This script would be something I would be writing entirely on my own, unlike my previous projects where I added some of my ideas to existing stories like *Percy Jackson* while sticking to the same storyline. This was my chance to create something new and different.

Clark chuckles, returning to his work. As he types, his thoughts drift to the events that have led him here. The sense of responsibility he feels, the desire to use his abilities for good.

I paused, reading over what I had written. I wanted to show the humanity in Clark, the small moments that define him before he dons the cape and becomes Superman. This was the Superman I believed in, the one who inspired hope and kindness.
