A servant's duty

Outside the house, Arsenal gazed at the dark sky with an emotionless expression.

"As the rumored devil, I didn't expect you to just leave like that," Muna spoke after a while.

"What should I have done?" He asked her. "Kill them? Destroy the whole place?" He asked and scoffed. "They are just humans, they aren't worth even the tiniest bit of my strength."

"Hmmm," Muna sighed. She had at least expected him to retaliate after being humiliated by humans because she believed that the devil was prideful. She didn't expect him to think the way he did.

'Perhaps it's because he was once a human like them,' she thought to herself.

"Being a human doesn't change any fact. I just don't want to waste my time on those empty shells. Besides, sooner or later, they will come to me for help," he said and began to laugh.

After laughing, he sighed. "The future is indeed certain," he mumbled, staring into the space.

"Where do we go from here?" Muna asked him.

"We are leaving this town to another place entirely. Grab my hand and let's go," he replied and Muna did as told. She held him, and together, they turned into smoke and vanished from that spot.

-------

Muna opened her eyes and saw herself in a different place. The town looked more livelier than the other one and it was beautiful even though it was still night.

'I wonder what it would look like during the day,' she thought.

"Let us go over to that place," Arsenal said to her while pointing at the building opposite them.

"Are you sure about that?" She asked him.

Arsenal didn't reply and headed toward the building. When he got there, the two huge guards standing there stopped him.

"Who are you, kid?" They asked him.

"I... want... to...spend... the... night... here..." He replied. As he spoke, he looked at the men in the eyes and his own eyes suddenly glowed, likewise the guards... Their eyes also glowed.

"We understand!" They replied together and made way for him to pass.

"You placed them under a spell," Muna said as she followed him inside the building.

"Yes," he replied. "It's a pity that you are not able to do the same thing but don't worry, as my servant, I am willing to teach you some dark spells," he added.

"I don't need your evil powers!" She replied to him and in response, he chuckled.

Inside the inn, Arsenal didn't care to know if there were people inside, he silently walked to the counter and called the owner's attention to him.

"A kid?" The young woman asked in surprise. Arsenal was still a sixteen-year-old kid even though he had awakened the ancient being so, it was only natural for anyone who saw him to call him a kid.

"I need a room, I'll be staying here for a couple of days," he said to the lady who was still surprised.

"Look around you, there is no child here, my dear," the lady said to him.

"I am not a kid," Arsenal responded but the lady simply brushed off his words with a light laugh.

"My child, it is not right for you to be in a place like this. I suggest you take your sister and leave this place. Go back home right now," she said to him.

Arsenal had initially wanted to let the woman help them willingly but after all the talks, he was certain that she was not going to obey him.

"I don't have a home," he replied and for a moment, the lady somewhat felt pity for him because even the look on his face at that particular moment showed that he wasn't lying.

"Fine, fine, I can give you a room but you must leave after two days," she said to him.

Two days was too short for him to prepare what he needed but he didn't want to ask for more.

"Agreed," he replied.

"Follow me," she said to them and led them through a passageway to a place lined up with rooms. "Here, you can use this one," she said to them, pointing at a door.

Arsenal walked to the door and opened it, after that, he went inside.

"Not even a thank you?" The lady asked him.

"Thank you, Mam," Muna said to her and also went into the room.

"Hmmph!" The lady sighed and left to go back to her work.

"So what do you plan to do while we are here? I mean, we have to find a place to stay permanently," Muna asked him.

"I haven't come up with anything yet but as for now, you must do your work as a servant," he replied.

"Wh-what do you mean?" She asked him with a stammer.

"I'll be right back," he replied and went into the bathroom. Minutes later, he returned with his lower body covered only in a piece of towel.

She fixed her eyes on him, her eyes wide as anything, and she didn't take them off until he spoke.

"Go and take your bath, I will be here waiting for you."

"What do you want me to do?" She asked him angrily, she was not willing to do what he told her to.

"You should learn to submit to me in all things or you'll only be seeking your death by disrespecting me," he said to her and walked over to the bed to sit down.

Muna saw that he was being serious this time so she quietly left to take her bath.

After she left, Arsenal sighed and looked out of the window.

"I have the devil's immortal essence, but my body is already at its limit. At this rate, I can not afford to act rashly or my rebirth will become useless. The only way to improve is to cultivate and advance my body," he said to himself.

While he was still thinking, Muna walked out of the bathroom with her hair dripping with water.

"I am done," she said and he raised his head to look at her. Seeing her naked, his gaze softened a bit, and he stared at her for a while, making her uncomfortable. "I said I am done, what do you want me to do next?" She asked him.

He shook his head, pulled out the blanket, and threw it at her. "Cover yourself," he said, much to her surprise.

"I-I should co-cover myself?" She asked him with a stammer.

"You need to recite the mind-cleansing spell you've been taught," he replied.

She felt embarrassed and she immediately covered herself up with the blanket.

'What was I even thinking?' She thought and gave herself an imaginary slap on the face.

"The thing I want you to do is simple..."
