Asked For Number

Maya's eyes stared at today's trending news column with a complicated look. She never knew that the news of her marriage with Evan would be famous in various circles. Many people have started commenting not long after the news was released. Each of them began to express their curiosity. Because Evan, seems to have been the favorite idol of many women in the past.

Maya was originally about to skip the news by pressing the back button. When one of the comments, suddenly caught her attention.

[Wedding? I can only hope that they both love each other and aren't together just because they have a purpose at this point.]

Maya was pensive as she heard that brief comment. It's true, they married only for their own purposes. But personally, Maya has considered Evan as her friend since the man was willing to take good care of her even though Maya was just a stranger before this. Outside of his quiet side which is a bit annoying because Maya sometimes doesn't know what the guy really wants, Maya knows that Evan is actually a nice guy. Maya had met many kinds of people before. And it's true what Kevin said, Evan is just too difficult to express what he feels to other people so far.

Evan was actually a very lonely man. Maya knows how hard it must be to stay alive when she is the only survivor of her family. Maya knows her torment. And she hopes that Evan can become a better person in the future.

Perhaps her feelings couldn't be described as feelings of love. But when it comes to her feelings about Evan, Maya likes him enough that she doesn't want the man to suffer anymore.

Even though Evan might look for another partner in the future, Maya also hopes that she can make him happy in a sincere way. Maya and Evan may not be together because they love each other. But Maya at least wanted him to be happy with her even though they were only together for a while.

"What are you looking at?"

Maya looked up again when she saw Evan was in front of her in her usual neat clothes. Even on holidays, Maya now knows that Evan has a habit of wearing a long-sleeved shirt and black pants like the man was going to work as usual. The man looked at Maya strangely, when he found Maya's face a little gloomy today.

Worried, Evan immediately added his question. "Are you worried because today you are going to meet them?" the man asked straight to the point. What Evan's meant were Finola's original family who had tried to contact Maya many times over these past week. At least not having a previous phone might come in handy in times like these. Max can only ask someone to come and force to bring Maya back. Which, of course, was always denied by Evan himself.

After Evan saw for himself what the family had done to her future wife, the man didn't want to give face to his future in-laws at all when he didn't even let Finola's family or their workers through the gates of his house. They could only make noise outside the house, or outside the office where Evan worked for now.

Because their actions that annoy Evan had reached Maya's ears, the girl intended to return to the family's house to settle her business with Finola's family today. However, contrary to Evan's expectations, returning to that place could not make Maya feel worried at all. Maya is used to dealing with an assassin far more dangerous than Finola's family in the past. To Maya, they were nothing more than petty bullies that she could take out at any moment. She was just waiting for the right time this whole time, because there were still small questions that had stuck in Maya's mind ever since she received Finola's memory of her engagement with Evan.

Although the Finola family couldn't be called an ordinary family, it was too much to call them a family on the same level as a conglomerate family like Evan. Trying to marry off his illegitimate child to the main heir of the family would normally be seen as ridicule to Evan. But Finola's father in fact managed to match Finola with Evan, while Evan himself did not reject this matchmaking even though he always could.

Relating to Evan insisting that she should pretend to be married to him for now, Maya suspects that Finola's arranged marriage with Evan being forced to marry is actually connected by a thread that is tied. Someone might be playing with them behind the scenes. Someone who had other intentions, which a simple man like Max couldn't possibly think of.

Originally, Maya had planned to hold on to the weapons she had until that person finally came out and took care of this mess herself. But Maya couldn't allow Evan to be constantly bullied by people from the Finola family. Maya decided that she could find out about the truth of her engagement to Evan on another day.

"No." Maya immediately said. "I never had any kind of emotional attachment to them. Breaking this relationship would be nothing more than a simple administrative transfer."

It must be said that Maya's words were not wrong at all. Because s he could only recall Finola's past memories like a movie without being able to feel her emotions clearly, the original body's past had nothing to do with her. Maya also felt that she had no obligation, to scapegoat Evan for the glory of the strangers.

Evan looked away from Maya as she muttered under her breath. "You can call me if there's a problem," he warned. Maya smiled broadly after hearing Evan's words. The man was probably just worried about her right now. His face did not show a change in expression or sweet words that could be used to comfort Maya. But Evan's brief words, punctuated by a timid tone, were enough to comfort Maya for now.

"Then this."

Maya spoke as she handed her phone to Evan who looked confused. "Let me keep your number. I've had the numbers of Kevin, Uncle Chef, and the aunt who has taken care of the house so far. But I haven't had yours yet."

Even though from the time Maya bought the new cell phone, the girl had been going around asking for the numbers of people she knew, never once Maya had the chance to ask for Evan's number directly.

When she was asking for Kevin's number, the man had actually offered to help her added Evan's number into Maya's cell phone. But Maya refused with an excuse, it would be more polite if she asked Evan directly. Exchanging phone numbers is only done between friends. Maya would rather ask Evan's number directly from the person, rather than secretly asking it from somebody else.

Now that Evan himself took the initiative to bring up this topic, Maya didn't waste her time as she handed over her own cell phone. Maya waited patiently as Evan entered his own number. But her smile gradually faded away, as Evan stared at his phone for a long time without starting to type the number Maya asked for.

"Is there something wrong?"

Maya asked confusedly as the girl had the feeling that Evan wasn't too happy after the man started holding her phone. Behind his expression that didn't change much, Maya could see that Evan was actually frowning a little while his eyebrows moved slightly from their usual position. But that expression soon disappeared again after Maya asked Evan. The man shook his head slowly, before quickly typing his number into Maya's cell phone.

"It's nothing," Evan replied. Maya received her phone again with a confused feeling. But after seeing Evan actually add his number on his own cell phone, Maya immediately turned serious as she tried to remember what people had taught her about how to use the smartphone she currently has.
