autumn

Autumn is fast approaching. The air is becoming colder, the leaves are starting to gray and fall off browning trees. Dry leaves covering the streets like a blanket being draped over an object. There is still a lingering warmth to it but it's a constant reminder of the cold that is yet to come.

To children, autumn is the perfect season to play outside. To run around and hear the satisfying noises of dry leaves crunching under your feet. To adults, autumn is a pain. With dry leaves and branches scattered everywhere, only waiting to be swept away and picked up from the road.

But to Jaemin, autumn is just as beautiful as all the other seasons are.

It is the season after a warm summer and before a spine-chilling winter.

Autumn is a season of life and death.

Before the leaves fall of off the trees, they turn into dazzling colours of reds, oranges, and yellows.

Something that shows Jaemin that something can remain beautiful and colourful even when it no longer lives.

The sound of a flock of birds chirping as they flap their wings in the sky up high, in search of shelter to keep themselves warm. The rustling noises the trees produce as leaves dance their way to the ground, while the tree itself sways to a certain rhythm played by the wind. Flowers buds that are yet to bloom, of bees buzzing and butterflies flying, nature is beautiful.

He slumps back down, causing his bed to sink because of his weight. Jaemin released a sigh, the thought of it continued to play inside his head on repeat. Like a music box continually being cranked to produce and play its melody. It is such a pleasing thought to have.

He wonders why people never seemed to appreciate the good of things in their surroundings, for there is so much for them to admire and relish in. Everyone seems to be too busy to even bother to take notice of the good of things. Everyone lives in a pattern that Jaemin assumes to never have the appreciation of nature as part of it.

He would do anything he could possibly do, just to be given the chance to set foot outside again. It's not like they don't allow him to. Rather, his parents prohibited him from doing so.

They made up his mind into thinking that setting foot in the outside world will cause him danger, and that the outside world will put him at risk.

Jaemin thinks it as a ridiculous thing to say. How could something be so breathtakingly beautiful be horrifying and dangerous? He just doesn't get it.

He plays with the flower he picked out from the bunch, bringing it close to his face as he sniffs the pleasing aroma it diffuses.

Jaemin knows he should be satisfied, but he's a human, too.

Sometimes he can't help but want for more.
