“Are you alright?” Luke asked lowly as the girls filtered out, and Mrs. S. retreated to her office at the front of the studio with the stereo.

Shane huffed a sigh. “Yeah,” he mumbled.

“Uh-huh,” Luke said, and removed the phone. “And what about now?”

Shane rolled his eyes; a fond smile flickered across Luke’s pale face before it faded. “I’m supposed to tell Dad about medical school today,” Shane admitted, and Luke raised his eyebrows.

“You have it all booked in, after dinner but before dessert?”

“Shut up,” Shane grumbled. Luke chuckled and unfolded, spreading out on the studio bleachers, turning on his side towards Shane and dropping one of those delicate hands to Shane’s collarbone.

“You’ll be fine,” Luke murmured. “And he’ll be proud of you, you know. I mean, who wouldn’t be? My dad’s still gutted I’m not going to go to accountancy school.”
