My fingers hungrily traced the contours of Alex's back, my desire urging me to pull him closer, to merge our bodies and souls. But in an instant, his sharp intake of breath caused my eyes to flutter open.

"Are you okay?" I asked, concern etched in my voice as I noticed the way Alex flinched when I inadvertently brushed against his wounded side. "Oh, god, I'm so sorry."
