Move 6: A Lot of Things To Do

(A/N: Sorry for not updating. I was quite busy (until now) these past few weeks doing some school-related stuff. I am still alive, and I would not drop this novel. Here's a short update. Sorry and thank you for your understanding.)

***

While Oli discovered some new information about the new world–Chronos, he also learned something about the ring–portal.

First, all electrical devices and appliances such as cell phones, laptops, digital cameras, etc. were all unusable and not working. Oli tried to take his cellphone, he brought it, but it didn't work. For now.

But the battery-powered tools were all working.

Second, if Oli wanted to open the portal, he would just think the word 'opened' and the portal would open. He also could alter how large and the shape of the portal. So, bringing many large materials on Chronos was not a problem for Oli.

***

Before Oli went on his first journey on Chronos, he had a lot of things to sort out before Oli went to the Baijan Kingdom.

On Earth. Midnight.

Oli wears his gray hoodie and goes outside. Oli's destination was the vacant lot three houses away from his run-down apartment. At the vacant lot, place all the construction materials he ordered a few days ago.

When Oli arrived at the vacant lot, he looked at his surroundings to check if there were people around him. After he confirmed that there was none, he stood in front of the materials and looked at them.

The materials were hollow blocks, steel bars, cement, sands, and gravel. There were also some plywoods and lumbers. Oli was planning to rebuild the walls around the village of Leefside.

When Oli first came on Chronos, he witnessed the cruelness of that world.

And based on Michael's explanation and experience, the soldiers from Credia Empire would attack and pillage Leefside again after a month or so.

Michael was the only one who could fight among the villagers. And the population of Leefside at this moment was seventy people. Twenty were children, thirty women, and twenty men.

Leefside village was a farming village. So, all the men living at Leefside were all farmers. And training them would take time, effort, and a lot of resources which they currently lack at this moment.

So, the only thing that could help all of them was to rebuild the destroyed wall in the village. Wooden walls could easily break down, like the previous wall of Leefside. When the soldiers from Credia Empire attacked again, it would buy time so that all the villagers could run and hide in the forest. For the time being, Oli planned to build a wooden wall.

A wall reinforced with steel and concrete was a thing of the future. It would require a lot of manpower to build one.

Oli opened the portal on the top of the materials. The portal appeared oval so that all the materials could fit. The portal slowly descended and engulfed all the materials until it disappeared without a trace. Then Oli went next.

After Oli came to Chronos, he looked around and saw the organized materials at the corner of the clearing. The time on Earth and Chronos was the same. So, it's still midnight on Chronos. The villagers were in the middle of their sleep.

While looking at the construction material, Oli knew that when he started to do his plans, this amount of materials would be insufficient. He needed a source that he could get any time he wanted. Not in an order type manner.

After Oli checked the materials, he once again opened the portal and went back to his room. He had other things to do.

He immediately opened his old laptop and resumed reading what he found online. It was all about farming. It was about the different types of field systems. The two, three, and four field systems. research

According to what Elder Zion describes, the farmers on Leefside were using the two-field system.

And based on what Oli had read, the two-field system was an agricultural technique in which the farmland was divided into two separate fields. One field was planted with wheat, barley, and rye, while the other fields were left to lie fallow until the next planting season to recover the farm land's fertility.

Also, harvested crops on two field systems were low, and because of this, livestock couldn't be bred all year round.

Next is the three-field system. Unlike the two-field system, which only consists of two fields, the three-field system has three fields.

The three-field system was much better than the two-field system because it used the three fields for farming.

The first field was planted with wheat, barley, and rye.

The second field was planted with different crops like peas, beans, oats, and legumes.

The third field was left fallow.

Though the number of harvest crops was doubled, livestock couldn't be bred all year round.

"This system was much better than the previous. Because two fields were used for farming, the amount of harvested crops doubled. The problem is the livestock."

Oli mumbled after he finished reading.

"But based on what is written here, this is the best to use… the four-field system."

Four field system, on the other hand, uses four fields for farming.

Those four fields were planted with wheat, clover, barley, and turnips. It also includes the fodder crops or grazing crops so livestock could be bred all year round.

The crops harvested with the use of this system were four times higher than the two previous field systems.

"Three is better than two, but four is better than three and two."

Oli said as he finished reading the different field systems.

After that, Oli opened the app One tube as he searched for some videos about the four-field system and saved them so he could watch them later.

Oli was not a farmer nor an expert when it came to agriculture. But based on the explanation he read and the videos he would be going to watch later, he would get the idea, and with that, he would explain it to Elder Zion along with the other farmers about the four-field system.

Oli was sure that they would understand the explanation because the four field systems were just the modified and improved versions of the two field systems that they used.

Could Oli implement such a plan?

He doesn't know.

But he was going to do all he could just to make it so.

Next is the livestock.

Livestock consist of sheep, poultry, cow, cattle, goat, and pig.

And according to what Michael said, they could get the seeds, livestock, and everything in the Baijan Kingdom.

The only problem is the villagers from Leefside had no money. So basically, Oli had no capital to buy such things.

"The monetary used on Chronos were bronze, silver, and platinum. Bronze was the lowest, while platinum was the highest. And if I were to compare it in our money, bronze is 100 Pesos, silver is 500 Pesos, and platinum is 1000 Pesos."

(A/N: For international, it's like this. Bronze is 20 USD, silver is 50 USD, and platinum is 100 USD. Oli compared the monetary value of Chronos to his local currency, which is the Peso.)

"Bronze, silver, and platinum had a sound of low value, but in reality, it's not. Sighed…"

Oli mumbled as he took his wallet and looked at the few banknotes on it.

"This is a gamble, and I hope it pays off."

Then Oli shifted his attention to the bags of peppers, salt, and garlic. And on its side was a box of glass wine.

Oli took a deep breath and looked at the time. It's already past 2:00 AM. He only had a few more hours to sleep because he needed to go back to Chronos as early as possible.

Oli turned off his laptop and readied to sleep. He would have a lot of things to do after he woke up.

***

It was 7:00 AM when Oli arrived at Leefside.

As he walked through the village that now was filled with tents, he immediately saw the adults preparing what they needed to do.

The women were preparing to cook while the men were preparing to clean up the remaining burned-down houses.

When the villagers saw him, they immediately bowed their heads to pay respect to Oli.

This was the daily scenario every time they saw Oli, and it was quite awkward at first, but Oli began to get accustomed to it.

"It was the proper way to greet the Baron."

That was what Michael said.

Oli saw that the women were preparing some deer stew for breakfast, and he casually handed the salt and pepper he held in his right hand.

Spices become an ordinary thing to the villagers because Oli introduces the spice to them, and he always brings food for lunch.

"Good morning, My Lord."

Michael greeted Oli.

"Oh? Good morning Michael. Could you please call the men after breakfast? I have something to say to them." Oli said.

"I'll do that," Michael replied.

After breakfast, it was the moment when the first agricultural revolution on Chronos would emerge.
