Chapter 30

Lysander smiled. "It's on the house."

Caleb was surprised, but only a little. After that, he expressed his thanks and eyed the crepes he ordered like a wolf.

He then began to eat his lavish dessert.

After some time, he noticed that Lysander still hasn't left. So he looked up and glancesd at him with a confused look.

"Haha, nothing. I just wanna know why you kept coming here in this humble café of mine."

"Usually, the regulars we serve are mostly the elderly." Lysander voiced his thoughts as he looked at Caleb right in the eye, as if wanting to know what was inside the kid's mind.

Lysander was on high alert whenever Caleb was around his 'café'. Morover, Caleb started to eat at his cafe for a while now, so he began to feel vigilant, suspecting if his identity was found out.

As a criminal who was disguising himself as a average person making a living with his store, he had information regarding all the people residing in Lumiose who held power and wealth.

Especially to the selected few whom has some frequent dealings with the league, for example: Caleb's grandfather, Cesar Laurent.

According to his Intel, Cesar Laurent has just came back doing business with the pokemon league together with an individual who was worth knowing his every single movement, Professor Sycamore.

What they did;nor what they were planning was not known by Lysander.

He naturally felt alarmed when Caleb visited his shop to 'eat'.

He was clueless to what Caleb's intention was, so he guarded himself as the gears in his head spun. Trying to guess what Caleb was up to.

His best conclusion was that Caleb was ordered by his grandfather to probe this place.

What he really doesn't know, was that Caleb just enjoyed the desserts he made in his cafe.

"Hmm? Your dessert you make here are unbelievably delicious. I have a sweeth tooth, you see."

"Besides, you may not know this. But, I'm trying to enjoy your food as much as I can before our school activity begins just around a week from now. It would be a pity not to, since I'd be busy training in preparation for that day tomorrow onwards." Caleb continued eating his crepes in small bite as he conversed with the boss. "Would you like to sit?"

"You're still a student? Why do you have a pokeball then? Students in any academia aren't allowed to possess one according to the law established by the league."

Lysander felt skeptical hearing his answer. The boy doesn't look like a student at all. Seeing how mature his features were and how tall and built his physic looked, he would be mistaken to be a trainer who had started his journey.

Besides, his necklace held a pokeball. Lysander knew it wasn't just an ornament as he knew what the real thing was compared to a replica. However, he had a guess, but he wanted to hear it from Caleb.

"Hehe, my grandfather has enough authority bestowed upon him by the league. Which made me eligible to contain my starter pokemon in a pokeball."

"And yes, I'm still a student." Caleb smiled, this wasn't the first time his age was doubted by a stranger. He got used to it. He then showed him a card which got his picture on it. "Here's my ID."

As if he thought of something, Caleb narrowed his eyes at Lysander. "What's with all the interogation, boss? Do you not like it when I dine or visit your shop?"

Honestly, Caleb already knew who Lysander was. He knew him because he watched pokemon X&Y so many times that he knew why Lysander was being like this. He just wanted to keep his act.

Besides, he truly loved the desserts made here. Hence, why he frequently visited the store, personally seeing one of the villain featured on pokemon was just one of the reasons. Moreover, as time went by and nothing peculiar was happening to Lysander and his shop, he lost interest and focuses on the appetizing desserts on the menu.

"I'm just asking some random questions. Like I said most of the costumers my humble café serviced are the elderly. Seeing such a young, 'energetic' youth such as yourself is rare." Lysander still kept his calm facade, while emphasizing a word as he watched as how Caleb wolfed down on the crepe he made.

He began to doubt his interpretation of Caleb, by the way he ate his food and the look of joy on his face he seemed to genuinely just loved to eat here.

Anyways, seeing Caleb made Lysander realize just how different every individual views the beauty of what the world has to offer.

Lysander slowly stood up as he got nothing left to say. But then, he blinked and said to Caleb. "Maybe your future lies on the eternal beauty of desserts. If one day you wanted to become a pokemon pastry chef, the doors in my shop is open. I can teach you a thing or two on how I operated and make a much better crepe than anyone else's does."

This made Caleb pause. But only for a moment before he regained his composure, he smiled and replied. "I'll remember your words. If I do, for whatever reason decided to go on that path, I may reconsider then."

Lysander was startled by his answer. Not knowing if he got the true meaning contained in his words or not. He deeply looked at Caleb's eyes, who looked back at him.

Then he resumed his kind smile. "Enjoy your food, Caleb."

Caleb furrowed his brows, he clearly remembered that he hasn't introduced his name to the guy yet.

Knowing his doubts, Lysander just continued on with his look and turned around to go back to the counter. "If you're wondering how I knew your name, it's because of your ID which you had showed me."

Enlightenment shined on Caleb's face. He glanced at Lysander's back before continuing on eating his dessert.

Unknown to Caleb, Lysander's eyes flashed in mystery.

...

"Mom, dad. I'm home!"

Caleb pushed open the door to the house, he take of his shoes and then properly placed them on the rack at the corner.

"Oh! Welcome home, son." Clint's head poke out from the living room as he welcomed his son who just entered.

"Come here for a second." He beckon to Caleb as he returned to sitting on the couch.

Caleb quickly entered the living room. Seeing that his mother wasn't around he asked. "What's up dad? Where's mom?"

"Still working on something on the business. It seemed that one of our breeding pokemons has some problems so she was called and had to take care of it."

Clint patted the place next to him.

Caleb got the hint and sat beside his father. "What do you want to talk about, dad?"

"Nothing, I'm just curious what your grandfather did to you and your Magby when you are out training with him." Clint clearly knew how his father was very strict and extremely devious of his training regimes.

Caleb smiled bitterly when his father mentioned that, as he remembered the beating from earlier. Although, he wasn't feeling any sort of dejection any longer. But, he still complied and answered his father's question.

"Well, just some spar and things like that. He didn't really train us, per se. If I had to call it, it was venting his frustrations at us."

Remembering the look of his grandfather and the way he shook his head in disappointment. Caleb furrowed, but he quickly hide it.

"He said that tomorrow, he will train me. I don't know what kind of training it was yet though. But, I'm guessing it wouldn't be an enjoyable one." Caleb laughed in self deprecating. Even though he knew training was good for the future, his grandather's regime was just a wholenother level.

And, it wasn't like his self training he planned himself was easy, even Diantha and her Ralts could barely keep up with him and Magby.

"I see..." Clit patted his son's shoulder in sympathy. "Keep it up, although your grandfather may treat you like an experiment in his training regime. Your mom told me about the resources that your grandfather had given her for you. Your grandfather has a good and generous side of him, even though for you to receive those you gotta do things that please him."

"Got it dad." Caleb's eyes couldn't help but brighten in excitement, with the resources his grandfather was giving him. Nurturing Magby's potential further on to blue would be a great boost and help in their endeavor. "I'll remember grandpa's kindness."

"As you should be, son." Clint couldn't help but smile proudly. His son was growing up to a fine young man, much like himself back in the day.
