Sinnoh Region, North Shore of Canalave City.
Dozens of Gyarados, each nearly ten meters long, with fierce appearances and massive bodies, were unleashing Hyper Beams everywhere towards the shore.
Faced with such a terrifying scene, the young man who sat on the cliff by the shore showed no signs of running away nor dodging the incoming attacks.
On the contrary, his face was full of excitement at this very moment.
As the distance between them gradually shortened, the young man could see the ferocious Gyarados more clearly and his excitement grew stronger...
The Gyarados also saw him.
In the next moment, they felt a chill down their spines and, as if terrified about something, the previously angry and raging Gyaradoses stopped in their tracks, then... without any hesitation, they all turned around and fled.
Watching the rapidly retreating figures, the anticipation on Reid's face completely froze, and after a while, it turned into a sigh.
"I originally thought I could get a little action so I took on this task since I was planning to pass by here anyway, but I didn't expect it to end up like this again."
After saying that, he turned to the figure next to him and asked, "Typhlosion, did you accidentally leak your aura and scare them off?"
The Typhlosion, who was quietly lying on the ground with its arms crossed under its head as if dozing off, elegantly and calmly opened its eyes and silently looked at him.
The silence spoke for itself.
"...You're right, you're so lazy, it couldn't have possibly been your fault."
Reid sighed and said, "Ah, every time something interesting happens, I don't even need to lift a finger. Just showing up solves everything. If this keeps up, I feel like I'm going to end up like you."
"Typh?"
Typhlosion softly asked.
Being laid-back isn't a bad thing, right?
"It's not bad, it's just a bit boring."
Reid said helplessly, "Doing nothing every day and still getting a hefty Champion's salary from the League—it just feels a bit wrong to me, especially since I'm so used to the 9-5 work grind."
(T/N: This guy's a work addict...)
Plus... after finally getting the chance to cross into another world, and it being the Pokémon world at that. Just being a Champion and not doing being able to do anything else feels like I'm wasting the opportunity fate has given me.
Fifteen years ago, Reid died in his previous world and found himself transported to an orphanage in the Pokémon world.
Relying on the pokemon knowledge from his previous life and years of relentless effort, even without any special abilities, he became the Champion of the Sinnoh Region at the age of seventeen. Then, the following year, he claimed the title of strongest in the Pokémon World Championship.
As a result, Reid's name is now renowned across the entire world.
Since then, many issues that others or even the League considered troublesome and difficult became mere trivialities in front of Reid, easily solved with just the mention of his name.
Like the security problems in certain parts of Sinnoh... or, for instance, that group of Gyarados that had just fled.
After learning that a group of Magikarp on the north shore of Canalave City had recently undergone a mysterious mass evolution and seemed to be moving toward the city, Reid volunteered to take on the task.
On one hand, the swarm just happened to be on his way, which allowed him to fulfill his duties as the Sinnoh Champion, and on the other hand, he just wanted to stretch his muscles a bit.
After all, it's well known that while Gyarados aren't actually dragon type pokemons, their temperament are extremely violent, similar to that of a dragon type pokemon.
Once enraged, they will stop at nothing to destroy everything in their path.
The League's archives even contain records of a Gyarados singlehandedly wiping out an entire town in a single night, only to vanish afterward.
With such Pokémon, once they discover someone standing in their way, they would surely erupt in a furious battle.
Of course, all of this was just Reid's wishful thinking.
Even the notoriously violent Gyarados had no intention of fighting him, despite the fact that he didn't recall ever beating them before.
"Forget it."
As Reid stood up, he said, "Anyway, the task is done, so we should head over to the professor's—"
Before he could finish speaking, a crisp mechanical voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
[Ding!]
[Host information matched. The Strongest Champion System is loading...]
[Name: Reid]
[Age: 18]
[Occupation: Trainer]
[Pokemon: 0]
Hearing this sound, both familiar and strangely foreign, Reid was momentarily surprised before bursting into laughter.
No doubt about it—he had finally received the standard gift to a transmigrator.
But, the Strongest Champion System? Seriously?
Not only is the name cringe, but I'm already not just the strongest Champion—I'm the strongest in the world! And only now you decide to show up? Isn't it a bit too late? Where are you when I actually needed your help?
And from the looks of it, not only does this thing have no sense of timing, but even the personal information it detected has some obvious mistakes. Reid couldn't help but wonder if this system was some kind of outdated, low-quality version.
[Note. The Strongest Champion is beginning to bind to the Host.]
Hearing the abrupt message, Reid was momentarily stunned.
"Hey, I don't get a choice to accept or decline the system?"
"What makes you think I even need you? I'm already the strongest there is, which defeats the whole purpose of your very existence."
Then... he laughed even louder, a little dumbfounded.
Yes!
That's exactly it!
This is the exact type of system he remembers, they do whatever they want to you without any consent!
He couldn't help but wonder if this useless trash can be sold to a godly being that supplies systems.
Though, the system completely ignored Reid's mocking laughter. Instead, it continued broadcasting its notifications.
[The Strongest Champion System has successfully loaded.]
[This system will assist the host in reaching the pinnacle of the Pokémon world, becoming a Champion even amongst Champions.]
[With this system, you'll be able to take over Silph Co and control the world's economy, embrace Cynthia and Diantha on your left, Lusamine and Erika on your right, living such a dream life won't be just a fantasy.]
[Why hesitate? Claim your newbie gift pack now.]
Listening to this stream of announcements, Reid was truly speechless this time.
So, they had to throw in a harem and becoming the richest person too, huh? Really going for that authentic "classic system" type.
How did I never come to realize how embarrassing these systems are before? It's the kind of crap that would make you want to die from embarrassment if anyone overheard.
Besides, who in their right mind crosses into the Pokémon world with building a harem and becoming the richest person in mind? There's so much more better world choices when it comes to building harem...
That said, as unreliable as this system seems, it's still somewhat useful, despite being VERY late. It could have saved me a lot of trouble in the beginning.
If I'm not mistaken, a lot of Pokémon system stories start off by giving you some kind of super amazing pokeball that can forcefully capture any Pokémon.
I have to admit, I'm pretty curious about that.
And after all... since it's already here...
It's totally not because I'm actually quite fond of the catch em' all, woman edition idea...
But before Reid could choose whether to accept, as if the system was afraid he'd get any more strange ideas, the cold mechanical voice quickly resumed after a brief pause.
[New Trainer Benefits are being distributed...]
The next moment, a few items appeared in front of Reid.
Poké Ball ×5 – A tool for catching Pokémon.
Great Ball ×1 – A tool for catching Pokémon, with a slightly better success rate than a Poké Ball.
Potion ×3 – Restores a small amount of a Pokémon's HP.
1,000 Poké Dollars – Currency used within the Pokémon League.
Listening to the system's prompts and looking at the items in front of him, Reid was momentarily at a loss for words.
He had to admit, these were pretty decent items for a newbie trainer whose about to embark on their journey.
But he wasn't exactly a new trainer!
Reid looked down at his belt, where six Master Balls—purple with an "M" on them, the highest-grade capture devices—were attached.
(T/N: Master Balls in this fic isn't 100% guaranteed to catch all Pokemons, Legendaries are still able run away. At least from what I have read.)
Then, he glanced at the other side, where the latest Full Restore from the League, capable of healing any non-lethal injury and fully restoring a Pokémon's health and status, hung.
And in his jacket pocket was a custom Champion black card, the balance of which was unknown—he only knew the number was extremely large.
The comparison was, frankly, hard to judge.
"I'm not going to blame you for being late, but seriously? Not even one of the overpowered pokeballs that can forcefully catch any Pokémon? Just a bunch of junk?"
The system's mechanical voice quickly responded to his complaint.
[Please mind your words. These are not junk. These are actually amazing benefits for a new trainer, and will help in your journey to the top.]
"You're giving a Champion newbie benefits, and you still have the nerve to call this 'the beginning of my journey to the top'?"
[Please do not aim too high too soon. Though becoming Champion with the system's help is inevitable, humility is a virtue.]
"Aim too high? Why don't you try rechecking my current status?"
[Trainer → Newbie Trainer (corrected)]
"You've got to be kidding me."
[Please mind your words... Not junk... Humility is a virtue...]
"Ugh."
Seeing there was no point in arguing, Reid decided to give up on the conversation.
Yet, the mechanical voice in his ear didn't stop.
[New Trainer benefits have been distributed.]
[New Mission]
[Proceed to the Professor Rowan's Lab and obtain a Starter Pokémon.]
[Note: Obtaining your own Pokémon and beginning your journey as a trainer.]
"???"
Do they not see the huge Typhlosion lying next to me?
Honestly, if Professor Rowan hadn't actually just recently told him to swing by the lab, Reid would have seriously considered the idea of selling and tearing this system apart right then and there.
[Warning!]
[The system has detected negative thoughts directed towards it. Please cease immediately, or the system will initiate the self-destruct program and cut off your chances of becoming the strongest Champion, richest person, and building a harem.]
"Get lost!"
