Chapter 3: Back in School

A week passed by quickly, a major reason being the absurd amount of reading Kevin had to go through. Knowledge was forcefully absorbed into his head by Hillary. However, a good thing is that his plans had moved from the initial planning to execution. Using the vast coding knowledge he inherited, Kevin started a prototype of software that would bring him his first bucket of gold. By using his father's computer, the basic tools needed for development were completed; now what was left was to finish the frontend code since the backend is done. Then he would rent a server to facilitate connectivity, but this was only temporary since he could only do what his financial abilities allowed him.

"Now this should do it for today, maahn!!? Having school sucks, and the old man won't let me drop out." Kevin grumbled in annoyance.

"Yes, you should be in your bed by now, so young man, you better hurry up." Hearing his dad's voice from the living room, Kevin turned off the computer and cleaned up the mess of papers on his desk before leaving.

Hearing the door to Kevin's room shut with a little more aggression, Hillary sighed in defeat.

"For someone so intelligent and mature, he can act very much like a brat. But at least it shows he is still a child inside." Hillary mumbled.

"Tonight, we bring to you an announcement from the Head Office Live in the Indigo Plateau, speaking is the Elite Four Speakman."

"Citizens of the great nation of Kanto, by the grace of the Legends, I stand before you to announce the unfortunate passing of our dear Former Champion, Head of the Zenigame Family, Water Pokémon Expert, and renowned Historian Bryan Zenigame. Thankfully, in his last moments, he had a happy expression as he asked me to send the following message to the nation:

'Often when you think you're at the end of something, you're at the beginning of something else. My death is just as such; I may not be present in the future, but this also creates a highway of development for this great nation. Let the old become nutrients for the new, may Kanto's Light shine everlasting.'

Hearing the recording electrified the air; the huge crowd of journalists shouted in response to the final word. The electrifying words ignited the dying flame in the hearts of Kantonians. Hope lit up in the hearts of the masses, but watching this, Hillary could only shake his head. As a former regional researcher, he knew some things, like the deteriorating relationship between Kanto and Johto. Moreover, Johto still has their champion, and a very terrifying one at that, one from the renowned Wataru Clan. The Wataru clan is widely known as a Dragon Master Clan; they hold the resource-rich area of Blackthorn City and have access to one of the few dragon-rich Pokémon habitats. Historians say that the Wataru clan helped build the dragon den and were tasked by a legendary Dragon Pokémon to guard it. This task came with a reward; members of the Wataru clan have an ability called dragon aura. This ability has many functions, including strengthening the user's body, allowing easier handling of Dragon Pokémon, and extending their lifespan, among others. This added to their resources gave birth to one of the strongest clans worldwide, producing talent after talent. One of such is the current Johto Champion, Ezekiel Wataru.

Ezekiel currently holds a record 20 years in the seat, a statement of his power, and this man was threatening to turn his predatory eyes onto Kanto.

"Forget about it; I already have too much on my plate." Shutting off the television, Hillary turned in for the night.

~ The next day ~

"Kevin, guess what?"

"You finally started growing hair on your balls."

"Huh!!Noooo. I mean yes, last time I counted there were 12…wait, that's not the matter. Guess who convinced their parents to go catch a Pokémon?" A skinny kid, measuring up to 4'5" in height, with black hair and eyes. His name, Abel Kurd.

"Finally, I was thinking you'll get yours next year at graduation."

"HAHAHA!! No way would I allow that, I'm the only friend you've got, and future rival. How would I allow you to have such a huge advantage over me?" Abel loudly proclaimed, leading to a few insults from the class monitor, for him to shut up.

"So, where will you be capturing a Pokémon?"

"Well, my elder brother will be taking me through route 5. Heheeee!!!…Meowth, wait for daddy to come home."

"Why Meowth?" Kevin asked, his eyes, for the first time since the conversation, looking up from his book.

"Why not Meowth? They evolve into a beast of a Persian, plus the innate talent Pay Day." The final words brought drool to Abel's face as fantasies of money filled his brain.

Seeing this affirmed Kevin's choice of friends. Then suddenly an idea popped up in his mind.

"Hey, Abel, you said Markus will be helping?"

"Yup, he is back home for a break before challenging the Vermilion Gym for his third gym battle," Abel said, obviously proud of his brother. Markus was barely 20 and had already successfully obtained two gym badges, a testament to his talent. This meant his chance of reaching ace trainer before 30 was very high.

"Good, then I'm coming." Kevin declared.

"Sure, we're going this weekend; I'll tell you the details later on." He enthusiastically responded, while settling down as the Herbology teacher came in.
